Odd content for a firmware update, but at least you will have something extra to show your friends in glorious 3D. Mario fans will be delighted.

Is a Firmware Update killing PS3 Blu-Ray drives?

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on January 17th, 2010

Say it ain’t so. Could a firmware update lead to the untimely death of your PS3′s Blu-Ray drive? Maybe. The actual cause is still unconfirmed, but many users over at the Playstation forums are reporting problems with Modern Warfare 2 after updating their consoles to the 3.10 firmware.

They’re experiencing freezing while playing the game, and then after checking, experiencing more freezing in other games too. Speculation is that the firmware has somehow affected the Blu-ray drives. There isn’t any official answer yet, but you may want to pay close atention to how your Playstation 3 is acting when you update and just after.

Sony PSP 3.80 Firmware Upgrade availableWe knew some upgrades were coming for both these devices and today both the PSP 3.80 firmware and the PS3 2.10 firmware upgrades are available for download.

We haven’t seen the PSP 3.80 version available online yet but it is available through the Network Upgrade menu option directly on the PSP bringing streaming internet radio directly to the handheld device. In fact, I’m listening to the ShoutCast player on my PSP while writing this. You’ll need an Wi-Fi internet connection of course, and after installing the update there is a new menu option in the network settings for Internet Radio. Selecting it brings you to an “About” page that shows two different but similar players available for download to your Memory Stick, one from ShoutCast and the other from IceCast, each having 50 genres to choose from once downloaded.
