Warner Bros. to rent movies digitally on Facebook

Posted in Facebook by Conner Flynn on March 8th, 2011

Can Facebook compete with Netflix when it comes to renting movies? Well, they are going to try. Warner Brothers has just announced that they will be offering video stream rentals of their movies through the online social network. Right now they have just one title available: The Dark Knight.

Users can rent a movie for 30 Facebook Credits ($3) and you get 48 hours to finish the movie. You can watch the movie through the site and still access Facebook functions while it is playing. More titles will arrive in the coming months, and The Dark Knight is just a test to see how popular it is.

Drive the Batmobile using your iPhone

Drive the Batmobile using your iPhoneYou may now pilot the Batmobile for the low price of $0.99, thanks to Glu Mobile and your iPhone/iPod Touch. You can mess around and drive through the Batcave, the streets of Gotham City and even rooftops.

It looks like more fun then any Bat-fan should be able to have for a dollar. According to Kotaku there’s only about a minute or so worth of gameplay, but still we’re talking a lousy buck here. It looks nicely put together and well thought though. So it will be an awesome minute.

Dark Knight Blu-rayBlu-ray won the HD format wars a bit less than a year ago. Since then Blu-ray has been adding features and updating the specifications for more interactivity and features. Many Blu-ray players are now Internet connected offering interactive features like BD-Live.

Warner Home Video has announced its first BD-Live enabled Blu-ray film is coming. The film is The Dark Knight, the latest Batman film that was the last performance of actor Heath Ledger. I saw the movie at the theater and it was fantastic.

Dark Knight throwing knives make dangerous stocking stabbers

Dark Knight throwing knives make dangerous stocking StabbersYou’ll notice, I didn’t say stuffers. You won’t want to stuff a stocking with these, but rather chuck them until you stab the stocking, so that everyone knows that the Batman was there, making for a chilling and very creepy Christmas morning.

The Twin Bat Throwing Knife Set is made of solid 440 stainless steel that can probably slice and dice the flesh of anyone you gift them too. Two authentic bat shaped throwers are included as well a nylon case with belt loop. They’re cheap at only $9.99. “The stockings were hung by Batman with glee, when he threw some Bat knives that nearly hit me….”

Rock the Bat Cave with the Batman Boombox

Posted in music by Conner Flynn on September 18th, 2008

Rock the Bat Cave with the Batman BoomboxHow does Robin crank up the tunes while Batman is out cleaning up the streets of Gotham? With Batman’s boombox of course. While it’s not shaped like a bat-wing or anything, it has a strange shape that resembles a…bat-something or other, with colors that go more with the comic books then the movies.

Features include such things as a tuner with LCD display, the ability to play CDs, CD-R and CDRW format, dynamic bass boost, line-in for portable MP3, player support, and top load media. It’s not hard to imagine Batman entertaining Catwoman one night and as he goes to put on some soft romantic tunes, the sound of Robin’s hardcore heavy metal deafens him as it sends bats flying everywhere. After a moment he switches CD’s, but sadly Catwoman’s purr is now gone. Such is the sad and lonely life of the Batman. Sigh.

Batman alarm clock radio with Bat-SignalWe’ve covered our share of Batman related gadgets, some good, some bad. But lately gadget makers seem to have rediscovered a long lost love for the Bat-Signal. They’re putting it on everything as if it were just invented in the latest movies. This strange looking clock is no exception.

This Dark Knight themed alarm clock radio features an AM/FM tuner and will also let you project the Bat-signal on your wall or ceiling. Some other features: 12/24 Hour Mode Display Time, Alarm function with 8 different melodies and tones, Adjustable Snooze Timer, AM/FM Radio Band, 180-degree rotation arm for front or back projection, AC Adaptor (included) or 4 AAA Batteries (not included). For $19.99 it’s a bargain for the kid in you.

Return of the USB-powered Batman spotlight

Return of the USB-powered Batman spotlight
We first told you about the Bat Signal spotlight back in March. But back then no one had seen the latest Dark Knight flick yet. So it’s only natural that we would see another version now that the movie has come out. In this DIY version, they’ve updated the Bat Symbol itself to the one from the new films.

