Gateway unveils new desktop computers |
The desktop computer was once the most common computer that consumers purchased. Today prices on notebooks and netbooks have came down so much that you can buy a notebook for the same price or even less than your average desktop. Still there are some who prefer a desktop to a notebook and for that group Gateway has unveiled new systems.
Gateway has introduces two new desktop lines including the small form factor SX series and the mini-tower DX series. The SX desktops start at $499.99 and for that price you get some nice hardware. The rig runs an Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 CPU, 4GB of RAM, and a 640GB HDD.

Gateway’s latest Timeline netbook is now available for purchase. The netbook is powered by a 1.2GHz Athlon 64 L110 processor with an integrated ATI Radeon X1270 graphics card, a WXGA resolution display, a 2GB RAM and a 250GB HDD.
Gateway has a full line of notebooks that come in all sizes. The company is also closely related to Acer, which has the most popular netbook on the market with its Aspire One. Last year Gateway launched a pair of new notebook lines called the MC and MD series. The difference was a scant 0.6-inches in screen size with the MC line using a 16-inch LCD and the MD using a 15.4-inch screen.
We’ve been seeing all-in-one PCs more often lately. The latest is this 18.5-incher, the ZX2300 from Gateway, which should be available in Taiwan soon. The system is powered by an AMD Athlon 2650e CPU that runs on Windows XP Home, and supports 1GB RAM and a modest 160GB hard drive. LCD screen resolution is 1366 x 768.
The netbook is one of the only segments in the computer industry that is posting strong growth during the global economic slump. Sales of netbooks have soared posting growth rates of 160% according to some analysts.
New notebooks are being introduced by the dozen this time of year. This year we are seeing some new types of systems hit the market with netbooks being very popular. Gateway is also introducing a notebook with a different size LCD than we are used to seeing.
For certain users the desktop PC is still the way to go. These are people who don’t travel a lot and demand serious performance from their PCs. Two of the most common members of this group of power users not interested in a notebook PC are gamers and digital media enthusiasts.
Gateway has been busy introducing several affordable gaming notebooks over the last year so. Typically, when you think about a gaming notebook, you’re talking about spending thousands of dollars to get the privilege of playing games on a notebook. Gateways FX series of gaming notebooks have been able to deliver the bulk of the performance of high-end and very expensive gaming notebooks — from the likes of Alienware in Dell — at a much cheaper price.

Gateway is making some noise today in the PC world as it unveils two new desktop PC computers – one of which includes an option for a SuperMulti drive for next generation disc support. Pricing is set at around $750 for the GT5662, while the GM5664 prices at around $1,150.
