Industrial Double iPod Dock

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on March 18th, 2010

This has got to be one of the ugliest iPod docks we’ve ever seen. Obviously it’s made from some rusty old electrical industrial parts. The product page says it will make a great engagement or wedding present. But that’s only true if you’re a redneck.

But hey, it does support two Apple devices instead of one. It’s compatible with any generation of the iPod or iPhone and even the Nano. Do you want one?

Vintage 8-track transformed into an iPod dock

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on February 21st, 2010

I love Vintage radios and 8-Tracks. Many just have a retro design that can’t be beat. The kind of style that no one is delivering today. The only thing better than a well designed vintage 8-Track player would be one that was modified as an iPod dock.

That’s exactly what we have here. This instructable shows you how to do it. Clearing out an 8-Track’s guts to to hold the contents of an iPod dock isn’t all that hard. The most important thing is that you start off with a great vintage device.

Mini GenevaSound iPod dockThe GenevaSound iPod dock is gargantuan. But now you can get a much smaller version that sports the same style in this GenevaSound System Model S.

What this one lacks in size it makes up for in glossiness, with a lipstick red color. The price is also smaller than the original at $300. Looks like it also comes in black and silver if red is too bright for you.

Speakal iPod dock is a soccer ball

Posted in iPod Accessories by Shane McGlaun on December 10th, 2009

speakalmisoccer-sgSpeakal is known for its line of often strange iPod docks. As far as some of the Speakal designs go, the new miSoccer soccer ball iPod dock is fairly normal. The thing might be a great gift for the soccer fan.

The miSoccer has 23W of power with a 15W subwoofer and a pair of multi-way speakers that split the left over power. The speakers are arranged to give a 360-degree sound field. Controls for the music and track are located on top of the ball and are touch sensitive.

Electrolux vacuum so quiet it packs an iPod dock and speakersElectrolux just launched a commercial vacuum cleaner so quiet that it features an iPod dock and speakers. The “UltraSilencer” is the first such vacuum in existence. The company even went so far as to conduct a lab study to prove that “music assisted vacuuming increases the number of nozzle sweeps, improves the cleaning result and leaves a general feeling of happiness.”

We say it just takes the boring out of vacuuming. Why it’s as if Van Halen or Pink Floyd were cleaning your house right by your side. Awesome concept.

Maxell MXSP-D240 iPod dockToday’s iPod dock of the day is the Maxell MXSP-D240 which comes in black or white colors and looks like a barrel. We can only assume that a Mario accessory is on the way.

This dock comes with a few 53mm driver units and should roll onto the Japanese market sometime this month for €76. Careful you don’t let this one roll off your shelf. Anybody digging this design? Maybe I’m being too harsh.

Regen Reverb: A 3 foot tall Solar-Powered iPod dock

Posted in iPod Accessories by Conner Flynn on November 1st, 2009

Regen Reverb: A 3 foot tall Solar-Powered iPod dockWell, we all loved Regen’s Renu solar-powered iPod dock, but this guy pictured above towers over it. It’s called the Reverb and it’s 3-feet tall, living solely to crank out 60 watts of power using the power of the sun.

This bad boy will play your music for 4.5 hours at full volume or 12 hours at a normal volume. BUT, it takes 20 hours of outdoor sun exposure (or 40 hours indoor) to get a full charge. If you are not the patient type, the Reverb can be powered using a regular electrical socket.

Rotary phone iPod dock

Posted in iPod Accessories by Conner Flynn on October 22nd, 2009

Rotary phone iPod dockThe RotariPhone is an iPod dock and speaker system built into an old rotary phone. It’s alot like this one from last December, but it looks more polished.

Just put your iPod in the cradle where you’d normally hang up the phone. The handset sits on its side and plays your music through where the phone’s speaker and mic used to be. It’s an awesomely retro design, and when not in use looks like a standard phone.
