Apple is ready with a redesigned iMac lineThe Holiday season is upon us, so it makes sense that Apple would be ready to offer its 2009 Mac product line. According to Apple Insider, it could happen as early as this month. We’re talking a new line of iMacs with more stylish enclosures and some other added features not previously available.

Apparently, the new all-in-one, dual-core desktops were finalized earlier in September and have been rolling off the product lines for about two weeks. A thinner chassis and lower prices are expected. We may even see Blu-Ray.

iMac Hamster Cage on EbayThis is as good a use as we’ve ever seen for an old iMac. Basically somebody just gutted the monitor and created a new home for their pet. Somehow he managed to completely gut it without cracking the thing.

If you want your own hamster living in luxury, this original blue iMac cage is available on Ebay. It can be yours for $350. Great way to force your hamster into Apple loyalty.

Apple to sell $899 20-inch aluminum iMac to schools

Apple releases the new iMac’s made of glass and aluminum along with other upgradesThis week Apple quietly announced plans to start selling aluminum 20-inch iMacs to qualified educational institutions for just $899. That means that qualified schools can pre-order an $899 20-inch iMac equipped with a 2.0 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB of memory, 160 GB hard drive, 8x SuperDrive, and NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphic card.

The new configuration is replacing the $899 Apple 17-inch iMac sold to those same institutions since 2006. It allows institutions hit hard by tax revenue declines to continue to factor Macs into their refined budgets.

24 & 28 inch iMac rumors

Posted in iMac by Conner Flynn on January 5th, 2009

24-inch iMac rumorAdd this one to the ever growing pantheon of Apple rumors. PCPerspective has reason to believe that Apple is preparing a 24″ iMac. They say that we will get a set of four new iMac computers announced this week. Two 20″ iMacs with an NVIDIA integrated-GPU chipset based on the MCP79 design (the same used in the most recent MacBook and MacBook Pro notebooks) and one of those will include the mobility GeForce 9600-series discrete GPU as well. This integrated + discrete graphics solution is basically identical the setup the new 15″ MacBook Pro includes.

If you buy into the hype, the 24″ iMacs will have the same integrated chipset but both of these will include discrete graphics solutions. The lower-end 24″ model will use the same mobility 9600 series that the MacBook Pro uses and the higher-end model will use a slightly faster GeForce 9800M solution. That would make the new 24″ iMac a useful gaming machine.

Apple denies any new products ’till next year

Posted in Apple by Darrin Olson on November 3rd, 2008

Apple says no new products until next yearDespite Apple’s Mac Mini being due for an overhaul, Apple has invalidated any recent rumors that they may be launching new products this year. Company spokesman Bill Evans told Macworld that Apple’s line up “…is set” for the holidays.

This is an uncommon move for Apple to stifle the rumor mill but it seems that any hopes of seeing a new iMac or Mac Mini will have to be put aside until next year. Apple has however put out some new iPods lately, as well as some new MacBooks so maybe that is enough for the year? After all, they’ll of course need something big for MacWorld in January.

iView: curved iMac concept
Designed by Nuno Teixeira, this curved iMac concept looks like it belongs on a Star Trek bridge and features a giant curved screen and a second built in LCD screen on the back. Nuno believes that every computer should have two sides and more curves. His “iView” of an Apple’s iMac has a lot of sexiness.

Inspiration came from the 1950’s CINERAMA wrap-around movie theatre screens. Hence the giant curved screen that is more compatible with the natural curvature of the human eye. The second LCD screen on the back would help students and graphic designers.
