HTC HD2 can now dual-boot Windows Phone 7 and Android

Posted in HTC by Conner Flynn on January 24th, 2011

Windows Phone 7 and Android have both been ported to the HTC HD2 in the past, but now they are both on the same device. The folks over at xda-developers have figured out a few ways to install both WP7 and Android on the HD2 while using the same SD card.

Thing is, as you might expect, none of the methods are easy, but that just means that if you do this you will be among the select few. If you want to try your hand at it, check it out here.

HTC HD2 to get Android direct boot

Posted in HTC by Conner Flynn on December 30th, 2010

HTC’s HD2 Windows Mobile phone has been a popular device for Android ports and now the Dark Forces Team’s MAGLDR 1.09 might make things easier for Android fans. The program lets Android builds be flashed directly to the NAND ROM, which is where the stock Windows Mobile build normally resides.

Current Android ports require a WinCE-based bootloader to run. MAGLDR should be released to the public in just a few days time and Windows Phone 7 should be able to be ported to the HD2 using this tool as well.

Zune HD2 already on the way?

Seems like just the other day the Zune HD arrived, but already rumors are circulating about a Zune HD2 that “will be similar to an iPod Touch,” and could ship this year. It could be part of the “Windows Phone 7 Series platform” and run Windows Phone 7 apps.

There’s no word on when we might see this theoretical Zune HD successor, but a Zune with the Windows Phone 7 interface might be just the thing Microsoft is looking for to tie it all together. Hopefully we will hear more about this soon.

ASUS introduces O!Play HD2 networked media player with USB 3.0

ASUS has added a third model to their O!Play mediaplayer range, the ASUS O!Play HD2. Sadly we don’t have any information. Just the name, with no specs. However the photo reveals USB, eSATA and various forms of memory card reader.

Assuming that the O!Play HD2 is similar to the two models that have gone before it, we would guess 1080p HD video output via HDMI with networking support, either ethernet or 802.11n like the O!Play Air HDP-R3. Hopefully we will have full specs soon.

HTC HD2 to get battery pack add-on with kickstand

Posted in HTC by Conner Flynn on January 24th, 2010

The HTC HD2 smartphone will be getting a new accessory soon that will double the device’s battery life and allow it to stand up on it’s own in portrait or landscape orientation for when you watch videos. The HD2 Extended Battery will be offered by Clove, a UK electronics retailer.

It’s not a case, which makes it a bit unusual. It’s basically a thicker battery with an integrated flip-out kickstand. It will cost users about $73 when it ships in February.
