Guy covers car in Apple stickersYou can spot the true Apple fanboys when you see them. Sometimes they are born with the mark of the beast Steve. Sometimes they have the Apple logo spanked onto their skin. In this case, some guy went crazy sticking Apple stickers all over his car.

One thing. Sticking Apple stickers all over one’s car doesn’t make you the biggest Apple fanboy. It just makes you the biggest Apple fanboy with the most stickers and a fugly ride.

Car Bluetooth speaker fits inside your steering wheel

Posted in Bluetooth by Conner Flynn on January 21st, 2009

Car Bluetooth speaker fits inside your steering wheelIf your car isn’t new enough to have Bluetooth integration, this Steering Wheel Bluetooth Adapter may be the perfect solution. It fits around the inner part of a steering wheel with some options for size adjustment. For $63 the adapter sports a microphone and speakers for speakerphone, an LCD display for incoming callers, SD port for MP3s, USB and FM-out so you can play everything back through your car’s stereo.

There is a catch however, the adapter’s power source is your car’s cigarette lighter. You would be connecting your steering wheel to the lighter. Which could be a safety hazard. Unless it’s rechargeable. In that case don’t charge it while driving.

Eee PC gets modded into a carIt’s been awhile since we’ve seen a good car mod. The last one was an Xbox 360 modded into a Suzuki. Now, thanks to some crazy Ruskie hacker, an Eee PC gets crammed into an automobile dashboard. He’s posted an article showing how to take a 7 inch Eee PC apart and turn it into a carputer that hooks into an auto stereo system and it even acts as a graphic equalizer.

The finished product is a computer in your car with 1GB of RAM, 4GB of built in storage plus an 8GB SDHC card, a 7 inch, 800 x 480 pixel display, Bluetooth, a slot-loading DVD-RW drive, GPS, 5.1 channel audio, a touschreen, and a boatload of USB adapters that string the whole thing together.

Blaupunk & miRoamer want to put Internet Radio in your CarThis year’s CES will see Blaupunkt and miRoamer put Internet radio into car dashboards for the first time. According to miRoamer founder and CEO George Parthimos, “miRoamer’s development with Blaupunkt is the first seamless Internet radio solution. With the simple push of a button, users can access AM/FM stations or Internet radio’s thousands of music, entertainment, news and talk stations from around the world, all from the same car stereo.”

The first model will connect to a 3G/HSDPA/HSPA device via Bluetooth for Internet connectivity. When connecting to the Internet from an external device (Like an iPhone), the customer’s existing service provider is the default network. They have various models in the pipeline which may have their own internal modem.

Xbox 360 modded car

Xbox 360 modded carApparently, this modder hated the thought of leaving his console home alone while he was out and about in the world. Separation anxiety no doubt. Yes, this is an Xbox 360 Console and the Controllers Modded in a car! An Xbox 360 in a car, you ask? Yes. And look how well the car and the Xbox get along. It’s like they were meant for each other.

The XBox 360 has been embedded in to the dash while 1 controller rests in the steering wheel and the other sits comfortably in front of the gear shift. It’s a great idea, but the one fatal flaw is that at some point, you will have to park that car and walk away. At which time a thief throws a rock through the window and makes off with your console. It really is a beauty though.

VR3 Bluetooth Steering Wheel Console for hands free chatting

Posted in Automotive by Conner Flynn on December 28th, 2008

VR3 Bluetooth Steering Wheel Console for hands free chattingIn many states you aren’t supposed to hold a cell phone while driving. It’s the law. I once saw a teenage girl talking on her phone while driving a pick up truck, run straight into a parked car. There was nothing else around her for miles. She was simply distracted and didn’t have her focus on driving. This VR3 Bluetooth Steering Wheel Console might help those who have trouble doing two things at once.

It gives you hands free wireless chatting directly in front of you, with a design that keeps your hands on the wheel for safety. Sure, it’s ugly as hell, but so is an ambulance ride or a mangled corpse. It’s only $99.99.

