Kindle 2 Cinese knock off spottedIf you’ve been waiting with bated breath for a proper Kindle 2 knock-off, the Chinese have answered your prayers with this one that looks just like the Kindle. The device will arrive in Japan by the end of 2009, and the price tag will be around $210. The device will have a built-in cellular modem with SIM card.

The company, Peking University Founder, offered no further specs, but we would really like them to explain just what the hell their name means. Shady gadgets, shady names. I suppose they want to make you feel safe, as if the founder of Peking University endorses this thing.

The Chinese create fake Apple NetbookYou could always just wait for Apple to release its first netbook, but you may be in for a long wait. But if you’re in China, turns out you can now get one. Manufacturers in Shenzhen got sick of waiting and created their own netbook. Like any copycat, they had to make some adjustments to the design, ike the inverted fruit on the top cover.

When it comes to specs, the WF188 actually isn’t too shabby. It features a 10-inch LED display with a resolution of 1024 x 576, a 1.3Ghz Via Nano processor with the VIA VX855 chipset, and a max of 2GB RAM. You can choose between a 160GB hard drive or up to 64GB SSD. Bluetooth, 802.11b/g wireless, and 3.5G HSDPA connectivity.

Oracle watch is confusing, looks cool

Oracle watch is confusing, looks coolThe Oracle Watch is a pretty slick looking digital watch. It mixes the ancient art of telling time with the ancient Chinese philosophy of I Ching. Though I think the maker was thinking more about the ancient art of “Ka-ching I got your money”. How it works, I have no idea. It’s all pretty confusing. I think the basic idea is that it’s a fancy Magic 8-Ball for your wrist. It will guide you and share it’s wisdom, secure in the knowledge that they got your money. Still, it’s a pretty sweet looking watch.

Star Wars lightsaber chopsticks

Star Wars lightsaber chopsticks
If you think eating with chopsticks is hard, why not practice with a cool pair? Like these lightsaber chopsticks for instance. Don’t worry, they won’t slice everything they come into contact with.

They will make you eat Chinese food with all of the nerd grace of a Jedi though. They were made by Kotobukiya and shown off at the Star Wars Celebration in Japan a few weeks ago. I would imagine that two Jedis dining in the same restaurant would immediately recognize these and size each other up, then fight or not fight depending on lightsaber color.

Nokia camera phone language translator

Nokia camera phone language translator
Nokia recently showcased a cool new app for Nokia mobile phones. The app is named shoot-to-translate and it translates from Chinese to English by taking a photo of the Chinese text that you want to read. This is super handy for those frequent travellers who have no idea how to read the local language.

You won’t have to worry about flipping through some translation book. You’ll know quickly what it says. Though the application shows only Chinese to English translation, we are obviously going to see the ability to do more languages in the future.

Google co-owned Chinese firm sued over movies

Google co-owned Chinese firm sued over movies
Six American film studios have filed a lawsuit against the Chinese file-sharing firm Xunlei Networking Technology for copyright infringement. They were offering hundreds of movie downloads illegally. The firm is part owned by Google. The studios are seeking more than $1 million in damages and costs, according to the Motion Picture Association, though that seems a low number.

The MPA trade group said in a statement on Friday that in addition, the plaintiffs are seeking a public acknowledgement of the infringements and a pledge from Xunlei to stop them. The MPA said that Xunlei facilitated the unauthorised transmission of hundreds of Hollywood movies produced by its members, like “Spiderman 3,” “War of the Worlds” and “Miami Vice.”(Who the hell watches Miami Vice? Now that they have, I assume they have learned their lesson. Some movies aren’t worth the trouble.)

“Sport” Vii 2 Wii rip-off video review

“Sport” Vii 2
The cheap knock-off game console market seems to be high gear lately, what with the Polystation 3 and px-3600 console. We first told you about the Vii back in October. Well, it looks like our british friend who reviewed the Polystation, just got himself a KenSingTon Sport Vii 2.

You can watch his video review after the jump and explore the strange bizzarro world of crap knock-offs. Among the games on the GBA type cartridge, are a few that involve some sort of mutated rabbits. And as bad as these rip-offs are, you have to admit that they at least provided some color on the Vii-mote unlike Nintendo’s white. Though it does resemble some sort of weird long squid.

Console ripoff of the day: the PolyStation 3

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on February 4th, 2008

The PolyStation 3
Here’s another cheap Chinese knock-off that fell off the back of the truck recently. I thought the PX-3600 was bad…These ripoff consoles are just getting stranger and stranger. This one may look like a PS3, but that’s where the similarities end.

First, it’s tiny and comes in clamshell packaging. You don’t even plug it into a television, and it’s got a little screen that pops out of the side. Yes, just like all of the other knock-offs, this one has the personality of a wet fart trapped in a paper bag. Check out a video review after the jump.
