Tablets are for fun right? Well, sometimes they are for education and fancy book-learnin. Err, non book learning I mean. Brainchild has a new Android tablet for students called the Kineo. It’s kid friendly, so it can be dropped, kicked, drooled on, thrown across the room etc.

The Kineo features a touchscreen display good for up to 500,000 impressions and has a 12-hour battery life. It also sports Wi-Fi, a 800 x 480 screen resolution, a 800MHz dual core CPU, 2GB of internal memory and Google Android 2.1. You can pre-order the Kineo from Brainchild for $299. It will ship in March 2011.

Sanyo unveils new projectors

sanyoprojector0408-sbVideo Projectors have replaced the filmstrip projectors and overhead projectors that teachers used when I was in school. Today the teacher can simply pull up a page on her computer or run software and let the whole class view it on a screen or the blackboard. Projectors are certainly much better than fighting those stuttering filmstrips that always seemed to get out of sync with the audio.

Sanyo has announced four new projectors aimed at both the classroom and the boardroom called the PCL-XU355, PLC-XU350, PLC-XU305, and PLC-XU300. The most interesting pair out of the quartet are the XU355 and the XU305, both of which offer the industry’s first Simple Wireless Setting feature via a USB memory stick.

LeapFrog intros “Baby BlackBerry”

LeapFrog intros “Baby BlackBerry”This “Baby BlackBerry” is not from RIM, which would explain all that cheap plastic and the cutesy animal theme. It’s a Text and Learn PDA for kids from LeapFrog. Your little ones will have a jump start on the other kids when it comes to texting and churning out emails.

Alright, so it wont let them email everyone on your contact list. The device features a full QWERTY keyboard and a large LCD display. No Wi-Fi, which should keep your rugrat out of trouble. Just be aware that you are grooming your kid to ask for the real deal in just a few short years. And an unlimited data plan. It will be available in August for £19.99.

Teachermate educational computer
This blue Gameboy type device comes from Innovations for Learning and is designed for schools. It’s got the typical directional buttons, a few other buttons, a 2.5-inch LCD, USB sync, SD card storage, AC/USB charging, and a 3.5-hour battery life.

Supposedly it has “complete reading and math curriculum that is aligned with all of the major reading and math programs,” inside of the device. The idea is to help substitute the learning that Kindergarten through second grade students already get. The company is non-profit, so they only charge for the cost of manufacturing the device, which is $50. However, the reading and math programs will cost $20 per student. They will start rolling them out at 500 Chicago elementary schools.

LeapFrog Didj to release Nintendo DS competitor

LeapFrog Didj to release Nintendo DS competitor
LeapFrog has a new handheld learning/gaming system, the Didj. It should retail for $89.99 when it arrives this summer. LeapFrog isn’t saying that the device is Nintendo DS competitor, but it happens to be aimed toward 6 to 10 year-olds, a demographic that the DS currently rules with an iron fist.

With the Didj they want to up the gaming and graphics while integrating the fancy learning stuff. It’s sure to be a hit with parents who would rather see their kids being educated rather then simply guiding Mario on his latest quest. The Didj has no Wi-Fi connection but it should work with the LeapFrog Connect Application, which lets children customize game content via USB.