Fusion CA-IP500 Car Stereo eats your iPodCar stereos that are also iPod-friendly are nothing new. Thing is, we’re mostly talking about a dock, with your iPod sitting in front for thieves to spot. The CA-IP500 from Fusion Electronics is different. The face flips open so you can insert your iPod like you would a Cassette tape.

The device will work with the iPod Touch Gen1 & 2, the iPod Classic Gen5, 6 & 7 and the iPod Nano Gen2,3 & 4. Once in it’s slot, you control the iPod via joystick and touch wheel, just like on the iPod. You’ll also get a dot matrix OLED display, SRS Wos sound shaping, AM/FM tuner, 7-band equalizer, security code, aux-in port and of course it will charge your player while it’s inside. It will cost you $349, so while it isn’t cheap, it may help you avoid a broken window and a missing iPod.

Car key stops teenagers from using mobile phones while driving

Car key stops teenagers from using mobile phones while drivingThere’s nothing worse then a driver who is too busy running their mouth on a cellphone and not paying attention to the road. Or the other cars. Teenage drivers in particular love to get distracted by their mobile phones. Well, University of Utah engineers have designed a wireless car key device that stops users from talking on their cell phone or sending text messages while behind the wheel.

Each driver of a car will have a separate key device. When the key is extended from the device, it emits a signal that puts the teenagers phone in “Driving Mode,” so that they can’t use it and kill you. In driving mode the phone will display a stop sign and hopefully the death loving teen will get in the habit of leaving the phone alone while driving.

BMW uses Microsoft Surface

Microsoft’s Surface technology has many uses, but one interesting way to use it is how it is being used by BMW. Here is a video that shows you how rich slobs can explore BMW cars with just their delicate and un-calloused fingers

“The Ultimate Driving Machine” being optimized with “BMW Product Navigator”. The touch screen system lets snooty BMW buyers configure their new car in a whole new interactive way. The exteriors and the interiors can be reviewed even before the car is purchased. That includes the color of the car.

Guy turns Prius into Star Trek shuttle

Guy turns Prius into Star Trek shuttleThis is about a year old, but it’s cool. This guy turned his Prius into a Star Trek Shuttle, basically just using decals and adding blue lights under the car. Interesting how the Prius’ shape lends itself to a Star Fleet shuttle. Inside the car, he has it set up so he can add sound effects. This is a mod with minimum customization, that just about anybody can pull off. I wonder if his garage looks like the hanger deck and has one of these parked inside.

1973 GT Opel Batmobile is one odd Bat-carAccording to the description on this eBay auction, some nutty doctor in California took a 1973 GT Opel and converted it into a Batmobile to bring to the hospital for kids. The kid part is a noble idea. But a 1973 Opel? It’s unique, we have to give him that.

The auction ended at $9,000.00. Some of the specs include: a SONY Digital Navigation System #NVX-F160, SONY Pre-Amp XDP-U50D, SONY 10 Disk CD Changer CDX-U404, SONY Hi-8 VCR, Pioneer CD player DEH-85 in the dash….comes with the batman theme on cd!, Alpine Bat Phone #91530, Super Nintendo NES Game system with Batman Forever game, SONY Interface Equalizer #XE-744 and a whole lot more. Strange, but we dig it.

Helios Off-Roader inspired by the Jurassic era

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on November 6th, 2008

Helios Off-Roader inspired by the Jurassic eraHelios was clearly inspired by the Jurassic era, when dinosaurs ruled the Earth. Helios is a concept design for an off-road electric solar-powered vehicle. When you take a break from your off-roading and stop the vehicle, the car will spread its “wings” which are made of photovolatic panels, in order to capture the sun’s rays and charge up the battery.

You’ve seen the concept in nature, where some animals have stretchable skin that absorb heat and light. A lizard might stop on a rock to take a breather and as he does, he opens up his extra skin and recharges. Same thing here. The Helios Concept won the Best Use of Technology at the Interior Motives Design Awards 2008. Pretty awesome.
