Posted in Digital Photo Frames by Conner Flynn on January 8th, 2010

Digital photo frames are so yesterday. Any frame can display a photo. But what about one that redraws your photo? Now we’re talking. Casio’s Digital Art Frame takes your own digital photos and transforms them into paintings. Or more precisely, digital images with special effects.

There are eight different art form effects, including oils, pastels and watercolors, and the frame will also play audio files and videos. If you fancy yourself a Van Gogh, or just want to see your images as if in a museum, you’ll want to wait for this one.

Samsung digital frames are also a second PC monitorLooking like typical Samsung LCD digital photo frames, these have an interesting and more useful feature. You can use them as a secondary PC monitor and you won’t need a special video card. The 8-Inch Samsung SPF-85H LCD will cost you $142 and 10-inch Samsung SPF-105P LCD costs $204.

Thanks to some hocus pocus called UbiSync PC, you can display computer imagery on them via the USB port. The 8-inch version will give you 800×600 resolution, while the 10-inch has a 1024×600 screen. Both models offer 1GB of internal image storage and a memory card slot if you want to use them as a plain old digital photo frame. Pretty cool.

Photo frame with viruses sold at major Retailers
Has there been a week recently when China-made products have not been in the news? Normally it’s tainted food and toxic lead. Now it’s a malicious virus-infected digital photo frame. Computer Associates identified it as Mocmex , “a nasty worm that has a great deal of intelligence” and “a nuclear bomb of malware”.

It’s a malicious self-propagated worm that has been steadily spreading worldwide with variants of over 67,500 kinds. That’s cause for some concern. It was first identified as a Trojan horse that collected passwords from online games, but after further study, it’s able to get around more than a hundred antivirus vendors as well as Windows security layers. Now it could potentially collect personal and private data.
