Check out this collapsible Soft-Refrigerator concept by Electrolux. It proves once again that an accordion design works great. Through the use of a heat-insulating membranes and modular shelving, this fridge can actually be collapsed and optimized for size. Because sometimes you don’t have a lot of food or you need more room in the kitchen.

When you collapse the fridge there’s less space inside that needs to be cooled, thereby reducing your energy use. Plus it looks kinda futuristic. Who wouldn’t want a collapsible fridge? Let’s say you go shopping on Monday. By Friday,you fridge is waist high again.

If you figured your kitchen utensils were safe from a tech upgrade, you were wrong. The IC3 concept would give your cutlery a computerized body able to hold three interchangeable eating tools: fork, spoon and knife.

The fork wont just stab blindly, it will also analyze the composition of the food, reporting details on fat, protein, and sugars. The spoon will measure weight with the knife acting as a thermometer. All of this information will be compiled into a detailed report so that you know exactly what you’re eating. Screw that. Who wants some nanny telling them what’s good for them. These utensils can go fork themselves.

If you do a lot of cooking, you’ve probably thought about getting a laptop or other device just for your kitchen so you can always have recipes on hand. The Demy Digital Recipe Reader is all you need for your recipe needs. It will show you all of your ingredients so you can make light Martha Stewart. The device is small so it won’t take up much room and it has a touchscreen display.

If you’re looking for something new to eat, it features a recipe database as well. The built-in memory will let you store 2,500 recipes. You can transfer them via USB. As you might expect, it’s splash resistant and even has three cooking timers, a substitutions database and a conversion tool. You can pre-order it for $299 and it will be available by the end of the month.

Making its appearance at IFA 2008 in Berlin, the Made for iPod refrigerator is the first of it’s kind. Gorenje might have a winner on it’s hands with this here fancy fridge. Sure, we’ve seen refrigerators with a bunch of multimedia features that allow you to listen to music, watch TV, even surf net, but this is Apple certified. It features a built-in iPod docking station and speakers, so as you might expect, you can play music and video and connect to the internet via a Wi-Fi network.

Apparently by integrating the iPod with iGorenj app, you can control all kinds of Gorenje appliances like washing machines and the oven for instance. The app is not built for iPhone/iPod touch, it’s served from a home server that controls your appliances directly. That way you can use the iPod touch, but also any other web device in your home that uses a Wi-Fi network. Looks like we may have an iKitchen sooner then some of us thought.

It’s a real pain getting up from your computer and walking to the kitchen to get your favorite snack, toast. You would think that cylon toaster you bought would motivate you. If only you had a way to make toast with your computer.

Wait a minute. You’ve got that spare drive bay that you’ve never used. Meet the CrazyPC 5.25 Bay Toaster, a toaster that fits in a standard 5.25-inch drive bay, and even includes software for adjusting the heat and time. Just insert the bread like a doughy CD and wait. Hot fresh toast is served. I’m not sure how it handles the crumbs. If you’ve ever cleaned out your toaster you know that crumbs will collect on the bottom. Only $29.99.

This toaster is different. The cage on top spins so that your buns can get perfectly toasted on all sides. Now, I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking that this would be the perfect spa type accessory for your hamster. That tubby furball could stand to lose a few pounds right? Wrong. It would kill him. It’s for toast, it’s not a Richard Simmons hamster treadmill, though I hear that’s available too.

Now that we have that out of the way, this toaster even has a few heating drawers that will keep slices of toast crisp and warm. Hopefully it’s available in more colors. I’d like to see it in chrome, while I watch my buns battle it out in a steel cage match to the death.

Apparently much of the food poisoning and disease that spread around your kitchen do so because of nasty germs living on your kitchen towels. It makes sense. It’s a nice moist environment for breeding.

Student designer Paul Oxley has come up with something that may stop this phenomenon dead. He didn’t throw in the towel, so to speak. The Aquavac. It’s is a small countertop wet vac, which lets you suck up spills into it’s container rather then wiping them up. You can also use it to dry your hands. Germs will be in the Aquavac, not in your kitchen. Pretty simple and great idea.

The garlic zoom is like a little garlic eating Pac-Man. Instead of dots, he eats garlic. Then instead of eating ghosts he poops garlic shavings, making some tasty treats. It’s the beautiful majesty of nature, eat and excrete. It has a clear plastic body with rotating blades inside that are attached to wheels.

Just put a garlic clove inside and roll the wheels back and forth over another food, maybe some bread. Then just roll it back and forth and nicely chopped garlic will be on your bread. The only thing better then helping you with chopping garlic is having two for awesome kitchen racing.

LG converges the Microwave and the Toaster. The device is not new, but it’s like a UFO sighting, you know they’re out there, but you’re still surprised to see one.

Obviously it hasn’t caught on, which is odd because it’s a great space saver and it frees up an additional power outlet in your kitchen. Maybe it’s tough to clean or something. Anybody out there have one of these? Do you like it?

This toaster tosses convention completely out the window. The Fagor TP-2006 X is a flat toaster and it looks way cooler than traditional ones. It also makes for a dangerous breakfast time. It’s probably not good for those with a house full of kids who like sticking their hands in objects.

Like other toasters, the Fagor TP-2006 X comes with a crumb tray that can be slid out. It’s clearly begging to have a burger on it’s grill as well, though I’m sure they do not recommend it. Looks like it can fit four slices of bread on it’s surface at once. It’s got me rethinking everything. If we can have a flat toaster, surely we can have a George Foreman grill that stands upright.

Banana’s are good for you. Eating a whole banana is no big deal, just throw the peel away and forget it. But what happens when you only want half of a banana? It gets all brown, spotty and nasty real quick, that’s what. Who wants to eat that? It usually ends up in the trash.

Not anymore. The NANA Saver is essentially a cap for your decapitated banana. Just pinch it on and it will now be fresh from the air. It will only set you back $2.98. Sure, you could just eat the whole thing, but that would put the NANA saver out of business.

Invented by a group of Silicon Valley engineers, the Readybot Robot is designed to clean up your kitchen. The goal of the project is to find out how much of an average kitchen the robot can clean. Right now, Readybot can take care of 30-40% of daily chores and the team believes that with more programming, they can get that up to 50% in another year. Eventually it will be at 80%. The prototype is more or less, a white enamel box with wheels, with two human-sized arms and chrome accents.

The robot fits in the same counter space as a dishwasher. After activation, he rolls out, deploys several antenna-type cameras, and raises itself up to human height, then gets to work. No info on availability yet, but very soon we are all going to have these in our home. I guess it’s a bit nice to know that now they can kill you dead, drag you into their dishwasher sized hole and clean up your disemboweled parts.

How much power does one really need to toast a piece of bread? Philips seems to think the answer is a lot - 1200 watts to be exact - and wants to sell you its HD2618 toaster for around $120.
