SolidMicro PadPower iPad Battery Case

Posted in iPad accessories by Conner Flynn on October 18th, 2010

Entering the overcrowded and protective world of iPad cases is a new case from SolidMicro. This one is an iPad battery case called the SolidMicro PadPower.

This iPad battery case features a 6000mAh battery that will extend your iPad’s battery life and of course it also protects your expensive iPad from scratches and bumps and the like. It would suck to have it broken and have to shell out all of that money again, so protect it.

NOOSY HDMI adapter for iPad, iPhone 4 and iPod touch

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on October 18th, 2010

NOOSY China is an unauthorized third-party Apple accessory manufacturer who has come up with a HDMI adapter for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch (4G). It will allow you to output the display of your device to your larger HD display.

However it isn’t clear if the adapter will support audio over HDMI or not. We also aren’t sure if it supports DRM protected content over HDMI, but the site shows images of Star Trek on the iPad and on a connected TV so there ya go.

There’s also a switch on the side of PadDock 10 that allows you to switch between Charge and Sync modes without changing cables. The SMK PadDock 10 also rotates 360 degrees to change the orientation.

iPad to go on sale in Verizon Wireless and AT&T stores October 28

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on October 14th, 2010

Verizon has gone official with its plans to offer the iPad in its brick-and-mortar stores starting on October 28. VZW will be bundling the WiFi-only iPads with its own MiFi 2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot with pricing at $630, $730 and $830 for the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions of the tablet.

There’s just one access plan being offered for now, giving users 1GB of monthly data in exchange for $20 and no contractual commitments. AT&T will match the release date and upfront prices for each model, but its iPads will be the WiFi + 3G versions.

Apple iPad to arrive at Walmart on Oct 15

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on October 12th, 2010

Looks like that leak was correct. Walmart has confirmed that Apple’s iPad will be arriving at its stores on Friday, October 15. All models will be available at the same prices that Apple charges and these will be part of a separate showcase of Apple hardware in-store.

The iPad will also be available online via Walmart, but only for in-store pick up, so you’ll be hitting the store no matter which you choose. The device will initially arrive at hundreds of stores, but an expansion will see some 2,300 stores offer it by mid-November. We take this move by Apple to mean that it is feeling some pressure from the competition.

iPad arriving in Walmart stores starting next week?

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on October 10th, 2010

Way back in May we told you that Walmart would be offering iPads this year and it looks like that is about to happen. A photo of an email sent to Walmart store managers received by MacRumors indicates that the Apple iPad will be rolled out to up to 1000 stores by the end of October, starting next week.

The photos show that Walmart will be offering all six models of the iPad with initial stock limited to just five of each model per store. Never fear, the standard range of iPad accessories will also offered along with AppleCare extended warranties. Sources say that an additional 800 stores will begin carrying the device in November, and each store will have a live demo unit inside a case that will include a looping video demonstration of the iPad in action.

Seven-inch iPad to have Retina Display, 128GB of memory?

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on October 7th, 2010

According to Taiwanese component suppliers contacted by Brian White of Ticonderoga Securities, Apple is not only working on a 7-inch iPad, but one that should have a camera, Retina Display and up to 128GB of storage. Current iPads are limited to 64GB of memory. The analyst was also told that the new device should launch in the first quarter of 2011, and have a “micro or mini” USB port.

The current iPad does support USB peripherals, but only through its 30-pin dock connector, which limits people to one add-on at a time. AppleInsider notes that the port may reflect the European Union’s establishment of micro USB as a standard for mobile charging.

PADACS Toccata iPad Keyboard Case

Posted in iPad accessories by Conner Flynn on October 4th, 2010

We’ve seen a number of iPad cases with integral keyboards, which are handy for easier typing rather than using the iPad’s on screen keyboard. But most have low quality keyboards that you won’t want to use for long typing sessions.

PADACS Toccata Keyboard case is perfect for the heavy duty iPad user, since it sports a built in bluetooth keyboard with plastic keys, similar to more traditional keyboards. The Bluetooth 2.0 keyboard is compatible with a wide range of devices including the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GH (with iOS4) and Bluetooth enabled devices running Windows, Mac or Linux.

Apple to ship more iPads in 2011 than Android tablets combined?

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on September 27th, 2010

Looks like Apple will dominate the tablet market for at least the next year, according to Canaccord Genuity analyst T. Michael Walkley. He estimates that Apple will ship 13.4 million iPads in 2010 and 25.5 million in 2011. The closest to Apple is Samsung’s Galaxy Tab, which will reach 1.5 million by the end of the year and move another six million in 2011.

The combined Android platform fares a bit better, with Dell and Motorola contributing two million and three million tablets of their own next year, but Apple will still have most of the sales. This is due its headstart and its positive UI experience.

Apple iPad heading to Target next month

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on September 26th, 2010

Looks like the news just got more official. Soon you will be able to get an iPad at Target, along with some TP and real pads for your girlfriend.

Target will begin carrying Apple’s iPad on Oct. 3, just like we reported earlier, at its normal retail price starting at $500. Those with Target credit cards will be eligible for a 5-percent discount on the device.

iPad and speakers get mounted on a bike

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on September 24th, 2010

Apple’s iPad can seemingly do anything and go anywhere. Now we have seen the tablet attached to a bike, along with speakers in front. We don’t have many details, but we do know that this guy will want to easily remove both iPad and speakers everytime he parks that bike.

That iPad cradle looks well made, but I still cringe about bumps and accidents killing the device. Anyway, it’s a cool setup. We like it.

Headcase unveils awesome Etch A Sketch iPad Case

Posted in Accessories,Apple by Shane McGlaun on September 21st, 2010

I would bet I owned a dozed Etch A Sketches of varying sizes during my youth. My kids have several of them and still play with them each time we check out at the store since they tend to have little versions near the register. I remember the challenge just to make stairs using the white knobs when I was a kid.

Headcase has announced a very cool new case for the iPad that is called the Etch A Sketch iPad case. The case looks exactly like the Etch A Sketch that we are all used to. The thing has a couple white knobs printed on the corners of the case for looks. Those knobs are only images, not the real deal.

The keyboard runs through Bluetooth and has a built-in lithium battery that’s good for about a week and stands-by for a full 100 days. The keyboard can even be removed and used up to 10 meters away. It’s made of high-quality leather and claims to be waterproof as well.

Apple licenses tech from TV guide maker Rovi

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on September 20th, 2010

Apple never rests and as proof, an SEC filing today revealed that it has struck a “multi-year agreement” with Rovi in what may be a strategy to support the new Apple TV. The terms are secret, but will let Apple license Rovi’s technology over the course of the deal. Neither company has commented yet.

It’s hard to say what Apple would use the tech for. The company makes interactive program guide material that taps into TV channel lineups. It also makes software for set-top boxes to access and share media stored both on the Internet and the local network. So Apple TV is a good guess.
