Nokia points out that it did not build the chargers, they were built by a third-party Chinese maker. That maker is paying all the costs associated with the recall. The recall covers chargers model number AC-3E and AC-3U models, manufactured between June 15, 2009 and August 9, 2009; and the AC-4U model, manufactured between April 13, 2009 and October 25, 2009.

The case features a 3.7 V lithium-ion battery that can be charged via the sun or by USB should it be cloudy. It comes in a bunch of colors. We aren’t sure if they have chargers for the other iPods, but at least your Touch is covered.

Solar Technology unveils universal CamCaddy camera chargerSolar Technology’s CamCaddy universal camera charger is already available in a bundle with the company’s Freeloader Pro solar charger, but now it’s available by itself. The charger isn’t 100% “universal”, but the company says it should be compatible with over 85% of the proprietary batteries used in digital cameras, camcorders and DSLRs, and if you are unsure, just check their website before you buy.

The charger is also of course still fully compatible with the Freeloader and Freeloader Pro, and it comes with a car adapter, a USB charging cable, and US and Euro plug adapters so you should be covered.

Wii Ultimate Power Station

Posted in Wii Accessories by Conner Flynn on August 11th, 2009

We can’t decide is this is neat or completely stupid. The Wii Ultimate Power Station is a Wii and Wiimote dock that aims to keep everything organized and protect your console. It cools your Wii and has some extra outputs, will charge two Wiimotes and even hold the nunchuks. There’s even a clock.

But it seems like overkill and takes your thin console and makes it all beefed up and fat. We aren’t sure if there’s really a need for this. Or if it will even fit in the spots that our Wiis occupy. This one leaves us feeling kinda weird. What do you guys think?

A company called MotionTouch has announced a new charger for the iPhone that is eco-friendly and charges by light. The device has a solar cell on the back of the sleeve that can gather power from some ambient lighting and from the sun.

Kenyan students charge cellphones with pedal power

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on July 26th, 2009

Kenyan students charge cellphones with pedal powerThis DIY gadget is dubbed the “smart charger” and it’s from two Kenyan students who reside in rural areas without electricity. They also use bikes to get around. Jeremiah Murimi and Pascal Katana use a dynamo attached to the bicycle in order to charge cellphone batteries. The whole process costs practically nothing.

They used parts from old discarded radio and television sets to assemble the small charger. The user is able to plug the dynamo lead right into the device. An hour of pedaling can fully recharge the battery in about the same time it would take if it was plugged into an electrical outlet. The idea is that the user would avoid paying $2 each time for battery recharges by making a one-time smart charger purchase worth about $4.50.

Easy Quick Jumper jump starts your car

Easy Quick Jumper jump starts your carMany of us have been there. You leave your lights on and next thing you know your battery is dead. Not a problem as long as you have jumper cables and another vehicle. Or if you are on a hill you can pop the clutch. But it stinks having to open the hood and go through all of that.

The Easy Quick Jumper will help you out. Just plug between the cigarette adapters of two cars, the car with the good battery is turned on and 5-10 minutes later, your dead battery has a charge. That’s far easier than messing with jumper cables.

Battery powered battery charger

Battery powered battery chargerA battery charger powered by a battery. You will be free and untethered, assuming you have some D-sized batteries to power it. Isn’t this like robbing Peter to pay Paul? Or robbing Duracell to charge Energizer. Something like that.

It “Uses up to 1000 disposable batteries”. How can you resist? This must have been dreamed up by battery manufacturers to sell more D batteries. I can’t remember the last time I used a D battery myself. We have no idea where to buy one. If you have this gadget let us know. It’s probably a joke. Well, we know it’s a joke, but you know…

Steam powered iPod charger

Steam powered iPod chargerOne day after the robots have had their way with us and the zombies have attacked, you’ll be glad you have your trusty steam powered iPod charger. How else are you going to listen to your tunes, with civilization as you know it destroyed?

The creator attached a Lego Technic Motor to a Jensen #75 steam engine to make this crude generator. Then he built a 5V regulator circuit and soldered in a female USB connection to power any USB device. The end result is a steam powered iPod charger. What does this mean? This guy will be chilling with tunes while you are fending off zombies who want some brain food.
