Posted in BlackBerry by Conner Flynn on July 13th, 2011

RIM has announced that BlackBerry App World has finally reached 1 billion downloads, and that BlackBerry owners are now downloading over 3 million apps per day. This comes after BlackBerry launched App World just over two years ago, and users in 100 countries around the world have been downloading applications ever since.

Just for the sake of comparison, Apple’s iOS App store recently reached 15 billion downloads, while Google’s Android Marketplace hit 4.5 billion downloads a while back. Still, it gives RIM something to be happy about.

BlackBerry App World launching April 1Time to mark your calendars Crackberry users. According to BusinessWeek, RIM will be launching the BlackBerry App World April 1 at CTIA. RIM’s answer to the iTunes App Store. We’re pretty sure Businessweek isn’t getting an early start on April fools day. RIM’s starting price for apps (not including freebies) is $2.99, vs. Apple’s 99¢.

The move should be a good test of RIM’s true potential and consumers are desperate for BlackBerry apps like those on the iPhone. There’s been some controversy over the pricing, but we don’t think the price will turn users off at all. You tell us.
