Acer Aspire 8940 boasts an 18.4 inch screen, Core i7 processorPacking a large LED-backlit 18.4-inch display, a Core i7 720QM processor, and Windows 7, the Aspire 8940 is ready to replace your desktop for $1350.

For that price you will also get 4GB of 1066-DDR3 memory, 500GB storage, 1GB Nvidia GeForce GTS 250M graphics, and a Blu-ray drive. On a laptop of this size you would expect an integrated TV tuner, but sadly there is none. As consolation you do get Acer’s touch-capacitive media control interface and surround sound via it’s 5 built-in speakers.

This latest model is powered by a 2GHz Core i7 920XM processor with a 15-inch full HD LCD display (1920 x 1080), 1GB nVidia GeForce GTX 260M graphics with up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM and a 500GB SATA hard drive or a 256GB SSD.

Some other specs include a Blu-ray burner, 9-cell battery, and even an optional TV tuner. The Alienware Core i7 M15x laptop in the basic configuration will retail for $1,499. Get one and do some serious gaming.

There are five new models in the Gamer Xtreme 1000 to 5000 series, which come with your choice of Core i5 750 (2.66GHz), i7 860 (2.80 GHz), or i7 870 (2.93 GHz) processors, and one of a variety of P55 chipset motherboards from companies like Gigabyte, ASUS, EVGA, and MSI.

You get all of the usual fully configurable options, with the usual expensive price tags, but the good news is that you can get in on the base level for only $749, which doesn’t hurt too much.

The good was that the machines offered more memory bandwidth and needed less power. The bad was that those looking to upgrade to the new platform couldn’t use memory already on hand.

Kingston has now announced its first 12GB triple channel DDR3 HyperX memory kit specifically for the Intel Core i7 platform. The kit includes three 4GB RAM modules and operates at 1600MHz. The RAM is optimized for XMP.

Intel Core i7A new CPU from Intel is big news around the PC enthusiast realm. Intel has introduced its latest Core i7 CPU that promises to deliver vastly superior performance compared to the previous generation of Intel processors.

According to Intel, the Core i7 parts deliver 40% more performance in processing intensive applications compared to the previous generation of processors. The CPU features Turbo Boost Technology that accelerates performance to match a computer user’s needs and the workload of the system at the time.

Alienware Area-51 x58The PC gaming world is all aflutter over the new Intel platform introduced this week that includes the Intel Core i7 CPU and X58 chipset. Many manufacturers are rolling out gaming and non-gaming machines using the platform.

Dell has announced a XPS gaming rig and a pair of Alienware machines that use the new Intel technology. The two Alienware machines are the Area-51 X-58 and the Area-51 ALX X-58. The Dell machine is the XPS 730x. The two Alienware machines can be optioned with RAID configurations and up to 12GB of RAM.

Kingston launches Intel X58/Core i7 triple channel RAM kits

Kingston Hyper X Triple Channel RAMEnthusiasts and computer geeks everywhere are waiting in anticipation for the latest Intel X58 chipset mainboards and the Intel Core i7 CPUs to hit the market. The X58 will be the first non-NVIDIA chipset mainboard to run SLI and has other interesting features.

One of the caveats of the new X58/Core i7 combo is that maximum voltage for RAM DIMMS has been lowered significantly from previous combinations. It’s not uncommon to see enthusiast RAM today require voltages over 2V. The X58/Core i7 combo can have a max of 1.65V for RAM.
