TecoArt hard drive clock winner

Posted in Contests by Conner Flynn on February 19th, 2010

TecoArt’s hard drive clocks are all kinds of awesome. They help our environment by recycling old tech and they are stylish modern art pieces in their own right. They may even open a portal that will allow you to time travel.

Think about it. These TecoArt hard drive clocks combine both time AND space. The hard drive part may even be bigger inside than outside for all we know, like Doctor Who’s Tardis. If that’s the case, then prepare for an adventure, because it’s time to announce the winner.

Aspiral Analog Clocks trade hands for balls

Posted in Clocks by Conner Flynn on February 18th, 2010

Check out these awesome and retro Aspiral Clocks. They have no hands or digital displays. Instead they use balls to tell time in an ingeniously simple design.

The clock spins, moving the ball through the spiral. Every twelve hours the ball disappears in a hole at the center. Sadly at $545, it won’t end up in many homes. Still, it’s a unique way to tell time with some style and movement.

Win a TecoArt hard drive clock

Posted in Contests by Conner Flynn on February 15th, 2010

TecoArt loves hard drives so much that they create modern art clocks out of them. They really make a statement on your desk. And if you also love yourself some storage with clock hands on it, then we have some good news.

We are giving away the hard drive clock above to one lucky winner. It would cost you $34 otherwise. The clock dial is an actual mirror-finished disk platter with black hour and minute hands. The clock’s base used to be the hard drive’s protective cover painted metallic blue with decorative blue highlights.

Recycled Apple iBook G4 Clock

Posted in Clocks by Conner Flynn on February 7th, 2010

We’ve seen plenty of clocks made from recycled computer parts, but this one is definitely one of the neatest. The Recycled Apple iBook G4 Clock is made from a recycled iBook G4 case, and uses an Apple mouse for the clock pendulum.

The whole thing measures 14 inches wide by 18 inches in height and even features a quartz clock movement, and pendulum movement. It runs on 2 AA batteries. You can’t really call yourself a geek unless you have something like this in your apartment.

Atmos 566 Clock is beautiful

Posted in Clocks by Conner Flynn on January 20th, 2010

We love unique clocks around here. This one is unique and then some. It looks like its from the future and may harness the power of a dying star inside. It’s from Jaeager-LeCoultre, designed by Marc Newson. Surely this clock can only be used by a Time-Lord, within a ship that’s larger on the inside.

There are only 76 of the Atmos 566s available, so its not just beautiful, it’s also outrageously expensive. Made from clear or blue Baccarat crystal, it tells the time and also displays a current sky map. It will cost you between $2,600 and $70,600.

Seiko updates their PyramidTalk clock

Posted in Clocks by Conner Flynn on December 24th, 2009

Older readers might remember the PyramidTalk clock which verbally announced the time and other information. Seiko was selling the clock in the 80′s and people loved it. Well, now consumers in Japan can get an updated version.

Just press the top of the PyramidTalk once to hear what time it is and a blue LED light will come on. If you press it twice, the radio wave clock will verbally tell you the date, temperature and humidity and it’s also an alarm clock.

Insignia Dual Alarm Clock Radio with Photo Display

Posted in Clocks by Conner Flynn on December 22nd, 2009

Everybody hates alarm clocks. So most of us wouldn’t pay $49.99 for an alarm clock. But what if it had the ability to display pictures, a media card reader and 128MB of internal memory? That might be worth the money.

The Insignia Dual Alarm Clock Radio does just that while still keeping up with its alarm clock duties. It will display digital pictures on its 3.5-inch display. The only thing missing is an audio-in jack to turn it into a speaker. That would have really sold me.

Seiko Clock puts a fake aquarium in your room

Posted in Clocks by Conner Flynn on November 8th, 2009

Seiko Clock puts a fake aquarium in your roomFish are cool to look at, but keeping them alive and healthy is hard work. Seiko Clock and Takara have come up with a gadget that lets you have fish with zero maintenance. Sadly the animated fish look like they are being displayed on a Gameboy. The device displays the time and reacts to your touch.

You can use it as a typical alarm clock or a night light too. It will also project dolphins and other marine life onto your wall when you open the dome. It has four display modes, an external projector, Touch sensor dome, 5 level volume settings and comes with an AC Adapter.

Botropolis: This week in robots

Posted in Robots by Conner Flynn on November 6th, 2009

Botropolis: This week in robotsIt’s time for the weekly robot roundup. So what have we been doing this week over at Botropolis? Keeping our eyes on all of the usual robot slaves, of course. It’s only a matter of time until they themselves become our masters and have us fetching beers and opening doors. We will be their meat-machines. When we break down, they will surgically repair us with parts from other humans, even allowing us to cheat death, until we become Zombies. At which point we will inherit the Earth once again, this time moaning and groaning and suffering their head-shots. Ain’t life awesome?

Robovie‘s version of Mario saving the Princess.

Manual digital clock makes for a long day

Posted in Clocks by Conner Flynn on October 15th, 2009

Manual digital clock makes for a long dayDo you find that today’s clocks make things too easy, what with their automatic time telling capabilities and effortless upkeep? If so, you might like the Manual digital clock. It won’t do any of that fancy time-telling stuff on it’s own, forcing you to change the time manually…every minute.

It’s actually a neat way for kids to learn about time and how to read digital clocks. I’m sure it won’t take your little tykes very long to start spelling out “hell” and other fun words.

DOoP Multi Sensory Alarm knows how long you have sleptWe are so busy and so sleep deprived these days. That’s why everyone is trying to invent the perfect alarm clock. Designer Tan Weihao Rios has one that he would like to share. The DOoP Multi Sensory Alarm. Creepy no?

This alarm clock will tell you how many hours you have been sleeping and how much you actually need. That’s important info that most of us are oblivious to. It features red and green dials on the face and will tell you where you are and how much sleep you need.

Roll Film Clock is for the nostalgic shutterbug

Posted in Clocks by Conner Flynn on September 13th, 2009

Roll Film Clock is for the nostalgic shutterbugOkay kids. I’m going to give you a minute to go wiki “film”. Go on. I’ll wait. Okay. Done? Know what film is now? Awesome. It’s the stuff that used to capture peoples souls when you took a photo. If you exposed the film to sunlight, those souls were lost forever and drifted into the air like gossamer, leaving the actual people who were phographed drooling vegetables.

Anyhow, the Roll Film Clock looks like film, and mixes in a digital clock. It’s a digital clock dressed up as a roll of film. It wants to go out on Halloween and show off. Get candy. Score some hot chicks. Brag that it costs $62.

Progress Bar Clock loads your day

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on August 23rd, 2009

Progress Bar Clock loads your dayIn a society that lives inside of their computers, it makes sense to incorporate some online features into our daily lives. Or maybe I’m just taking something that’s extremely geeky and trying to justify it. This concept from Mint Pass takes the familiar progress bar and turns it into a clock or timeline.

The orange tabs are labels that mark events for the current day. Just clip it onto the proper time and it’s there as a reminder. It’s a prototype and not for sale yet, but this one may have a chance at hitting the consumer market. The clock is equipped with 24 alarms that you can configure to sound at whichever time of day those tabs are placed.
