BeamBox MiLi Evolution Mini Power Projector for iPhone, iPod touchPocket projectors are the latest “big” small thing. They’re everywhere. Now Beambox has teamed up with MiLi on this latest version. The MiLi Evolution Mini Power Projector works with your iPhone or iPod touch, docking it into the unit which then acts as projector and charger in one device.

The LCOS projector has 10 lumens of brightness for VGA projection of an image from 3 up to 70 inches. Expect it to cost you about $255 when it’s released around the end of July. This is one of the more interesting mini projectors that we’ve seen recently.

iPhone and iPod touch get inductive chargingIt sure took a long time, but WildCharge, manufacturer of the WildCharger Pad, is launching its WildCharge Skins for the iPhone and iPodTouch.

The pad has to be plugged into a power outlet and your mobile phone equipped with the corresponding skin. The device gets charged simply by placing it on the pad. Like magic. Well, to a dude from the past it would seem like magic. Wildcharge recently launched its Universal Adapter that acts as a Skin and is compatible with over 150 cell phones.

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on May 9th, 2009

iphone3g-sbBeginning this fall, journalism students at the University of Missouri, Columbia will need to add an iPhone or an iPod touch to their already expensive shopping carts. It seems ridiculous, but there is a method to this madness.

Brian Brooks, associate dean of the journalism school, told the Columbia Missourian that the requirement “will not be enforced, however, and there will not be a penalty for students who chose not to buy an iPod touch or iPhone.”

Apple App Store hits a billion downloads

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on April 23rd, 2009

Apple App Store hits a billion downloadsiPod Touch and iPhone owners have been busy over the last nine months. Who would have thought back then that you guys would buy so many apps. Of course it’s hard to resist such gems as the wobbly boob app and iBeer. Obviously it doesn’t take much to get the public’s attention.

Now it’s up to Windows Mobile, Symbian, Android, BlackBerry and the rest to catch up. If we can offer some advice to these other app stores…Games and productivity apps are all good, but put an emphasis on farts, beer and booze. You’ll catch up in no time.

iPod Touch may get a digital camera

Posted in iPod Touch by Conner Flynn on April 6th, 2009

iPod Touch may get a digital cameraI’ve always said that if you want to know what a company is up to, check their job listings. Okay, I’ve never said that. I’m saying it now. Just yesterday I looked around and saw that Canon was hiring people for all sorts of camera related stuff, so I know it works.

Apple has published a job posting that mentions “integration of camera modules across iPhone and iPod”. So it looks like the iPod is going to get a digital camera. Maybe. Pretty cool!

Pip-Boy 3000 iTouch

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on April 6th, 2009

This is the coolest thing we’ve seen all day around here. Someone gutted one of those plastic Pip-Boy 3000 watches and installed an iPod Touch in it. It’s a super clever mod for wandering the wasrelands of the apocalypse.

An actual Pip-Boy 3000 program for the iPod Touch can’t be far behind. Looks like the program he’s showing off is a bunch of stills in the iPod’s photo program. Someone needs to take this idea and make a real honest to god Pip-Boy 3000.

LEDit app for iPhone & iPod Touch

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on March 22nd, 2009

LEDit app for iPhone & iPod Touch LEDit is a led screen ticker emulator app available for both the iPhone and iPod Touch. It seems pretty silly at first, but when you think about it, it’s a pretty useful tool to have. Whether you’re in a noisy place like a nightclub or a silent place like library, you can use it to send others a message instead of yelling or whispering.

Just type in the message and hit the “display message” button and LEDit will scroll the message on the screen. It even vibrates to tell you when message has finished scrolling. You can customize text color, speed and set it to repeat.

Mophie has announced a new version of the Juice Pack for the iPod touch 2G that promises significantly more run time when used. The touch 2G Juice Pack fits onto the iPod like a case and provides up to 72 more hours of playback for audio and up to 7 hours more for video.

iPod touch sets kid’s pants on fire

Posted in iPod Touch by Conner Flynn on March 14th, 2009

iPod touch sets kid's pants on fireI thought it was lies that set your pants on fire. In this case, it’s the iPod Touch. That’s why an Ohio mom is filing a lawsuit against Apple on behalf of her son, the kid whose “iTouch” seemingly exploded in his pocket and proceeded to torch his pants. Ouch.

The kid was treated for second degree burns on his leg, had a hole burnt through his pants and his underwear even melted. And according to the lawsuit, “He continues to suffer from both physical and mental conditions which will cause him to suffer pain, mental distress, emotional distress, and otherwise for the rest of his life.”

Sirius XM developing an iPhone app

Posted in Sirius by Conner Flynn on March 12th, 2009

Liberty Media rescues Sirius XMSirius XM recently just barely avoided bankruptcy and so they are on the hunt for profits once more and hoping to regain interest from consumers. CFO David Frear has confirmed that the company is developing an iPhone and iPod touch app.

This could get interesting. We will have to see how pricing works with this app. Perhaps users can get an iPhone subscription only. Or maybe it will be a part of standard subscriptions. The app should launch in the second quarter of the year.

Hack your VCR for some surprising finds

Posted in Humor by Conner Flynn on March 10th, 2009

I bet you have an old VCR lying around that you’ve been dying to dissect, but you just haven’t gotten to it yet. What are you waiting for? Do you not want another iPod Touch? Wait. Do you have marshmallows?

Or maybe it’s the thought of the little monster inside that has you scared. Just do it already. What’s the worst that could happen?

JAJAH turns your iPod Touch into an iPhone

Posted in iPod Touch by Conner Flynn on February 9th, 2009

JAJAH turns your iPod Touch into an iPhoneThis is a lot like Truphone, which we told you about in December. Leading IP telecommunications company JAJAH has announced a complete overhaul of the iPod Touch. They want to turn the device into a fully functional iPhone.

The new capabilities will enable carriers and non-carriers to launch the service under their own brand and provide customers with the ability to make low-cost phone calls and send SMS text messages to any phone in the world from their iPod Touch. Consumers would only need a Wi-Fi connection, no SIM card or contract. This is big news, what with the iPod Touch being one of the most popular consumer devices in the world.

Drive the Batmobile using your iPhone

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on December 3rd, 2008

Drive the Batmobile using your iPhoneYou may now pilot the Batmobile for the low price of $0.99, thanks to Glu Mobile and your iPhone/iPod Touch. You can mess around and drive through the Batcave, the streets of Gotham City and even rooftops.

It looks like more fun then any Bat-fan should be able to have for a dollar. According to Kotaku there’s only about a minute or so worth of gameplay, but still we’re talking a lousy buck here. It looks nicely put together and well thought though. So it will be an awesome minute.

iPod Touch Nano with removable game controller

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on November 18th, 2008

iPod Touch Nano with removable game controllerThis is what an iPod Touch Nano might look like should Apple release one. It’s designed by Isamu Sanada and the iPod Touch Nano features a 2.8-inch touchscreen display, 3.5mm headphone jack, dual dock connectors, and would come in a variety of colorful cases. Probably the coolest thing about the design is the removable game controller for when the accelerometer and touchscreen aren’t enough. Maybe it’s just me, but this is probably the one feature that the iPod Touch could use in the real world. Pretty sweet design.
