Car stereos that are also iPod-friendly are nothing new. Thing is, we’re mostly talking about a dock, with your iPod sitting in front for thieves to spot. The CA-IP500 from Fusion Electronics is different. The face flips open so you can insert your iPod like you would a Cassette tape.

The device will work with the iPod Touch Gen1 & 2, the iPod Classic Gen5, 6 & 7 and the iPod Nano Gen2,3 & 4. Once in it’s slot, you control the iPod via joystick and touch wheel, just like on the iPod. You’ll also get a dot matrix OLED display, SRS Wos sound shaping, AM/FM tuner, 7-band equalizer, security code, aux-in port and of course it will charge your player while it’s inside. It will cost you $349, so while it isn’t cheap, it may help you avoid a broken window and a missing iPod.

There’s no shortage of iPod alarm clocks on the market, but every now and then you see one that stands out. Take the iDesign SongView for instance. It suckers you in with it’s 1.3 inch scrolling display on the base, which cycles between the date and time, current song, artist, playlist and album when you’re listening to your iPod. You can actually see it from across the room.

Get it? SongView? It comes with the usual remote for controlling all the features, line out and line in jacks for external speakers and will take a non-iPod MP3 player as well. Not too bad for $99.99.

How cool would it be to dock your iPhone in a rotary telephone while running this app. This hack turns your old rotary phone into a cool iPhone docking station. It’s sure to sound great since it has 16 Watts of speaker power hidden in the device.

It sports one speaker behind the dial on the front of the phone and two speakers in the handset itself. The IR sensor and controls are on the side of the phone and the docking port is hidden under the receiver when the hand set is off. This is a pretty awesome mod if you have a 1940’s phone laying around. Video below.

My god, it’s full of stars ports! It also makes for one fancy-ass iPod dock. The HomeDock HD Pro was unveiled at CEDIA earlier this year and it has now made its way off the production line and began shipping. This upscaling iPod dock takes your stored media and sends it out via HDMI in 720p / 1080i. It even has an RS-232 control port. It remains to be seen if this dock can really make HD video out of your iPod movies, but at $399 it had better.

Wireless iPod docks are not new, but the trend kind of died out leaving us with many tethered versions. Marantz has one of their own to offer with the IS301, a Lucullan wireless iPod dock that transmits both audio and video and includes a receiver with ports for your home theater. Almost every dock-connecting iPod will work and it also features Bluetooth 2.1 for BT-enabled devices. It should hit Japan in January for about $277. Hopefully the US soon after.

The i-Station Rotate from Logic3 is the latest offering in the i-Station line. It makes sure that your iPod or iPhone is always oriented in the right direction, which I’m sure will help you avoid some neck problems while watching videos. The i-Station Rotate has a built-in dock rotating mechanism that turns your device horizontal or vertical depending on your whims, when you still need it to be connected to the dock.

It’s pretty practical and compact, which is good for taking the i-Station Rotate with you on the road etc. It features a Video Out function, TDMA noise suppresion, 3.5mm Stereo line-in socket, a remote control and a carrying case. You can get the i-Station Rotate in January of next year for $129.99.

There are a million eye-catching iPod accessories, but this one manages to stand out nicely. This odd looking iPod dock/speaker combo is from designer Jean-Michel Jarre and resembles something you would charge your lightsaber in that also doubles as a heater. It’s called the AeroSystem, retro in name and design.

It’s currently available only in France, and costs about $580, complete with an iPod-inspired remote. Seems to me that it’s more of a suicide station for when your iPod hears about the state of the economy or that Apple has released a new model. Stationed high atop it’s high-rise, it is free to make the decision to jump or not jump.

Images of an upcoming Sirius Boombox, the SUB-X2, were leaked on Monday. It obviously resembles the SUB-X1 boombox, with a front-panel headphone jack, auxiliary input that will allow users to plug in their personal MP3 players and non universal docking Sirius radios. We can also expect some other refinements with the X2. There isn’t any info on features, but it should retail for about $100.

