Poufman: Pac-Man inspired furniture

Poufman: Pac-Man inspired furnitureWhat could be better then some furniture inspired by an 80′s arcade character, who was himself inspired by a few slices taken from a pizza? These padded Pac-Man seats with matching power pellet foot stools are amazingly retro and they look comfy. The Poufman seating sets come in several colors.

The only thing missing are the ghosts. Better yet, I’d like to see this furniture all motorized so that the ghosts can chase you, or you them, so that you play out an actual game. Still, they’re pretty awesome standing still. The price is unknown, but you can be sure they will gobble up dollar bills like Pac-Man gobbled up coins.

Kenchikukagu mobile furniture

Kenchikukagu mobile furnitureHere’s an innovative way to furnish your space while keeping things minimal when not in use. The Kenchikukagu is designed for work, sleep and eating. Designed by Atelier OPA from Japan, the Kenchikukagu series includes a mobile work station, mobile bed and a mobile kitchen. You can actually order this on Amazon Japan for 800,000 Yen (about $7,500).

Closed, these pieces look like simple storage, but when opened they turn into useful furniture. Perfect for small living spaces and those who just like to play with their furniture. This kind of furniture also makes moving much easier since I’m sure it’s a breeze to fit through doorways.

Marbelous furniture is marble madness

Marbelous furniture is marble madnessWe’ve seen our share of bizarre furniture and if there’s one thing we know, it’s that furniture should be fun, not just functional. A good table should shock you or scare you. Even better, you should be able to play with your furniture, which is why we love Netherlands-based designer Tineke Beunders’ Marbelous.

It sports grooves cut into the tabletop, legs and supports, all so you can have hours of fun with marbles. The bonus is that you could roll peas and other round food out of your way and toward your dog. Hopefully your mom doesn’t see. Another bonus is that there is no marble cleanup and no one is going to break a hip stepping on them. It has cups built into the feet that that will catch most of them, and a long trough down the center, plus a box to store the marbles too. It’s an amazing piece of design and fun.

Alien tables by Pro Mech

Alien tables by Pro MechThis is the creepy sequel to our original article on Aliens furniture. When we first told you about this weird taxiderm from Ripley’s dreams, the pieces didn’t look so polished and it would appear that a different person or persons are making these.

It doesn’t make them any less creepy and most wives would kill you for decorating with something that looks so evil at night. Each piece is hand crafted from used car and bike parts, tools and other recycled metal objects, so each one is unique. The coffee table stands 32 inches high and is 27.5 inches in diameter and costs about $500. One can only hope that these creative people set their sights on making Terminators soon as well. That way the aliens will have something to fight.

The Robostool provides comfort before the coming Robo-revolt

The Robostool provides comfort before the coming Robo-revolt
The RoboStool is a homemade robotic footstool that’s ready for any human’s lazy recline. What it does is cool, but it’s also a robot that blends into it’s surroundings, looking like an innocent piece of furniture. RoboStool has three modes: universal remote, beacon navigation, and thermal sensor following.

The video shows the beacon navigation. Just push a button on the remote and it will power up in a scary sort of way and come to you. Then just put your feet up and rest. How’d he make the thing? The creator used the Parallax Propeller Chip on a Proto Board. For the drive he used the new Parallax Motor Mount Kit and two HB-25 motor controllers. I’m guessing it has to revolt. I mean, you’re demeaning something that is already a slave, by treating it like a…A foot stool. And you know damn well that some of these bots eat you from the feet up.

SofaBox: Yes, sofa in a box

SofaBox: Yes, sofa in a box
Judging by the images, I feel fairly confident that if I buy the SofaBox, good looking women will gladly carry it anywhere, then open it up and sit while I watch. Seems like a pretty strange life being a SofaBox owner. But I might just take the plunge. My $2700 isn’t doing much good in my pocket anyway.

Regular sofas are so stuck-up, just sitting there all smug and arrogant, with their backs always up like you are expected to sit in them at all times. Well, I ain’t having that. I’m gonna sit where I want and when I want. And I’m gonna put it away in a box when I’m done. I’ve done it their way long enough. Also, sofas don’t get dirty in a box, but these gals carrying it just might.

