Easy Piano adds a keyboard to the DS Lite

Easy Piano adds a keyboard to the DS LiteSure, Guitar Hero continues to dominate the video game music scene, but some people actually prefer to play the piano. For those musicians, a new title for the DS called Easy Piano will let you tickle the ivories on your portable.

The game comes with a keyboard peripheral so I hope you Mozarts have hung onto your DS Lites. It features a lesson mode, a play-along mode and even a song creation mode. The real question is, what can you play on that tiny keyboard with your huge fingers?

Blaze 3-in-1 selector: Switch between Nintendo DS Lite gamesChances are that if you have ADD, you probably also play video games. You probably just don’t sit with any game for very long. Well here’s a new toy for you. This little device will alow you to quickly flip between your favorite games on your Nintendo DS Lite. You can choose from 3 different games with just the flick of a switch.

The BLAZE 3-in-1 game selector features three cartridge bays, and a single ribbon connector that plugs into your DS’ cartridge slot. It adds bulk to your DS Lite, but the trade off is that you can choose from multiple games without having to carry around an additional case. One of 3 green LEDs lights up to indicate which game is currently active.

Nintendo DS glucose reader for kids with diabetes

Posted in Nintendo DS by Conner Flynn on July 5th, 2009

Nintendo DS glucose reader for kids with diabetesOnce in a while something truly useful surfaces for the Nintendo DS. This is a blood glucose meter plugs into the DS / DS Lite’s Slot-2. Consistent glucose testing by the diabetic child (or adult?) is rewarded with points in a game that can be used to buy items or unlock levels. Sadly the new DSi doesn’t have a Slot-2, so those kids will be left out.

Bayer’s DIDGET meter was developed in conjunction with Paul Wessel, the parent of a child with type 1 diabetes. Paul noticed that his son was constantly losing his blood glucose meter, but he always knew where to find his Nintendo Game Boy. That inspired Paul and Bayer to work together to develop the first and only blood glucose meter that connects to the Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite.

Nintendo DS Lite gets GPS

Posted in Nintendo DS by Conner Flynn on April 19th, 2009

Nintendo DS Lite gets GPS Everything else you own Already has GPS navigation. Your car, your phone, even the Sony PSP has a GPS option. Now it’s time for the Nintendo DS to get into the GPS game. You know, in case you want to locate a gamestop.

Designed by China’s Fab Chain, the Ranger is a GPS module for your NDS Lite. Just plug the Ranger into the accessory port on the front of your NDS, and you’ll get turn-by-turn directions with Google Maps integration. It will display maps in both 2D and fake 3D perspective modes, and even has automatic day/night modes. The module even has its own built in rechargeable batteries, so it won’t drain your NDS’ power supply.

GTA: Chinatown Wars DS Lite

GTA: Chinatown Wars DS LiteEarlier in the week, the Nintendo World Store in New York celebrated the release of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for the DS. To honor the occasion, there was a special midnight release party with the usual free stuff and special giveaways.

The above DS Lite was one of those giveaways. And yes, I feel your pain and also wish I was there. Lucky bastitches. Check out the GTA:CTW chopstick styluses, which I’m sure gives Nintendo all kinds of ideas about a game that teaches one how to use them.

Nintendo offers two new DS Lite bundlesIf you haven’t got yourself a DS Lite by now, I don’t know if these two new bundles are going to lure you in. And if you already own a DS lite, chances are you are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the DSi here in the states.

But if Nintendo has the urge to bundle, at least a few of you will have the urge to buy. The bundles come in an Ice Blue Brain Age set with custom carrying case and a Mario Red New Super Mario Bros set with “M” logo. They’re pretty nice looking and are being released this Friday for $150.

Overclock your DS Lite with XCM Hyper Gear case

Posted in Nintendo DS by Conner Flynn on November 5th, 2008

Overclock your DS Lite with XCM Hyper Gear caseOverclocking your DS Lite, without having to open it up or use software? The new XCM Hyper Gear case for the DS Lite not only gives your handheld a new look, it also turbocharges your DS Lite games thanks to a switch on it’s bottom right corner. Just flip it, and your DS Lite will run at 140% or 170% of its normal speed.

Seems like it won’t kill your DS, but your battery will die pretty fast. It speeds up your game’s graphics and audio, making everything seem like your DS has a coke habit. XCM expects to release the Hyper Gear case within the next few weeks. So when Mario says Wa-hoo! he’s gonna mean it this time.

