Images of screen for iPod touch 4 surface

Posted in Apple by Shane McGlaun on August 6th, 2010

Yesterday we saw some images of what is supposed to be an iPhone touch 4 mockup and case surface. Today we see some new shots of what it supposed to be the screen for the next iPod touch.

The images come from MacRumors and the site claims to have received the images from an Apple supplier. The screen clearly shows the hole needed for a front facing camera.

Next-generation iPod Touch cases have a Camera Hole?

Posted in iPod Touch by Conner Flynn on August 5th, 2010

Pictures of a so-called protective case for the upcoming iPod touch have surfaced, and if they’re on the level, it would seem to confirm that the next-generation iPod touch will sport a camera, and maybe a built-in flash too, like the iPhone 4.

Take this with a grain of salt. Until Apple confirms it, nothing is certain, but remember that we’ve heard talk of a camera on the iPod touch before. Several times in fact.

Sprint prepping iPod touch case with Wi-Fi hotspot?

Posted in Sprint by Conner Flynn on July 29th, 2010

Check this out. An FCC filing has signaled a unique Sprint plan to capture Apple device users. A ZTE device called the Peel would serve as an iPod touch case but would hold a full 3G-to-Wi-Fi mobile hotspot in its back. This would give the iPod and other nearby devices, an always-on 3G connection without needing a separate MiFi.

The Peel’s capabilities aren’t fully known, but it would obviously have its own battery; there’s no Dock Connector or similar attachment to whatever device it would hold. A mini USB port on one side will let owners charge from a computer or the wall power adapter.

Speck’s Fitted ArtsProjekt available for iPod Touch

Posted in iPod Touch by Conner Flynn on July 15th, 2010

The iPod Touch has been feeling pretty neglected lately with all of the iPhone 4 and iPad news. So Speck has come out with two new Fitted Artsprojekt cases. The cases have been designed by some of the world’s most progressive artists and members of Artsprojekt.

They should add a touch of sophistication to your device. The designs are printed on soft fabric and then fitted onto Speck’s hard-shell cases. The two new cases feature designs by Jared Nickerson, who created the “Mother Nature” theme. The second case has artwork from J. David McKenney.

iPod touch FaceTime to use email addresses?

Posted in iPod Touch by Conner Flynn on July 15th, 2010

We figured that the next iPod touch would get in on Apple’s FaceTime video-calling action, but how will calls be initiated without phone numbers? Well, BGR has the scoop. It will all be based on email addresses. Registering an email address with the touch and FaceTime will let people videocall you using that email address

However when you call an iPhone user it will still involve the phone number. BGR thinks that the email-based system will be extended to the phone eventually too, which I guess makes sense.

iPort adds In-Wall Mounts for iPod Touch, iPad

Posted in iPad accessories by Conner Flynn on July 9th, 2010

With the iPort, you could theoretically have an iPad conveniently in every room. iPort will be launching the Control Mount Series for the iPod touch and iPad, later this month. The product is a wall-mountable frame that holds your igear in place, so you can use it as a touchscreen to control anything from your music to the temperature, depending on your apps.

They are priced at $250 for the CM100 and $499 for the CM2000. Obviously, you could make it yourself for much less.

Next-gen iPod touch to get front-facing camera? September release?

Posted in iPod Touch by Conner Flynn on July 8th, 2010

There’s no way to confirm this one just yet, but Apple might be working on a new iPod touch. Some iPod touch parts have showed up on several Chinese websites, which show a hole on the front of the device that’s likely for a front-facing camera.

There are also some new comments from an exec at UK retailer John Lewis, who said that a major iPod touch refresh is coming in September, and that it will match many of the iPhone 4′s features, including a 5-megapixel camera with HD video recording, a gyroscope and even FaceTime support.

Waterproof Toughcase with built-in GPS for iPhone/iPod Touch

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on June 30th, 2010

You could go for a plain jane iPhone case or you could opt for Magellan’s waterproof Toughcase, priced at $199.99. Two hundred bucks gets you IPX-7 waterproof standards, allowing it to be submerged up to one meter for up to 30 minutes, and there’s also an integrated 1,840mAh battery that can “double the life” of your iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS or second / third-generation iPod touch.

There’s also a high sensitivity SiRFstar III GPS chipset for quality GPS reception, and you can still access the touchscreen. You get all of that, but your device loses any sexiness it ever had and there’s no official support for Apple’s newest iPhone.

The $20 case promises to be ideal for almost any game, letting you use your iPhone or iPod touch in portrait or landscape mode, while making pew pew pew sounds.

iPod touch with 2 megapixel camera leaked

Posted in iPod Touch by Conner Flynn on May 19th, 2010

Tinhte, those folks from Vietnam have yet another Apple leak. The first pics of the iPod touch with a camera. The “DVT-1″ stamp on the back shows that this is an early design verification test unit in product testing. So this is probably not the final design. The device’s serial number identifies a late 2009 third generation iPod touch so it may be a prototypes that never made it to production.

The Foxconn label appears to indicate a 64GB model as well as a 2 megapixel, backside illuminated sensor made by Omnivision. The Apple rumors and leaks just keep coming.

Posted in iPod Accessories by Conner Flynn on February 1st, 2010

A new app for the iPod touch and iPhone called the Touch Mouse app magically transforms your iPhone or iPod touch into a wireless trackpad and keyboard which can be used in conjunction with your computer. It will perform pretty much like a typical mouse, allowing you to point, click, scroll and type from a distance.

Interestingly it can be used in any application no matter the platform, Mac or PC. The Touch Mouse app also works over Wi-Fi, so you can use it anywhere in the house. Now that is a handy app.
