UpCart turns shopping carts into rolling trees

UpCart turns shopping carts into rolling treesWe’ve seen a surprising amount of shopping cart inspired design here at the “Brick. Sometimes artists turn them into furniture, other times it’s more about real world grocery store innovation, like the design above. And let’s face it, the shopping cart needs an overhaul.

With the UpCart, shoppers could use their carts like a storage system. Put your heavy items near the bottom, lighter items on top. The design makes a lot of sense. The bins can be easily moved around in any position for easy access. This cart may even help prevent traffic jams on aisle four. Maybe.

Shopping carts with magnifying glasses

Shopping carts with magnifying glassesYou want to eat healthy, but it’s hard. Those nutritional labels are small for a reason. So they are hard to read. You’d rather focus on how delicious those chips are going to taste in an Oreo sandwich. But some of us actually want to know what we are putting in our bodies. Some people are obsessive about it. Whether you are just watching your sodium intake or you believe that too much high fructose corn syrup will give you erectile dysfunction, it could sure be easier to read those labels with a shopping cart like this.

These carts feature a built-in magnifying glass so you can easily read the package as well as have a closer look at the shrinking boxes they are giving us for the same money. The carts can be found at a co-op in Geneva, Switzerland, but I think we here in the US could do with some.

Radio Controlled Granny looks like all kinds of fun
I don’t care who you are, it doesn’t get much funnier then the elderly treating their wheelchair like a hot-rod and just gunning it. Previously, if you wanted to see the geriatric in racing form, you had to play slot car racing grannies.

Thankfully, someone has expanded the premise to include an old woman in a grocery store, with slippery floors and plenty of canned goods to crash into. The handicap ramp should provide some airborn Dukes Of Hazard moments too. It will cost you about $36. Good fun. It will give you something to think about the next time you’re in line behind an old woman with a change purse.

Shop for groceries, play some Atari

Shop for groceries, play some Atari
Clean up on isle six, I just kicked your ass at Missile Command. How cool is this? This Milwaukee, Wisconsin grocery store has an atari section, where you can hang out and play, complete with period TV, wallpaper and furniture. It’s a great way to get the guys to do the shopping, I’ll say that.

The display includes a fully-functional Atari 2600(Newer black version), and a nice assortment of about 50 classic games just waiting to be stolen. Looks like the only detail from my childhood that they missed is having my mom stand there nagging me while I’m trying to play Space Invaders. Otherwise, it’s like being there. Note to the employees: That plant fails to hide the cords.