Limited Edition Pokemon DS Lite at GameStop

Limited Edition Pokemon DS Lite at GameStop
This one is a few years late and about a hundred pokemon short, but look what finally showed up in the U.S. No wonder Pikachu is acting all weird. This first appeared in Japan almost two years ago and this pic was apparently snapped at a gamestop store in the U.S.

Looks like there’s no game bundled with it, but you do get a matching carrying case, 22-minute Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DVD, a Grovyle poster, and a Pokemon t-shirt. So, if you’ve got to catch them all, rush out and find one for $129.99 as soon as you can. That’s about all the info we have on this one.

DS Paddle is the perfect Arkanoid controller

DS Paddle is the perfect Arkanoid controller
If you’re a fan of the classic arcade game arkanoid, then like me you’ve been waiting for it to hit the Wii. Until it does, you can at least play it on your Nintendo DS. And if you remember playing the classic NES version with the special paddle controller, then you know there’s no other way to play it.

Taito has made a limited number of these plug-in accessories for the DS, so you can up your high score. They’re available in white, black, pink and silver. Unfortunately they aren’t officially available in the US so you’ll have to find an importer. At only $26.90 each it’s well worth it..

Guitar Hero: On Tour DS bundle

Guitar Hero: On Tour DS bundle
Rock on brotha! Toys ‘R’ Us gave us a first glimpse at the latest way to be a rock god on the go. It’s priced at $179.99 and the limited edition Nintendo DS Guitar Hero Bundle includes the game, Guitar Grip, and a two-toned silver & black DS Lite with Guitar Hero logo. (You know, so that even when your DS is not in use, you’re branded and can spot other wannabes)

It will be available on June 29. Chalk up yet another variation on Nintendo’s handheld. Did someone go a little approval crazy regarding colors and themes this season, or are they themselves too busy rocking out?

New DS Lite flavors: Cherry and Lime

New DS Lite flavors: Cherry and Lime
A pair of new DS Lite flavors have been seen in the wild. And by the wild, I mean on some Spanish retail sites, in delicious looking cherry and lime candy colors. One of the sites is GAME, who are said to be the second-largest specialty gaming retailer worldwide, so we have good reason to think these beauties are real.

I guess we’ll know one way or the other on June 13, when they’re supposed to hit. It would be a real shame if these are not real though. These colors just make you salivate. I gotta have some candy around here somewhere. Damn! They just look so…Juicy.

Nintendo DS Lite charging dock

Posted in Chargers by Darrin Olson on May 16th, 2008

Charging dock for the Nintendo DS LiteFor some reason it just seems nicer to me when I have some type of cradle, dock or stand to charge my gadgets with instead of just a cord and naturally we were excited to see this charging stand for the Nintendo DS Lite. Sure the docks take up more room on my desk and are difficult to take along when you travel, but with them each items has their own neat and special place.

This stand looks to take up a little less space then it could, holding the DS upright on its side instead of flat. It comes in colors of black or white to match the black and white DS’s, and is expected to be available from PlayAsia sometime yet this month for just under $17 USD.

Smallest paper Nintendo DS even has tiny game

Posted in Designs by Darrin Olson on February 3rd, 2008

Tiny Nintendo DS Lite design made out of paperSomeone with a combined love of Nintendo’s DS and craft projects created with paper, not to mention some skills, has created what we believe to be the smallest replica of the Nintendo DS Lite. The little DS measures just 1.4 inches at its longest point and SonicScape Jun, the creator, even took the time to make a Nintendodgos game cartridge that actually fits in. The top also opens to reveal the double screens via a toothpick powered hinge.

From looking at the photos it appears that some incredible attention to detail and time was taken to make this little DS lite, but the maker of this paper design created a DIY video showing how you can make your own inside of 90 minutes with just scissors, pen knife, glue and this template. We’re thinking there is also an undisclosed prerequisite of skill that would significantly increase this time for most of us.

Nintendo DS Lite bundles in rose & gold

Nintendo DS Lite bundles in rose & gold

2 great new bundles from Nintendo. Looks like they are taking the boy/girl route here. For the boys, the Gold model comes with Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and sports a special Triforce logo on the DS. For the girls(presumably), the Metallic Rose model gives you Nintendogs and adds a paw print in place of the Zelda logo.

Other then the colors and logos being new, you’ll get the same old DS Lite you know and love. If you are a fan of repackaged Nintendo handhelds that have had a repaint, you can pick one up for about $130.
