FanSee: A fan that displays the digital temperature

Posted in Office Gadgets by Conner Flynn on April 5th, 2009

FanSee: A fan that displays the digital temperatureThe FanSee is a nice innovation on the standard desk fan. Thanks to LEDs built right into the fan blades, the FanSee gives you the current temperature while the blades are spinning. That’s right! Feel the oppressive heat, turn on the fan, and let it tell you what you already know. That it’s damn hot. That’s why you turned the fan on.

So, it’s a device that states the obvious. The temperature readout on the 9 inch diameter fan blades is large enough so that the whole room can see it. If you absolutely need this in your life, it can be had for $39.99.

Spotlight 12V Rechargeable LED Flashlight Review

Posted in Review by Darrin Olson on March 28th, 2009

Spotlight 12V rechargeable LED flashlightThe tough guys over at Spotlight were nice enough to send us a few samples of their their small rechargeable 12V flashlight to try out for ourselves we have to admit that we were impressed. Now, the Spotlight has but only a couple features and is no new radical cutting-edge technology but we would consider it a gadget nonetheless. Also, its refreshing to see a very simple and useful gadget come across the desk from time to time.

The Spotlight is just like it sounds; it’s a small flashlight measuring a mere 2 inches and weighing in at a svelte 1.8 ounces. What makes this little guy so handy is it’s small size which is by no coincidence the same size as many automotive outlets. The flashlight alone fit in 4 of the 6 different car outlets we tried and emits a glowing red light to let you know it’s charging. For those outlets that don’t quite fit, Spotlight provides a small length adapter and a Super Socket adapter (separately) to allow it to fit just about any vehicle.

Pong-playing LED sheep

Posted in Humor by Conner Flynn on March 18th, 2009

Check this out. A bunch of Sheep herder dudes in the Uk got together and armed with a bunch of LEDs and a camera created some amazing moving art.

“We took to the hills of Wales armed to the teeth with sheep, LEDs and a camera, to create a huge amazing LED display.”

The best part? They create a giant Pong game with the LED wearing sheep. Sure there are a few stray pixels because the dumber ones can’t get it together, but it rocks.

GeoBulb II: LED lighting that lasts for 20 years

GeoBulb II: LED lighting that lasts for 20 yearsThe problem with producing a long-lasting and bright LED Light Bulb is that the components in an LED bulb often fail before the LEDs themselves. Looks like that may change. The GeoBulb II Wedge Base type bulb is designed to fit into all wedge-based fixtures, bringing LED light bulbs up to the brightness of incandescent bulbs and maintaining the quality that make LEDs so good.

The bulb will supposedly last 30,000 hours, using just a fraction of the power of incandescent bulbs, while generating very little heat and isn’t susceptible to vibrations or repeated on/off switching. The bulb uses 7.5-Watts of power while dispensing 60-watts of equivalent light.

The Steam Iron gets an LED facelift

The Steam Iron gets an LED faceliftThe iron is one of the few gadgets that has remained largely the same over time. Even this Steam Iron with LED concept doesn’t change it all that much. It features LED lighting that lets you know the temperature, with red presumably meaning that it’s hot and ready.

There’s also a soft silicone lining to prevent you from burning yourself accidentally, which is of course a big plus for you and the emergency room staff. Sure, it won’t iron your clothes all by itself while you play Xbox, but it’s an improvement. I mean, what else are you going to do to upgrade the old iron?

LED SilverwarePerfect for those romantic candelit dinners, it’s Lightware- the LED lit cutlery. This silverware features a silver head and an engraved crystal body, sure to add to the ambience of any darkly lit dining experience.

They have a small LED powered by a watch battery at the bottom. The electronic part can be removed for washing, because otherwise things would just get gross. Your fork will still stab, but now you will be able to see what you are stabbing. If these don’t impress your date, try the Lego cutlery. At least with those you can join her fork to yours and say something sappy.

I guess LED undies are only limited by your perverse imagination. At Enlighted, you can get LED g-strings, panties, even hot pants. If it’s not freakish enough for you, they will make a custom piece for you, with lights and patterns of your choice. Perfect for acting out Sci-Fi fantasies. Tokyoflash Kisai Keisan LED watch is a beautyThe creative folks over at Tokyoflash just revealed their latest digital watch and it’s pretty sexy if we do say so ourselves. To tell the time on this watch, just add the digits in each of the four vertical lines of numbers. Troll Touch adds touchscreen to Apple’s 24-inch LED displayIt may still be a while, with the MacWorld just concluding, before Apple comes out with its own version a touch version for their display, but there is a solution. Troll Touch has announced a touch panel integration kit that converts the 24-inch LED display into a touchscreen.

It’s powered internally via USB. And the custom touchscreen overlay design doesn’t alter the panel’s form factor in any way hankfully. But adding touch functionality is going to touch you in the wallet. Starting from scratch, you can order a touch-enabled version now for $2,299, but those looking to simply upgrade their own can ship it to California with $1,399.

LED Torch is a tiny transformerWorried about the rise of the robots? Sure we all are. But we never saw it coming from our trusty flashlights. Yes, they will transform and enslave us by being useful in the dark. Which is a brilliant plan. We will never see it coming when the light goes out and they finally attack.

This awesome flashlight can transform into three different forms: humanoid robot, scrambling spider and standing spider. That’s three cool things in one flashlight. Which is two more than your current flashlight does. All this coolness for only $20.