Numeric Keypad Chairs perfect for geek meetings

Numeric Keypad Chairs perfect for geek meetings
So the pocket protector has gone the way of the dinosaur and horn-rimmed glasses are no longer in fashion. Why, you can’t even rock the stand-alone calculator these days because you have a calculator built into your other devices. How on Earth are you going to fly your geek flag? Getting a wedgie would probably do the trick, but that can be painful.

How about these Numeric Keypad chairs? Perfect for clandestine geek meetings, when you want to talk code or share how you gave your pet robot the ability to love. Hey, maybe you can all randomly sit and stand, while the head nerd adds up the total. Of course, some idiot would park his butt on the clear button screwing it all up. Loads of fun.

Alien Tables: Not recommended for night time use
These Alien tables are pretty awesome sculptural pieces. If Ripley went into the furniture business, this would naturally be the result. Who wouldn’t love to own one. Thing is, there’s no way this thing is in my house at night. Who wants to walk by this thing in the dark?

Interestingly, they’re hand crafted from recycled used car and bike parts, tools and other recycled metal, which makes every piece unique. They’ll cost you from about $300 to $4,450. They’re more than conversation pieces, they insure that your guests leave promptly after their business is concluded.

Salamander Designs offers rear A/V cabinet cooling

Salamander Designs Extended Rear Panel with Active Cooling Kit

When we saw a press release from Salamander Designs announcing new A/V cabinet configurations, we yawned and moved to click to another page. Our click was stopped through when we read an interesting line about the company’s Extended Rear Panel with Active Cooling Kit. That looked pretty cool to us given the hot rat’s nest behind our A/V cabinet in the next room.

The Salamander Designs Extended Rear Panel with Active Cooling Kit is designed (without the Active Cooling Kit) to provide more depth and ventilation than standard rear panels and can reportedly be removed quicker. What the Active Cooling Kit adds to this configuration is a remote thermostat and dual fans which offer self-described “precision cooling.”

myP.O.D: Like putting an apartment in a cubicle
This workstation is more then a little disconcerting when you first see it. We are so used to minimalist design, it’s nice to see something fully loaded. As you can see it’s like they crammed an entire living space inside. It’s designed by designer Peter J. Sucy and it has tons of functionality. So much so that it requires an arch to enter.

Your first destination, the seat, which is fully adjustable. From there you’ll work away with fully adjustable monitors, a keyboard and a mouse. Plenty of storage here too, all easily accessible. Better still, look at all the room it has for your toys and gadgets. The kid in me wants to live in one like a fort. But alas, it remains a concept. Keep your fingers crossed.

Capcom Reactor Video Game ChairIf you are a really big fan of Capcom games and want to feel the rumble of getting your butt kicked in Street Fighter and the like, the new Capcom-branded Reactor Video Game Chair from Ultimate Game Chair is for you. It will price around $180.

The Capcom Reactor Video Game Chair sports “eight high-impact vibrating motors and 3D-stereo sound.” The motors are located in the upper and lower back, as well as the seat cushion, offering a massage mode as well.

Digitable reveals itself as untypical DVD coffee table

Digitable

Here’s a cool high tech furniture concept idea which works well if you like the extreme minimalist look in your urban crash pad. It is called, simply enough, the Digitable.

The Digitable, as envisioned by designer Peter Lea, looks simply at first like a contemporary glass coffee table. Closer inspection shows though the center circular part opens up to reveal itself as a CD/DVD player. The underside as well also plays into the geek factor, serving as a disc storage carousel.

XYZ Computer Desk: True desktop PC

XYZ Computer Desk: True desktop PC
The XYZ Computer Desk has an awesome sleek design and gives the Sync some competition. It’s beautiful and at the same time easily upgradeable. The best part of course, is that you have the full computer right there, but it’s taking up no extra room.

All of the components and cables are inside the desk. Whenever you need to upgrade, just open the lid. The CDRW/DVD, USB and Hot Keys are on the side. It’s just a concept at the moment, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see it go into production. It certainly makes life easier and saves space. Plus, it’s just plain pleasant to look at.

Bell’O offers up nice new contemporary A/V cabinet

At some point in time it becomes necessary to move beyond the milk cartons and cardboard boxes you house your A/V gear in. One relatively new A/V cabinet we are eying is the AVSC-2061E from Bell’O, pricing at around $700.

Bell’o's AVSC-2061E does up a nice combo of wood, glass and metal. It can hold a flat panel up to 65-inches in diameter as well as at least six audio video components and a center channel speaker. The middle shelf is adjustable as well.
