Citizen has announced a new Bluetooth watch, the AIBATO M. What’s interesting about this one is that it wirelessly connects to your cellphone and can, with selected handsets, remotely trigger the camera, browse emails and show call and message alerts. It comes in two colors. Black (with a rubber strap) and silver (with a metal strap).

The watches charge using an included desk-stand. A full battery is good for up to five days. It will give you audio and visual alerts and can even vibrate. Various Sharp and Softbank handsets are supported, but it’s unclear whether it will also work without the more complex camera control on other devices.

These Independent Retrograde Dualtime watches from Citizen are simple with an amazingly modern design. I hope watchmakers pay attention to this one. Judging by looks alone, they might have been designed in the 60’s or today. In other words, it’s a timeless style, that would be hip in any era.

They come in either a polished stainless steel or gold and black finish. What’s interesting is the face of course, featuring an analog watch face using digital for the hours, and an L-shaped 24-hour clock. This kind of style is never cheap. They’ll cost you $242 and $271.

To quote Dave Bowman from the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, “My God, it’s full of stars!”. A whole watch face that looks like the cosmos? Count me in. The Astrodea collection from Citizen looks sweet. The watch face has a 35° view of the heavens as seen from the Northern Hemisphere, which rotates in real time, showing 1,109 stars and 169 cluster galaxies. It has other features that include measurements like equinox indications, constellation markers, location of the sun, solar position, sunrise and sunset times and the daily duration of sunshine. That might be too much info for me, I just dig the looks.

It comes in both a blue or gold face version, with stainless steel case and band with non-reflective sapphire glass. And since the face is so detailed, it even has a 10x magnifier for close-up inspection. Both versions are available for $585.

Citizen’s Eco-Drive line of watches run on natural sunlight as well as any artificial light absorbed through the crystal and dial. They claim that it converts any kind of light into electrical energy and that runs the watch. As long as it gets regular exposure to light, the watch will continuously recharge itself for a lifetime. The Radio-Controlled aspect comes into play with the ability to have radio synchronization on demand, or you can let the watch do the synch automatically.

The Citizen Alterna VO10-6573H features a durable aluminum case and is water-proof up to 100m. The watch is 10.2mm thick and only weighs 104g, with an accuracy +/- 15 seconds a month . It’s got a nice eye catching design overall, which it better have, since it will cost you $339.
