Exploding Droid 2 was actually dropped?

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on December 11th, 2010

Remember that guy who claimed he was injured when his Motorola Droid 2 exploded in his ear? Well, a source within Motorola believes that the man’s claims are false. Big surprise. This source believes that the phone was dropped and that the guy likely didn’t notice that the glass had cracked, cutting himself when he put his ear to it.

Sounds reasonable to me. The images of the device didn’t give any indication that an explosion had occurred, and the phone still worked so this scenario makes sense. There was also no explosive damage apparent on the device, with nothing blown outward.

Indian farmer killed by exploding mobile phone

It was not a good day for Farmer Gopal Gujjar of Bandha village in Rajasthan. It was a bad day for Nokia as well. Gujjar’s phone exploded in his face. Nokia initially had a problem with their battery, the BL-5C, that was only rumored to explode while charging.

Apparently that was not the case at all as Gujjar’s Nokia 1209 exploded in his face while he was working with his cattle and having a conversation. The explosion caused severe burns to his left ear, neck, and shoulders which turned out to be fatal. This is the first time a phone has exploded without being hooked up to a charger.

Apple tried to silence owner of exploding iPod?

Apple tried to silence owner of exploding iPodWe’ve heard our share of stories involving overheating iPod batteries. Well, there’s an article in today’s Times UK about 11-year-old Ellie Stanborough, whose iPod touch blew up last month. Her father contacted Apple for a refund, got a little bit of a runaround, which is not unusual, and was eventually sent a settlement agreement offering a full refund as long as the family agreed to keep the deal confidential.

That’s pretty standard practice in these situations, but the agreement had a lot of lawyer-speak with a bunch of stuff that could be interpreted as vaguely threatening language about how breaking confidentiality might result in Apple relentlessly going after you. So the media coverage gets all amped up.

Exploding bike lock keeps your ride safe

Exploding bike lock keeps your ride safeBike theft is always going on, especially in big cities. And it really sucks to have your bike stolen and have to walk home. Chances are they can’t even catch the thief, because your bike is so similar to everyone else’s and he’s long gone. These problems are now solved thanks to the exploding bike lock. The exploding bike lock…explodes.

If a thief tries to cut it, bang! It goes off. It sprays permanent dye everywhere when it’s cut, so the thief is covered and thereby easily identified. Chances are he’ll leave the bike and he will also be identifiable. I personally think that it would be an added bonus if it smelled like, say, urine. Serves him right. It’s called Karma punk!
