Audio records made from glacier ice |
Remember that James Bond movie with the Ice hotel? The entire hotel was sculpted out of Ice and it’s for real too. Everything in the hotel is completely usable. Similarly, artist Katie Paterson taken the idea and made recordings of 3 glaciers (the Langjökull, Snæfellsjökull and Solheimajökull) of Iceland.
She pressed them into three records that were cast and frozen with the melt water from each of the glaciers. When the time came, the records were played on three separate turntables non-stop until they melted. The process took only 2 hours.

Snobootz work like a jacket that you wrap around your tires. They have metal cleats that can dig into ice, and the maker claims that they are easier to put on and remove than chains. The doughnut-shaped casing of laminated fabrics is smoother and lighter than chains, so once fitted, the rubber composite design is safe on your tires.

Do you have an un-natural and un-healthy desire to sled down a hill in the middle of summer? Apparently, you aren’t the only one. Here’s your ticket, right here. The Ice Meister Slicer lets you race down the big hills all year long. It works like an ordinary sled when there’s plenty of snow, but in the summer, you bring the ice to the hill, mounted on the bottom of the sled. Pretty simple solution huh?
The U-Tag ICE Digital Dog Tag is similar to the traditional dog tag. It was originally designed for motorcyclists, making it easy to identify a crash victim and containing emergency information. It can run on snow and ice, sitting on three skis like a snow mobile.
