Toshiba Camileo S20, H30, and X100 camcorders finally land in US

We heard about the Toshiba line of camcorders way back in September of 2009. I’m not sure what took the things so long to land in the US, but Toshiba has announced that the cameras are finally available here.

The line includes the Camileo S20, H30, and X100 camcorders. The S20 is a tiny camcorder 0.67″ thick and weighing only 3.5 ounces. It has a 4x digital zoom, direct YouTube upload button, and a 5MP CMOS sensor. It can record in 1080p resolution.

JVC Everio GZ-HM1 ships

JVC has started shipping the Everio GZ-HM1 camcorder which handles native 1080p video capture and has the ability to capture in low light conditions with its 10.6-megapixel, back-illuminated CMOS sensor. The sensor works in lighting as dim as four lux while being sensitive to light sensitivity as high as ISO 6,400.

The HM1 will also boast manual controls that can override aperture, bracketing and shutter speed when you need to. It comes with 64GB of internal memory that can be expanded by another SDHC memory card.

JVC unveils HM550 Everio camcorder

JVC has pulled the wraps off a new Everio camcorder that offers 1080p video resolution and a 10.6MP CMOS sensor. The camera can shoot still images and record video.

One of the most interesting features is that the camera has Bluetooth. This lets the camera interface with Bluetooth headsets and lets smartphones act as a remote for the camera. Video is stored to 32GB of internal storage and the camera has a SD/SDHC slot for expansion.

The GoBandit HD GPS camcorder offers 720p HD video recording capability, is waterproof and comes with a lens that rotates. It also has built-in GPS which shows your current and maximum speed as well as altitude on a 3D map. Pretty neat.

If you like you can attach it to a helmet, goggles or other equipment. It weighs just 145 grams. Great for those with an active lifestye. The GoBandit HD GPS camcorder will retail for about $400 when it becomes available.

Sanyo shows off new GH2, CG102, and CD60 camcorders

Sanyo has been making cameras for a while now that take still shots and digital video. The company also has its fingers in all sorts of other product categories in the consumer electronics market. The company has unveiled three new camcorders including the GH2, CG102, and CG20 camcorders.

The GH2 can record full HD video at 60 fps and take 14MP still shots. It has 5x optical zoon and a 12x double zoom range. It is compatible with SDHC and SDXC memory cards and has a 2.7-inch LCD. It will sell for $229 starting in March. The CG102 can record 1080p video and 14MP still shots. It has the same zoom range as the GH2, same screen size, and many of the same features. It even sells for the same $229 price.

JVC Everio GZ-HM340 HD camcorder with 16GB of internal storage

The newest member of the JVC Everio camcorder family is the GZ-HM340, with 16GB of internal Flash memory, a 20x optical Konica Minolta zoom lens, 1.37 megapixel CMOS sensor and image stabilization.

Some other features include one-touch upload to YouTube, face detection and an SD / SDHC expansion slot. This camcorder is set to arrive later this month for $500. We aren’t sure if it captures anything other than AVCHD or not.

Small camcorders like the Flip line and the myriad of other cheap and pocketable camcorders on the market are very popular. A new camcorder turned up during CES this month that we missed with the glut of new gear hitting the market.

The camcorder is called the Ion Twin Video. The camera has a lens on the front and the back that allows the user to record themselves and a subject at the same time. You could use the camera to record interviews or a game and your reaction to the game.

Kodak was busy showing off some new products at CES. The first is the ‘Slice’ touchscreen camera, which comes with a 3.5 inch rear display, 5x optical zoom, 14mp sensor, image stabilization, and 30fps 720p video capture. It can take up to 5000 images and also sports a new direct-tag feature.

The Pulse digital photo frame features Wi-fi, 512 MB storage and a 7 inch display to view images at 800×600 pixels. Then there’s the Playsport Camcorder, which is rugged enough to endure some extreme situations. It supports HD recording, has a 2 inch LCD, 5 MP still shots, smart face tracking and SD/SDHC card slots. It also has a HDMI output and supports USB.

Easy Shot Clip camcorder weighs just 18g, measures 2 inches long

The $70 Easy Shot Clip camcorder from Concord Keystone measures just 2-inches in length and an inch in width and weighs just 18 grams. Of course it isn’t the most powerful camcorder, with a VGA resolution quality of 640 x 480 pixels, but it does shoot sound in 30fps.

It can record up to 2 hours of video on it’s 2GB of flash memory and charges via USB, playing nice with either Windows 7, Vista or XP, or Max OS X 10.4.7 or later.

Yashica DVC525HD Camcorder

Yashica DVC525HD CamcorderThis may not be the most powerful camera on the market and you won’t find a ton of fancy features, but if you’re looking for a cheap camcorder, this may be the one for you. The Yashica DVC525HD is at least worth a look as it will only cost you 9980 Yen (or $111).

It will record videos in AVI format at 720p and it boasts an internal 128MB of memory along with support for SDHC cards up to 16GB. Great price if you don’t need a lot of features.

Other features include 30x optical zoom and 200x digital zoom, a 2.7-inch LCD screen and it will upload videos easily to YouTube. You also get a microSD/SDHC slot, USB and HDMI ports.

Greenhouse launches camcorder for womenHere’s yet another gadget aimed at women from a company who thinks that making it look like a cute little purse will have them selling like hotcakes. It looks soft and frilly and goes with your bag so of course you’ll love it right? Probably not.

Japan-based electronics maker Greenhouse has announced the GHV-DV30HDLXW/P today, a video camera specifically designed for women. Obviously. It’s available in two colors, white and…pink. Buyers will also get a cute pouch to match the color of the camera.

Tachyon XC Micro helmet cam breaks cover

There are also sports where just getting film of someone crashing or doing something stupid is fun to watch. Whatever the case may be, Tachyon has unveiled new and very small camcorder that it claims to be the world’s smallest helmet cam.

The camera is called the XC Micro and it measures 3.8 x 1.4 x 1.8 and weighs 3.7 ounces. It can be attached to goggles, helmets, dashboards and other locations for filming. Power is from a pair of AAA batteries and lasts for four hours of shooting.

Memorex unveils MyVideo camcorder

memorexmyvideoWith the success of the Flip line of compact and cheap camcorders, there are lots of other manufacturers jumping into the market with very similar products. The latest of these products is the Memorex MyVideo camcorders. Both an HD and a non-HD version are available.

The devices have integrated USB ports and one-touch recording. Editing software is included for uploading of video to sharing websites like Facebook and YouTube. The camcorder can also play video directly to a TV set and can capture still shots as well as video.
