The Rockterscale is an advanced scientific instrument that measures exactly how hard a crowd is rocking out. The Hat of Rock measures the amount of head thrashing going on, while the dance floor mat pictured above measures the amount of dancing and foot movement happening. Note the crash barrier in front which uses a force sensor to determine how hard the crowd is pushing against it.

There’s also a webcam on the ceiling to measure the movement of the crowd as well as audio monitors to get a sound level reading. Basically, it determines if you are rocking or sucking. Rocking is complicated business after all. It’s not all just panties on the stage and ten minute guitar solos.Check out a video of the Rockterscale in action below.

John Maushammer enjoyed some minor fame in geek circles with his Pong wristwatch, but he craved more. So he delivered unto mankind a new great thing. The DIY Asteroids Watch outdoes it’s predecessor.

It even features a tilt sensor so the wearer can control the action by just tilting their wrist and going pew pew pew. Frankly, we could go on about it all day, but the bottom line is that the man is a DIY game watch god. Check out a video below.

It’s been awhile since we saw a really cool Wii case mod, though we did bring you 14 neat mods some time ago. This custom Star Wars case mod is pretty awesome and you can learn to make one too. Just be warned that the creator invested over 100 hours of work.

It includes lots of LEDs and fiber optics to give it some nice glowing effects. If you’d rather buy one and not put in the time, you can find this gem on ebay for $499.99. It features stars that fade in and out, custom Red Light Bar, and a hand Painted Death Star, X-Wing and Darth Vader’s Tie-Fighter. Pretty sweet.

This mod is the work of a clever high school modder who completed the project one night, instead of chasing girls and boozing it up. See kids, a clean life will yield great Lego geek toys. Looks like this kid basically just gutted his PS and inserted the innards into a custom Lego case. Which doesn’t make it easy, just simple.

Chocolate and Peanut butter, peanut butter and jelly, hemp and video games. Some things just go together. Modder DHRECK has moded the first ever WiiMote ensconced in hemp twine. It’s fully functional and covered all the way from the tip of the Nun-chuck all the way to the sensor on the WiiMote.

Stoners and hippies now have a new folk hero in DHRECK and are wondering how to give it a slow burn for intense gaming highs. Naturally, you have to wonder about the response of buttons and the stick, but if you’re using this thing, chances are you are more interested in your bong water levels then your game score.

Everyone is into fancy musical shirts these days. Shirts, shirts, the magical fruit, the more you wear ‘em the more they toot. Or something like that. You can make yourself one of these wearable toy piano shirts if you have the know-how. This one was made by a crafty and crazy modder who gutted a toy electronic piano and then sewed it into the fabric of a shirt. Of course that includes the batteries, speaker, and circuit board.

It was shown at the DIY Festival in Zurich and it looks pretty sweet in a Tron sort of way. I’d be happy with just the shirt, minus the piano parts. Yes, more outer space wear please.

How cool would it be to dock your iPhone in a rotary telephone while running this app. This hack turns your old rotary phone into a cool iPhone docking station. It’s sure to sound great since it has 16 Watts of speaker power hidden in the device.

It sports one speaker behind the dial on the front of the phone and two speakers in the handset itself. The IR sensor and controls are on the side of the phone and the docking port is hidden under the receiver when the hand set is off. This is a pretty awesome mod if you have a 1940′s phone laying around. Video below.

Daniel Pon loves Steampunk. So when it came time to make a steampunk mouse to go with his Steampunk keyboard and monitor, he went a little crazy with the design. The end result? Pretty damn cool. And maybe a bit morbid.

The Paradox Mouse is a great steampunk mod with typical brass, bolts, gears, wood, etc. A great neo-Victorian peripheral. But it has a few extra features that Daniel calls “ironic”. These features are a real mouse skull, shoulder blades and spine, all lovingly worked into the project. The skull sits on the front of the mouse, the shoulder blades as miniature cattle catchers, and the spine as the palmrest.

This guy made this video to prove that he is better then you at Guitar Hero 3 using drumsticks. He has an advantage that you don’t. A custom midi controller designed to play as if you were drumming. He also obviously kicks ass playing the drums.

He’s obviously crazy. I’m pretty sure he’s animal from the Muppets, all shaved down and incognito. Amazing yes. Also amazingly nerdy. What else can you say?

It’s about time HAL had feet, but it may not be the smartest thing to give this unbalanced bot that much mobility. Sure, he’s cute and made of paper, but make no mistake, he still would prefer humans dead. This time it won’t be by shutting off cryogenic chambers and watching humans drift off into space. This time, he’ll use cuteness to get you close and paper cuts to finish you off. If you choose to print and assemble this papercraft version, there will be blood.

If you are a band geek who prefers getting wedgies instead of having panties thrown on stage, this is for you. Though I’m not sure you can fit this Trumpet back in it’s case after it’s been modded. What we have here is GH for the Trumpet.

Who knows, maybe you too can be a star between bouts of getting your head stuck in the toilet and getting beat up on the bus. This is simply a Trumpet hooked up to a computer. Since the trumpet has only three buttons on it, it should be easy to make a video game for it that would easily teach others the trumpet. Sadly it has 3 less buttons then GH so you can’t use it to play GH.

Here’s a little something for smokers who love their gadgets. If you have a spare iPod laying around, you too can be very James Bond like and turn it into a cigarette case.

Basically, just remove the guts and replace said guts with butts. Makes a great conversation piece and your be the life of any party. It can be a secret compartment for anything small, not just cigs. This person came up with the idea when their iPod had an encounter with the pavement and died.

Some mods don’t make a whole lot of sense. Why tear out the innards of your Wii, just to put an N64 inside? An SNES in a Wii would still be questionable, but at least that’s an SNES. This inbred Nintendo creation is dubbed the “Wii64″, and keeps the Wii’s blue lights lighting up whenever it is turned on. The Wii64 is currently on eBay, where bidding began with $49.99. It’s somehow up to $64. What we need are more console guitars.

This is about a year old, but it’s cool. This guy turned his Prius into a Star Trek Shuttle, basically just using decals and adding blue lights under the car. Interesting how the Prius’ shape lends itself to a Star Fleet shuttle. Inside the car, he has it set up so he can add sound effects. This is a mod with minimum customization, that just about anybody can pull off. I wonder if his garage looks like the hanger deck and has one of these parked inside.

You might think that a Lego safe would be easy to open. Maybe just remove a few bricks and you’re in. But that’s not the case with this thing, the cutting edge of Lego safe technology. The safe weighs 14 pounds and has a motion detecting alarm so it can’t be moved without creating a huge ruckus.

The lock takes five double digit codes to open it. That translates into over 305 billion different combinations. It even boasts an electronic status display showing the numbers as you turn the combination dials. When you enter the combination, the door electronically opens itself.
