DJGO concept for the DJ on the Go
Kids these days and their crazy DJing. There’s always some new kid who wants to be the next big thing. The problem is, the amount of stuff they have to carry with them is insane. The DJ GO aims to help aspiring DJ’s with this portable DJing unit.

It’s a portable system that contains a pair of CD/ MP3 turntables and a mixer, all in a single unit which can be folded and carried in a bag. The hard drive will also help cut down the number of discs that need to be carried, and is capable of storing thousands of songs. The only thing missing, which you have to connect are the speakers.

FRAME TELE concept combines phone & photo frame

FRAME TELE concept synchronizes phone & photo frame
This device is a telephone that can be hung on the wall as a photo frame. Watch beautiful pictures of your family, or what the hell, even Brazilian fart porn if you’re so inclined. When the phone rings, the caller’s picture is shown on the screen. Even if you miss the call, the caller’s picture will be shown continuously, letting you know that you had a call.

The color of the transparent frame can be modified according to your whim. The concept supports USB and can be connected with the PC. To answer the phone just pick up the receiver on the frame. It can be hung on the wall or used on the desk.

Dell unveils tiny eco-computer concept

Dell unveils tiny eco-computer concept
This strange bamboo-encased eco-PC concept was unveiled at Fortune’s Brainstorm Green conference today. They’re saying it’s Dell’s smallest-ever computer. For comparison, it’s 81 percent smaller than a standard desktop and more importantly it uses 70 percent less power.

No info yet on what’s inside or an official name for that matter, but according to Dell the machine is scheduled to be released later this year, with a price between $500 and $700. I suppose if anyone can make people buy bamboo computers, it’s dell. Maybe they can bring the Dell dude back and instead of saying, “Dude I’m getting a Dell”, maybe he can say, “Dude, I’m getting wood”.

Eclosion pump up sofa concept

Eclosion pump up sofa concept
The Eclosion pump-up sofa is an interesting take on the futon/sofa-bed concept. Closed it looks like a yellow and black torpedo, opened up, it looks somewhat like a sofa. One side has a hidden air bladder that can be pumped up, which turns it from a small bed to a sofa that can hold a couple of people.

It was designed by Olivier Gregoire and yes it is basically just a fancy air filled futon, but I’m pretty sure that if it were available, the price would be un-futon like. Judging by looks alone, it seems like it would feel pretty weird just like a futon as well.

Virtual Wall concept protects pedestrians

Virtual Wall concept protects pedestrians
The idea behind Hanyoung Lee’s Virtual Wall concept is that plasma laser beams would assist pedestrians while they cross from one side to another, so they don’t have to worry about being run over. The light-formed force-field type barrier would keep cars and humans apart.

Many questions remain, like what happens if your car runs into it? Will you get a flat? Will it kill your engine like a UFO? Despite our lingering questions, we can’t wait for something like this to become reality. Mostly because we like shiny red plasma laser beams.

Elektrobit PDA style Satellite phone

Elektrobit PDA style Satellite phone
Sat phones used to be exclusively for rich Indiana Jones types. Elektrobit is hoping to change that with their new PDA-style satellite phone concept. It’s not only sleek, but they promise it will also be cost competitive with regular cell phones. Elektrobit didn’t skimp on functionality. It’s got Windows Mobile 6.1 professional, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, VoIP, touch screen, voice control, 3MP camera and both HSDPA and satellite connectivity.

You might notice the lack of an antenna on this one too. If this does come to market as planned in 2009, it’s sure to be a hit. It’s designed to be compatible with the Terrestar satellite network, which has not been launched yet. If the satellite network launches as planned they should do well with this one.

The Sound Hive concept by Oskar Daniel

The Sound Hive concept by Oskar Daniel
The Hive concept is a simulated surround sound speaker system which uses hexagonal honey comb speakers. It’s pleasing to the eye and each cell can pivot or turn for a truly unique customized audio experience.

Think about it this way. Currently, the market only has two options. You can either spread speakers around the room or invest in a sound bar which usually means a long bar housing anywhere between 8 to 30 small speakers pointing in every direction. The Hive takes the sound bar approach, but spices things up with design. Best of all, not many wires. The Hive has 2, one for power, and one to connect to your home entertainment system. Truly a nice concept. And it should confuse any bees that wander into your home.

Scroll concept device is out there

Scroll concept device is out there
If the scroll had survived biblical times, our devices would look a lot like this thing here. This is the so-called “Scroll” device created by 13 Tech Design. It’s packing a touchscreen-based cellphone, a 10 megapixel camera and 1080p camcorder, various media-playing features, built-in WiFi and Bluetooth, and a full-fledged computer that runs on Vista or XP.

