We already knew that Nao had the ability to dance, but check out this small Nao army all dancing together in preparation for some sort of musical apocalypse where they will dance on our graves.

I wonder if other bots will tune in and buy tickets to this cute, but terrible for us little number. Yes, this is what the Earth will look like when we are gone. Robot party time.

Well we made it to another Friday without being killed by a robot army. That’s always something. Over at Botropolis we continue to keep a watchful eye on all things robot. If they gain sentience we will know it. If they begin to dream, we will know it. But if they get us first and silence us, God help you all. Here’s some of what we covered this week:

Again, this is no big surprise. The Rolly was a $400 dancing egg. You do the math. But we can’t help wondering what Sony will dream up next to take its place. Maybe a little dancing and hopping cube. Think Rubik’s cube meets Disco.

If a Gremlin had sex with a bird, then decided to have a threesome with Keepon, then a Furby wandered by delivering a pizza and getting in on the action, this would be their bastard lovechild. It’s name is TOFU, a “squash and stretch” robot with OLED eyes developed by the boffins at the MIT Media Lab.

Tofu uses techniques of social expression that have been employed by 2D animators for ages, to explore the impact on robotics. One thing is for sure. That bot knows how to groove and puts most humans to shame with it’s dancing skills. The video above shows off his moves, which are strangely very pimp-like.

As always, WowWee has some new robots up it’s sleeve, despite branching out into other products. They look interesting as ever. What I like about their robots is that they actually infuse them with some personality.

In this case, Joebot is the large guy. A dancing rhythm robot that responds to beats. He’s the life of the party. The Roborover explorer on the other hand, starts out shy and gets bolder over time. I love the design on these guys. Full press release below.
