Hello Kitty Mimobots are an army of darkness headed for USB portsThese Hello Kitty Mimobots look absolutely terrifying when there are several together. They travel in packs you see, seeking out your USB port so that they can feed on your files like cute feline vampires in overalls. They are evil and I’m scared. These are in celebration of Hello Kitty’s 35th anniversary.

Sanrio and mimoco got together one stormy night and brainstormed over what kind of creepy thing they could do next. This is their Frankenstein creation. A 2 GB flash drive sells for $25, while the 4 GB version sells for $35 and there’s an 8 GB version that sells for $50.

These 2GB USB flash drives come with no pre-loaded content which is fine, because you are buying them for cuteness alone. The packaging says that this is Series 1. So there should be more coming soon. They’ll be available at Entertainment Earth in October for $24.99

Dane-Elec sells games on USB flash drivesDane-Elec has decided to sell games in a new way. One that has nothing to do with the optical disc format but instead is in the form of a USB flash drive. As you might expect, these are bargain bin titles.

Dane-Elec will make available older titles like Rainbow Six Lockdown , Blazing Angels and Fashion Designer which are going for just $19.99 or $24.99, depending on the game. I guess the upside is that after the installation, and after you’ve beaten the game in a few hours, you can use them as standard USB flash drives.

Mini MPC 2000XL Sampler and SP1200 Drum Machine USB flash drivesI think we are all pretty sick of seeing bland and boringly designed flash drives. So, whenever we see one that stands out, we salute the maker and give it it’s props. These mini MPC 2000XL and SP1200 flash drives are pretty awesome.

These two drives are replicas of the AKAI MPC2000XL sampler and the EMU SP1200 drum machine. Devices that made hip hop happen. Both drives come in 4GB capacities and can be pre-ordered now for $40. They should ship in June.

Lenovo rolls out Olympics themed USB flash drivesLenovo is showing some olympic spirit with their new line of Mascot series flash drives, which will remind you of the Olympics and it’s mascots long after they are over. The series consists of 6 colorful 4GB units that will cost around $30 each.

Lenovo didn’t just go all Olympic wild suddenly for no reason, they are the official flash drive designer and manufacturer for the event. They’ve got another series that resemble medallions. If those don’t light your torch, how about an extremely limited edition drive set of five 1GB titanium drives in a special mahogany box?

Zana wood engraved USB flash drives

Zana wood engraved USB flash drives
Zana is hopping on the “tech with wood on the outside” bandwagon and so they will be selling wood-engraved USB flash drives that feature silver as well as “precious stones” for about $59. That will get you about 1GB of storage.

If you want a name or some other personal message engraved on it, you’ll probably have to pay more. I guess this is for the stylish geek who wants to make an impression, but frankly I’m not all that impressed. I would think they would get dented and dinged pretty easily. Then there’s termites too.

Kanguru releases rugged USB flash drive

Kanguru Defender ProHaving a USB flash drive which is tamper proof and hardware encrypted can be a good thing for those paranoid about their personal or business data. To that end Kanguru Solutions is introducing the Kanguru Defender Pro, priced at around $130 maximum for a 4GB flash drive.

The Kanguru Defender Pro comes in 1, 2 and 4GB storage capacities and looks like your typical USB flash drive. Kanguru says this drive differs from others in that it offers “high-level” hardware AES encryption and an aluminum casing which is reportedly rugged and tamper proof. This casing makes it much more difficult to remove the drive’s chip without it breaking and becoming unreadable.

The Voyager model has a rubberized covering and looks like it might be waterproof, but its not. It’s actually designed to take the occasional drop and keep on ticking, which is really nice if you’re holding 32GB of data or a whole bootable OS in your hand. The Survivor has an aluminum casing and it is actually water resistant, letting you tote your 20 hours of outdoor video through the rain forest without worrying about destroying the data, or something like that.
