Dell discontinues Adamo laptop

Posted in Dell by Conner Flynn on February 9th, 2011

Sad news for the Dell Adamo today. After aggressively discounting the Adamo 13 over the holidays and then again in the new year, Dell has given up on its stylish ultraportable. The Adamo’s biggest problem was its price-to-performance ratio, but it did sport some amazing design.

Hopefully Dell has something just as eye-catching coming soon, but if you still want the Adamo, you should still be able to get one for a bargain price at Dell’s refurbished outlet. However, I would hurry.

HIDE laptop design concept

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on January 6th, 2011

We love Apple’s MacBook Pro because of the sleek design, but this HIDE laptop concept design might just do a tad better. This laptop design has slim panels on the side of the display, which cover up the sides of the laptop and the ports, when the lid is closed.

And so it appears to be one solid piece of aluminum when closed. As a bonus, it also protects the peripheral ports from damage. This HIDE laptop concept would be easy to incorporate into today’s laptops and it makes good sense.

ArcadeDock turns your Lenovo laptop into a retro arcade cabinet

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on October 14th, 2010

The ArcadeDock Laptop Dock is an awesome mod. It’s a half-height arcade machine, with retro art, the necessary joystick and large buttons and a secret place for a touchpad-equipped keyboard. Basically it is designed to hold an IdeaPad Y560, and when connected via USB, it functions just like any arcade cabinet.

Pretty awesome. Though it looks pretty uncomfortable to play. Still, it’s worth any back pain you might endure to play a lenovo Ideapad through a Street Fighter 4 emblazoned arcade cabinet.

Posted in Acer by Conner Flynn on September 12th, 2010

We’ve been waiting to see more dual screen laptops like this here Onkyo and this guy here, but it’s been dry lately. Now we hear some news that Acer is testing a rig that might be powerful enough to do the trick.

Some pictures from Tech Review purportedly show a 2.67GHz Intel Core i5 processor (likely a Core i5-580M) with dual fifteen-inch multitouch screens, making other dual screen lappies look dated by comparison. According to the source however, this device is “still slow and buggy,” so we likely have a long wait.
