Connect A Sketch does just what it says

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on April 27th, 2011

Etch a sketch fans know that what the world needs is a connected version of the famous toy. And now it appears that they have one. Andrew Little came up with the idea, wanting to connect with others while he toiled away vertically and horizontally, creating works of art. It is called Connect A Sketch and basically he modified a pair of Etch A Sketches to make them work together. A wireless version is of course on the way.

The end game here is that users could log on to the Connect A Sketch website with a unique user ID and then be able to interact, even work together on artwork. Users can even draw on the Etch A Sketch at the same time, leave messages etc. Maybe even give somebody elses work of art a good shake to clear it, though that would be rude. It’s a great idea and a great way to get kids to be creative.

Steampunk Etch-a-Sketch

Getting an Etch-a-Sketch for Christmas is cool, but you would have to have been a super good boy or girl to get this one. Yes, this is an Etch-a-Sketch modified for the Victorian era. A time when you didn’t have ugly red plastic, but you did have brass and other cool metals.

This one was indeed a Christmas gift, made by one talented young person as a gift for a friend. And he is obviously the best friend a guy could ever have. Great job.

This is one of the coolest retro iPhone 4 cases yet. Headcase has just released the iPhone 4 version of their official Etch A Sketch case. These are the same folks who released the case for the iPad a few months ago. Why not get both so you have a matching pair?

It’s designed to protect your iPhone and is made of impact resistant plastic. To bad you can’t shake it to undo your work. The Etch A Sketch iPhone 4 Case retails for just $24.99.

Etch-a-Sketch fans can now relive their childhood with the iPad thanks to this clever case. It’s pretty awesome. Who knows, it may even save your iPad from being stolen, if the thief is a little dumb.

This case will protect your iPad and it’s shaped like an Etch-a-Sketch. That’s enough reason to buy it right there. Sadly the knobs don’t do anything, but who cares. This thing is cool.

Etch-A-Sketch Freestyle takes some of the fun out of it

Etch-A-Sketch Freestyle takes some of the fun out of itIt’s always nice when our old gadgets and toys get some modern upgrades, but some things just should not be changed. The Etch-A-Sketch Freestyle gets rid of the traditional 2 controller knob design in favor of a single knob that can swivel 360 degrees.

I don’t know about you, but somehow this design feels like cheating. Half the fun of the classic version is that it requires some skill to use it. This is no Etch A Sketch.

World’s first Etch-a-Sketch clock
Here’s a first. The world’s first Etch-A-Sketch clock. They obviously went through a ton of trouble to make it a reality as well. God bless their zelda loving geek hearts. Every minute the device draws out the time in a matter of seconds and then actually erases it to start the process all over again for the next minute. Awesome!

Now if I can only finish my Lite Brite version of Dogs Playing Poker, my place will be all decked out in useless geek tech. Video of the clock below.

Deluxe TV Etch A Sketch
Etch-a-Sketch is finally coming into the 21st century. The Wired Etch-a-Sketch is the digital version of the classic toy that has entertained children as well as bored adults for the past several decades. The TV Etch-a-Sketch takes the toy to the next level.

It has a wide variety of new modes, like Cool Drawing Tools, Trace A Pic, Super Sketch and Connecting the Dots. The controller has the two classic Etch-a-Sketch knobs to keep the nostalgic feel of the original. What about shaking it and clearing what you’ve drawn? That’s the most classic part, after all. Yes, it has that feature too. Just shake the controller and the screen will clear.