The makers of this lamp/iPod dock obviously believe in simplicity as well as educating people Sesame Street style on the letter C. It is a space saver. We’ve seen our share of iPod docks and USB lamps, but not together in the same device, that I’m aware of.

The Conof USB lamp has a bright light and can swivel 270 degrees, making it extra useful. Not many details, but it appears to have dual USB ports, so you can dock your iPod and another item of your choice. The lamp is powered via the USB port on your computer. Once you tire of this device, maybe they’ll throw some “D” letter action your way with another like it.

Got wood? Yamaha does. Yamaha Japan announced the TSX-120 and TSX-130 iPod docks, both with a soft wood finish. The TSX-130 seen above comes with USB connectors and a CD-drive which supports playback and recording. Shared features on these units include an amplifier output of 15W × 2ch, 2 x eight cms speakers, frequency response of 60Hz ~ 20kHz, FM tuner and remote control.

Sure, nothing new here, but look, wood! They may match your style and even if they don’t, they’re bound to match that Atari you have lying around.These should hit Japanese stores in early December if you want one for X-mas. The TSX-120 will sell for about$ 300, while the TSX-130 will be about $ 400.

Look, your desk is looking really messy. I get it. Too much stuff. Some of the stuff you put inside other stuff, which connects to still more stuff, which you have to disconnect to recharge other stuff. It’s enough to drive you crazy. Wires, docks and slots are everywhere, sometimes you can;t find your computer. Well here’s a great solution.

The Griffin Simplifi combines the functionality of three devices in one package. It also has an adapter for charging your iPod without the computer or for an external HDD. You also get two USB hubs and it supports Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, SD, xD and CF cards. The Griffin Simplifi will cost about $70 and will let you clean up some of that clutter.

If you are married or have a live in partner that isn’t into technology and gadgets and loathes cords, you probably know what a source of irritation cords can be. You know what happens, you go to plug your phone in, and the charger is gone, stuffed away in some drawer because it looked bad. You spend time hunting for it getting more irritated by the second.

The E-ZCHARGE Dock may be able to help you avoid cable clutter and hidden chargers. The device connects directly to any cell phone charger according to the maker and doesn’t block the outlets around it. Once attached the excess cable can be wrapped around the non-slip surface of the dock and provides a place to store the phone.

Sony has created a somewhat original looking and refreshing third-generation iPod/iPhone clock radio dock, the ICF-CD3iP, according to an apparent leak by a Sony Insider. The dock has a unique circular design that holds a clock, AM/FM radio and a CD player, with simple controls in front for playback.

A side dock holds the Apple device. It can play MP3’s, CDs and CD-R/RW audio discs. The iPhone or iPod are integrated with the alarm clock and it comes with a remote so you don’t have to get out of bed to turn it off. Looks like it has nice big numbers as well, for those that need them. The ICF-CD3iP will reportedly be available in October. Price is estimated at $100.

Here’s something retro and neat. Dock your new music thing into an old music thing. It’s the Phonofone II, Limited Edition in Black and it’s designed by Tristan Zimmerman with only 200 of the devices available for sale. It looks like yet another iPod speaker dock in the shape of a Victrola but this time it’s different, I swear. It uses no power except the power of your iPod Classic or iPod Touch to amplify music through the horn part of the Phonofone II at 55 decibels.

So it’s like actually blending the technologies of past and present. Ok, not really. The iPod Nano or shuffle won’t be powerful enough to amplify the Phonofone II unless you use an inline headphone amplifier. It’s like Thomas Edison and Steve Jobs collaborated, with Steve setting the price. The Phonofone II sells for $600.

Whether you’re into the classics or just want it to look like you are, the Ode to Beethoven MP3 Player Speakers will bring a little Beethoven into your life. It is designed by UK artist Fiona Thomson, with the idea of combining classic artistic aesthetics with modern technology. More importantly, it lets you dock your mp3 player in a stone bust of Beethoven’s head, so you can look all classy while playing your AC/DC and Alice Cooper. Right now, it’s still just a concept, but hopefully it will be a reality soon and herald a new age of stone iPod docks.
