Vintage iPod tube amp & charger is retro awesome

Vintage iPod tube amp & charger

Here’s a great design if you dare to be different. The Vintage iPod Tube Amp/Charger has the cool somewhat steampunk/Sci-Fi look of a mad scientists lair. According to the manufacturer, you ca enjoy your playlists with the “warmth and richness only a vintage tube amplifier can provide”. I don’t know about that, but I love the design.

Many musicians believe that the harmonic richness and the pure tone of tube-based circuitry can’t be beat. That’s their thinking with this device. Just plug your iPod into the Vintage Amplifier/Charger, sit back with the included remote, and browse through your playlists. They claim that audio details that have been lost in MP3 files through compression, dramatically re-emerge through the 25 watts RMS per channel, all-tube pre-amp system. It will cost you a hefty $800 to find out if they are right. No doubt some of us don’t mind missing out on the differences we can’t hear anyway, at that price.

MiShare: iPod on iPod sharing

iPod on iPod sharing

This could be a huge pain in the Apple for…well, Apple. The MiShare allows iPods to share information without a computer. Say your friend has pictures, playlists or mp3s on their iPod, that you would like to have on yours, but you don’t want to go through the trouble of getting out the laptop, charger cable, and iPod reverse transfer software.

MiShare makes it easier with direct iPod on iPod action. Just attach both iPods and press miShare’s button to start the transfer. It won’t disable iTunes DRM, but if you have regular MP3s you can now share away. The miShare is battery powered, and can be charged with an included AC adapter.

WiFi iPod From Apple This Year?

Posted in iPod,Wi-Fi by Darrin Olson on April 14th, 2007

WiFi iPodAccording to a recent report from DigiTimes, Apple has plans to launch a WiFi enabled iPod that could be available to ship by Q3 of this year.

The report states that as soon as this month Universal Scientific Industrial (USI) will be shipping the components that will make the WiFi capabilities possible to Foxconn, who will then assemble the new device. Foxconn would then have enough of the devices assembled and ready to go by the 3rd quarter of this year, which would mean that these new WiFi iPods would be ready to go in plenty of time for the holiday rush.

This seems to makes sense for Apple to do in order to stay competitive with the Zune and its WiFi capabilities. There has also been rumors that Sony and Samsung are preparing a WiFi enabled DAP, and Sandisk has already shown offer a similar device. One …

Waterproof iPod ShuffleThat’s right, this is a second generation iPod shuffle that is waterproof! This waterproof Shuffle does not require a case, but has the waterproofing applied on the inside allowing normal use of the device at its original size.

This Shuffle is water resistant for depths up to 10 feet which makes it safe for showering, bathing or swimming as long as you keep it relatively shallow. SwimMan, the originator of the modified waterproof Shuffle, also has waterproof headphones to go along with it for your underwater listening enjoyment.

The iPod Shuffle with applied waterproofing is available now, and $250 gets you the 1GB Shuffle, the waterproofing technology and a set of waterproof headphones along with a limited warranty (Apple’s warranty is most likely void with this).

Apple may change iPod plans from HDD to flash

Posted in Apple,Flash Memory,News by Darrin Olson on February 8th, 2007

Apple may change iPods to use flash memory instead of hard driveA report released from Prudential Equity Group recently indicated that Apple may scrap plans for the next generation hard drive based iPod in favor of using NAND flash memory instead. The change according to the report would result in smaller players and improvements in battery life and durability.

NAND flash memory is a very common source of memory for small thumb drives and memory cards, and is a type of non-volatile memory. Non-volatile memory means that it does not need a continuous power source to retain its data, and NAND flash memory is a durable design that works well for long-term use.

Using the flash memory for iPods would also mean less required power since there are no moving parts, and with the continuing improvements in flash technology the devices can be built smaller without compromising …
