D-Link ships DIR-685 all in one routerThe DIR-685 was first introduced way back in January at CES and now the company has began shipping them. The DIR-685 features a built-in draft N Wi-Fi module that allows it to communicate with network attached storage devices.

But that isn’t all it does. That 3.2 inch LCD screen will play streaming video or you can use it as a digital photo frame. If you like stats, it will display status information in graphs and gauges too. Like weather, but don’t have any windows to look outside? You can program the screen to display weather forecasts and other live internet content. This router does a lot.

So it makes sense that Belling’s new Media Chef digital cookbook actually contains 48 cooking instructional videos from chef Brian Turner on its 8-inch screen.

You get an included remote control and the device can also function as a general media player, calendar and photo frame. It will retail for about £170 ($271 US). We don’t know when it will be available though.

Sony is going where no brand has gone before in the world of digital photo frames with the announcement of the DPP-F700. It’s basically a 7 inch frame that has a printer attached.

It’s a WVGA display with support for up to 800 x 480 resolution. You also get a gigabyte of memory, 21 different templates for displaying the time and date and it supports a bunch of card types, SD cards, SDH cards, etc.

HP DreamScreen does Pandora, Media StreamingHP’s new DreamScreen 100 and 130 aren’t your usual digital picture frames, but they will function in pretty much the same way. They also happen to stream photos, music, play videos, connect to Pandora, and manage to handle social networking too.

The DreamScreen 100 sports a 10.2-inch screen and the 130 has a 13.3-inch screen. Both have 2GB of built-in storage and a flash card reader and USB for more room. You can load content through storage or via drag-and-drop software on the PC. It will stream audio and photos but not video.

Retro TV digital photo frameWe’ve seen all kinds of digital photo frames, but this one comes in a retro form, looking like a retro TV. Which is a much cooler form than what we typically see. This one comes from Japan’s mag labs.

It packs in a small 3.5 inch screen with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels, with 128 mb of memory and an SD card slot. It won’t play I love Lucy or Leave it to Beaver, but it does support playback of AVI and MP3 files and is powered by AC adapter or the built in Lithium Ion battery.

Swarovski crystals aside, the frame features a 7″ LCD WVGA display at 800 x 480 resolution, 1GB of internal memory and an Auto-Resizing adjustment system that will downsize photos without much image deterioration.

It will accept a wide range of popular memory card formats and also sports a USB port. You’ll also get a calendar, clock and a few different view modes. The Auto Rotation sensor lets you display images in either landscape or portrait mode.

The frames give somewhere for all of the digital pictures they shoot to be viewed. Digital frames have become much more useful since makers have begun integrating Wi-Fi into the frames.

Samsung introduced four new digital photo frames today called the SPF-85H, SPF-85V, SPF-105P, and SPF-105V. The 85 models have an 8-inch screen and the 105 models both have a 10-inch screen. Both the 85V and 105V have built-in Wi-Fi connectivity with 802.11b/g. The Wi-Fi frames are optimized for Windows Live Spaces for photo sharing and can display RSS feeds from USA Today and more.

For the most part the pictures sit around on my memory card until it gets full and I copy them to a folder on my hard drive. Recently I have started getting digital photo frames and actually displaying the digital photos that usually just sit there and do nothing.

Kodak introduced a couple new digital picture frames today called the M820 and the M1020. The M820 is an 8-inch frame and the M1020 is a 10-inch frame. Both share the same features including 16:9 aspect ratio, 128 MB of internal memory and built-in speakers to play MP3 tunes. Card readers are built-in that allow direct connecting of CF, SD, MMC, xD, and MS.

The eStarling 7 inch LCD digital picture frame allows you to rotate through different digital pictures on the frame, but that certainly is not what makes it special.

This picture frame is also WiFi enabled and picks up photos without wires from email, a Flickr RSS stream and from an external media card. This means that once you have set it up, it stands alone and gets new photos sent to it automatically.

The Starling picture frame itself can check email by configuring a POP3 email account along with user name and password. After that, just send an email to the address with a JPEG or GIF file and the picture frame will catch it and add it to the rotation.
