The 8-Track may be long dead, but it’s not forgotten. Just ask Cheap Trick. It lives on in the hearts and minds of a generation that loved Disco, turntables and Three’s Company.

And while a portable 8-track walkman seems like a ridiculous idea, someone has actually gone and done it. Of course, it isn’t tiny, but it’s probably the most portable 8-track player ever made. At least that we know of.

You know those geniuses that can solve a Rubiks cube in like 20 seconds? This puzzle would drive even them insane. The Petaminx is a handmade puzzle by puzzle maker Jason Smith. It sort of resembles the Rubik’s cube.

It just happens to have twice as many sides and many more pieces to align. In all there are 975 parts and 1,212 stickers. It took mere 75 hours to build and that included the molding process and the placing each of those stickers by hand. Check out a video of this amazing puzzle below.

This Steampunk lamp would be right at home lighting up the desk of a 19th century mad scientist. It’s basic,simple and unlike some Steampunk creations, isn’t overdone and overly thought out. Creator Michael Pusateri made it from an old wooden cigar box, two 60 watt bulbs, a handful of copper wire.

He admits that he got “a little fancy” and painted the ceramic mounts with textured copper paint. And he acknowledges that he could have thrown much more steampunk at the thing, but likes the simplicity. Check out a video below.

Someone loves Scrabble a whole bunch and by creating this awesomely nerdy keyboard, they must have scored themselves a quadruple word score. It’s a wood and brushed aluminum keyboard that features real Scrabble tiles. The points score is slightly edited to show each key’s secondary function.

Everyone knows Scrabble and this is an awesome mod that looks like it could have come straight out of the game box. It’s a USB keyboard and the aluminum accents will very nicely match the Mac that it will be paired with.

Pong is hip again. Or should I say wrist? The Homemade Pong Watch was created by John, a lover of Pong who managed to compress all of the electronics for the watch into a trim 10mm-thick case. The 96×64 OLED display runs continuously and as John points out, there is no need to press a button to see the time. Battery life is 25 hours, so recharging is done every night. This guy got sick and tired of waiting on a real honest to god PSP phone, so he took matters into his own hands. He integrated what looks like a HAIER mobile phone with a touchscreen to the back of the PSP, getting rid of the UMD drive. He gets props for doing it and I don’t want to rain on anybody’s PSP parade, but um, well I have to say it’s a tad fugly isn’t it? Still, at least he’s doing something to birth a PSP phone into the world.