If God chose to deliver a few more commandments, they would be written on this. Not stone. As far as concepts go, this one is pretty out there. I’m just not sure if we are ready to go back to the scroll.

Rain Forecasting Umbrella for Mary Poppins types

Rain Forecasting Umbrella for Mary Poppins types
Unless you own an old bowler hat, umbrellas really don’t go with anything. They’re just not very stylish, unless you are one Mary Poppins. Unfortunately umbrellas are pretty necessary if you want to stay dry. But weather is unpredictable. You often don’t know when an umbrella is required.

That’s where this concept umbrella from Materious comes in handy. It has an LCD handle that indicates the weather status by displaying different colored lights. White lighting indicates a sunny day and blue light indicates light rains. A dark blue hue indicates heavy showers. It can do this because the hub that the umbrella rests on gets it’s info through WiFi. You’ll always know when you should bring your umbrella with you.

Audi Snook, the smart one-wheeled car

Audi Snook, the smart one-wheeled car
How do I stop this crazy thing? The one-wheeled Audi Snook looks like a cross between a top and a…top with an Audi logo. I’m with you, it’s seems insane, but this auto-stabilized monowheel design concept won German student Tilmann Schlootz a Michelin Challenge Design Award 2008 at the Detroit Auto Show.

The entire interior is just a seat and a joystick. Doesn’t look like it has much leg room. Alright, so how on Earth does this vehicular lightbulb stay upright? “Agility through instability, controlled by artificial intelligence — that is my formal issue,” answers designer Schlootz. Um, thanks for clearing that up. I’ll stick with putting a spherical Michelin tire under my computer chair for now. It’s probably safer.

If space pirates had watches…

If space pirates had watches…
We’ve seen some crazy awesome watches lately. Like the UR-202 for instance. But the DeWitt Concept No. 1 is something else again. It’s a unique one-of-a-kind timepiece that’ll set you back a cool $633,000 if you have a pile of cash that’s burning a hole in your bank vault. It was bought from an auction, sight unseen.

What makes it so special? According to the creators of the watch, this “gothic pirate spaceship of a watch is taking the steampunk oeuvre to new heights with its expanding riveted case, flying tourbillon, five barrels and a 21 day power reserve.” Yes, they know that the way to a geek’s heart is through his wrist. Steampunk and the mention of Gothic pirates don’t hurt either.

Fujitsu’s wooden laptop concept

Fujitsu’s wooden laptop concept
This is Fujitsu’s idea of what a laptop should look like in the forest. Otherwise known as “We need to get on board with this whole environmental green thing. We’re missing out on a ton of hippie money, guys. We can charge more for it too.”

To me it is a bit too reminiscent of the old wood school desks and chairs. I look at this thing and I’m immediately wondering if I have any #2 pencils and if the substitute is going to be a hot babe today. I can’t see many people buying this. I’m not anti-wood, there’s just something strange about it. I suppose if the Amish suddenly start buying laptops and trading in their buggys for segways, I’ll be proven wrong. Until then, I don’t see much excitement about this concept.

TouchMan emotion cell phone concept

TouchMan emotion cell phone concept
The TouchMan cellphone concept is interesting because it can actually become a piece of furniture that allows you to communicate in a more personal way with others. That’s because the device allows for the visual sharing of emotions. Think of it as a combination screensaver, instant messenger and…aquarium.

That’s right, you can watch your contacts like fishes in an aquarium on the touchscreen. They would change color and activity according to their current moods and availability. Very bizarre indeed, but it has a lot of potential. The docking station will charge the main station and the cellphone at the same time, and when the cellphone is disconnected, the main device goes into a sleep mode.

DIY Easy Tiles concept phone

DIY Easy Tiles concept phone
Designer Tzu-Fu Wang has come up with the strange Easy Tiles concept phone. It’s an S60 based phone with a shell comprised of tiles. The idea is that you can customize the tiles with prints of your choice. They can be slid around like the old picture puzzle game. You can replace and update the tiles as often as you like.

The one pictured looks like a some sort of Rubik’s Cube theme. Thing is, I can’t help wondering what happens if you drop it. Does it turn into an exciting game of “let’s see how fast I can pick up dozens of small phone pieces now that I look like a dork whose phone scatters like an egg”?

LED watch made from real crystals

LED watch made from real crystals
This is inspired by the Swarovsky Signity watches, and this timepiece by designer Ilya Yakovlev has a surface made from real crystals that are backlit by LEDs.

One interesting feature is that you can increase the luminosity and change the colors to suit your mood. As far as I can tell, it’s a concept that we probably won’t see for a long time yet, but it is interesting. I think it probably would need more functions aside from just being a watch. They should look great in the dark.
