This puts an end to the rumored prices and launch dates for the 3DS and makes things official. Nintendo just announced a February 26 ship date in Japan for ¥25,000 (about $298). It will hit the US and Europe in March for an unknown amount.

Launch colors are two flavors. Aqua blue or cosmo black. At a press event in Japan, Nintendo demonstrated the ability to take your picture using the 3DS’ front-facing camera and then automatically converting the image into a Mii. If you like, you can then edit it using Mii Studio on the 3DS. Images can then be exported as QR codes in wireless “tag mode” or as a file to the bundled 2GB SD card.

Nintendo 3DS may hit Japan on November 20

Posted in Nintendo 3DS by Conner Flynn on September 13th, 2010

We can thank Japanese accessory creator keysfactory for a slip that may have revealed Nintendo’s plans in regard to the 3DS release date. A designer with the firm posted some Twitter updates (now deleted) that 11 add-ons for the game console would ship on November 20 and, apparently the 3DS itself. Nintendo has implied an end-of-year launch in at least Japan but hasn’t given us a firm date so far.

It’s not confirmed, but the details line up with Nintendo’s recent launch history. The Wii, DSi and DSi XL were all released on a Saturday, and Nintendo often prefers weekend launches.

Walkman temporarily outsells iPod in Japan

Posted in Walkman by Conner Flynn on September 2nd, 2010

They love Walkmans in Japan. So much so that Sony’s Walkman line has temporarily passed the iPod for sales in Japan again, according to researchers at BCN. Players like the S640 helped Sony slide past in August with 47.8 percent of sales where Apple dropped to 44 percent. The Walkman overtook the iPod briefly a year ago, but these new figures mark the first time that Sony managed to hold an overall lead for the month.

The iPod nano 8GB and 16GB were still the top sellers, but it was the variety of Sony players that ultimately overwhelmed their numbers.

Mickey Mouse remote control

Posted in Remotes by Conner Flynn on August 2nd, 2010

Hardcore Disney fans will love this. It’s a remote shaped like Mickey Mouse. I find it very creepy as it has the feet and the ears, with no face at all. It’s as if Mickey has invaded remote controls all over the world and has begun to morph into something new. Something deadly.

Thank god it’s exclusive to Japan. This Mickey Mouse remote control comes with a stand which are shaped like the mouse’s shoes. Other than controlling the TV there’s also a voice button so you can hear 9 popular Mickey Mouse lines.