See, that’s why Batman never showed up when you called. You were using an outdated bat symbol. This one looks much cooler. You’ll need a couple of old bottle caps, tinfoil(Some of you already have hats you can tear a piece off of), cheap USB light, small piece of clear plastic, cardboard, soldiering iron, hot glue gun, paint, and some time. Then you’ll be annoying your cubicle mates in no time.

Dark Knight Xbox 360 on eBay, will cost you
This rare Dark Knight Xbox 360 was spotted at the Microsoft game exhibition in Taiwan. Every self respecting nerd and his comic book dealer want to get their hands on it, but that just isn’t going to happen. Turns out there were only 110 made and it looks like the only way to get one is on ebay, where they seem to be going for $800 and up. It only comes with a 20GB hard drive and the same accessories as the $300 bundle. You better go find a money tree and shake it real hard. There’s always this thing.

Batman Learning laptop, for when you mate with Catwoman

Batman Learning laptop, for when you mate with Catwoman
Here’s an interesting laptop to get your child if you’ve recently spawned a next generation hero by getting it on with Catwoman or some other costumed freak. Or if your kid is named Robin and you dress him up in a tiny costume maybe. Oregon Scientific is making sure they get a slice of the Dark Knight pie, by offering your children this laptop sprouting bat wings. When closed it looks like Batman’s chest. Or as your child would say, “It look like dada” just before you leave for the next Comic Book convention.

C’mon people, even the kids in Gotham don’t sport Bat laptops. It’s known as the Batman Powerwing Laptop and runs on 3 x AA batteries for $89.99. If any of you adult geeks without kids get this thing for yourself, I suggest you don’t brag about it. For the rest of you, make sure that you let your kids play with it too.

Xbox 360 Dark Knight edition

Xbox 360 Dark Knight edition
And Dark Knight mania continues. If we aren’t spotting a DIY Tumbler or learning how Batman spends his nights, we are coming across some other Batman inspired Doodad.

In this case we’ve got an Xbox 360 under protective plastic with the Dark knight logo branded onto it. This is apparently a “limited edition” or one of a kind Dark Knight Xbox 360 shown off by Microsoft over in Taiwan. That’s about all we know. Zip,zero, zilch, nada. One can only drool and imagine batwing controllers.

DIY Tumbler built by one man, not Batman

DIY Tumbler built by one man, not Batman
Have a look at this thing. Can you believe it was built entirely by one man who is not Bruce Wayne? This is Bob Dullam’s replica of Batman’s Tumbler. It’s clearly the work of a mad genius. It looks awesome yes, but he didn’t skimp on the specs. It’s got the afterburner, the huge double-barrel wheels, and the body has all of the stealth angles.

As reference, he used only any and all images that would be available to you or me and the movies. And he did it in his garage. The neighbors must have thought he had gone a bit batty. And yes, he owns his own Bat suit as well.

The Dark Knight Bat-Signal projector key ring

Dark Knight Bat-Signal projector key ringSo you’re tired of being the Dark Nerd and want to try your hand at being the Dark Knight. You’ve got your replica bat armor and you’re using an old beat up tool shed for a batcave. But you need a key ring for the keys to the Batmobile. You know, that old dodge dart you painted black.

Well, just hang your keys on this. It will project the Bat-Signal whenever you need it. Only $16. You probably should get a new hobby as I’m pretty sure your city doesn’t need a new crime fighter. You’ll end up locked up in Arkham Asylum and eventually become some other dudes villain.

Enzyme Icare motorcycle: Ride like the Dark Knight
If you’re looking for gear that’s going to make you look like Batman, here’s another to add to the list. This one comes from a French design company called Enzyme.

It’s a kick-ass motorcycle concept that would look just right parked in the batcave. The Batpod is cool and all, but the Icare uses a huge 1.8 litre Honda flat 6 engine that should provide plenty of power. It’s a concept for the moment, but Enzyme has gotten some really out there concepts into production in the past. Great way to commute to work at Wayne Industries.

Paper-craft Batmobile Tumbler from The Dark Knight
The new Batman movie came out yesterday. I know many of you will be rushing to the theaters today. While I haven’t been able to see it yet and have a two hour nerdgasm, at least I can play with a paper version of the Dark Knight’s car. I’m talking papercraft! The design was created by paper model expert Claudio. With hundreds of individual pieces, this thing will keep you busy longer then the movie will.
