Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on May 16th, 2011

The update was supposed to have a mid-April delivery, but Samsung ran into some problems and is now ready to attempt to deliver Gingerbread again. The company has officially stated that it intends to update the entire Galaxy S line, starting with models in the UK and Nordic countries from the middle of this month.

The rest of the globe, including us yanks in North America, will follow “according to the regional plan.” So who else is getting a Gingerbread upgrade? Why, the 7-inch Galaxy Tab and the company’s budget Galaxy devices too, the Ace, Gio, Fit and mini.

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on January 3rd, 2011

Well, they said they would do it and sure enough Samsung has now met it’s goal and sold 10 million Galaxy S smartphones around the world. This was accomplished in less than seven months since the device first hit the market.

North American sales contributed to about 4 million, followed by Europe at 2.5 million. Now that they have achieved this goal, maybe they can offer up the long-delayed Android 2.2 Froyo update to those millions of Galaxy S phones. What do you think Samsung?

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on December 14th, 2010

Some things are rare in white. Buffaloes and iPhone 4s to name a few. Well, if you like your gadgets white, Samsung has launched the ceramic white edition of the Galaxy S in Germany. The specs remain the same and it will be powered by Android 2.1 only.

Samsung has listed the official price at 649 Euros but Amazon Germany is offering a heavy discount by selling this one for 464 Euros. You may not be able to get a white iPhone 4, but at least you can snag a white Galaxy S.

Yesterday there was news that T-Mobile had announced that they would be pushing out an OTA update for the Samsung Galaxy S to Android 2.2 Froyo. Samsung said that if they had problems with the OTA update that it would be available today from Samsung’s KIES software as well.

Sadly, T-Mobile has just announced that the Android 2.2 update for the Galaxy S will be delayed for another week. You would think that they would be ready for the update when they announced it, but that’s not the case.

Samsung Continuum Galaxy S with new SRS WideSurround

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on December 1st, 2010

Smartphones are smart, but not very loud. Until now that is. SRS Labs has announced a whole new audio solution for smartphones that have built-in stereo speakers called SRS WideSurround. It will boost a handsets multimedia capability and provide a wider more detailed perspective for audio.

They say that it will be “an expansive personal surround field so, no matter if a user is holding the device in their hand or propping it up on a table or desk, the overall audio experience is notably more compelling, truly immersive and remarkably more engaging than traditional stereo.” So who is first to get it? Verizon users will be the first, with the new Samsung Continuum Galaxy S that’s available with the service for about $199.99 (on contract).

Samsung sells 3M Galaxy S phones in the US

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on November 9th, 2010

Awhile back, Samsung announced that it had sold 5 million Galaxy S phones globally and 2 million of those were from the US. Now Samsung USA’s Paul Golden has confirmed that the company has sold more than 3 million Galaxy S units in the US and about 7 million globally.

According to Paul, there is a high demand for all of the Galaxy S devices, but the shortage of Super AMOLED displays is causing some supply issues. Either way these are impressive stats and if you have a Galaxy S phone, they thank you for your purchase.

Samsung Galaxy S first smartphone to be Wi-Fi Direct certified

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on November 3rd, 2010

Samsung has another first on it’s hands. The Galaxy S smartphone (GT-I9000) is now listed on the Wi-Fi Alliance’s Wi-Fi Direct certification docket. It’s the first actual device to join that esteemed crowd. Sure, any modern WiFi device is capable of becoming Direct certified (via a firmware update if there’s no hardware change in the protocol), but Samsung is the first.

We’ll keep our eyes and ears open for an actual update that brings this functionality to life. We hope other phone makers follow suit.

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on October 6th, 2010

We knew Samsung’s Galaxy S was on track to kick down some serious sales, but it didn’t take long at all to reach five million. And Samsung is only now getting around to introducing the Galaxy S handset in Japan. Meanwhile the rest of the world has already bought five million units of the Galaxy S phone family.

Over two million of those sales have been made in the US and over one million can be found in South Korea.

Samsung to launch new Galaxy S smartphone on September 16?

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on September 1st, 2010

Samsung fans may want to clear their calendars on September 16th if you happen to be in New York. Why? Because Samsung will be throwing an event that will see the launch of another Android device. It is likely a new Galaxy S smartphone, but until we get something official, that’s just an educated guess.

September 16th is also when Samsung will present its Media Hub platform, an online movie/video store that is specially designed for Samsung smartphones. Very interesting.

Samsung claims to sell 1 million Galaxy S smartphones in 45 days in the US

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on August 30th, 2010

Samsung claims that they’ve sold a million Galaxy S phones in the US over just a month and a half. We know those aren’t iPhone 4 worthy numbers, but that is pretty amazing.

The success isn’t limited to the US. It took Samsung just three weeks to sell a million Galaxy S smartphones globally and they did that before the device even arrived in the US. The company has sold 300,000 in S. Korea alone during that time and 900,000 for the quarter.

Samsung Galaxy S Power Pack

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on August 25th, 2010

The Samsung Galaxy S handset already has a user-replaceable battery. The kind you don’t even have to unscrew some screws to get at even. Just open the back cover and swap it out for a fresh one. It’s designed to be that easy.

So we aren’t sure why you would want to bulk up your phone with this thing, even if it does give you an extra 8.5 hours of talk time. Still, we’ve seen worse. Nothing on pricing or availability yet.

White Galaxy S heads to South Korea

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on August 18th, 2010

So if you are in South Korea and wanted the phone in white, feel free to get one now. An international version of the white version is expected soon. Dirty fingerprints will be right behind.

Samsung Galaxy S heads to RadioShack on three carriers

Posted in Samsung by Shane McGlaun on August 13th, 2010

I usually venture into a RadioShack store once a year or so when I am in the mall around Christmas just to see all the sweet remote control toys they carry. The Shack has been working hard to get people to come in more and one of the ways that it has pulled that off is by turning itself into a seller of all wireless phones.

The Shack is offering the sweet new Galaxy S smartphone on three different carriers all in one place. You can get the Galaxy S as the Epic for Sprint, Vibrant for T-Mobile, or the Captivate for AT&T. The AT&T device sells for $199, while the other two are apparently going for $149.99.
