This isn’t really a surprise since most of you reading this are probably just taking a breather between Prestige levels, but Black Ops has now sold more than Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Planescape Torment, Super Mario Galaxy and basically any other blockbuster game.

The information comes from NPD. The folks at Treyarch are surely celebrating. Now comes the hard part. Having to outdo themselves and make an even better game so they can do it again and celebrate some more.

Activision considering closing PS3 Black Ops servers

An Activision support representative has suggested that Activision may be considering or has considered the possibility of closing PS3 Black Ops servers due to problems reported by players. If you play Black Ops on the PS3, then you know those problems very well.

A refund petition was started last year and had 8,800 signatures after 5 weeks. Players are complaining of frame rate issues, disconnects, lagging and hard freezes and other problems. I don’t know about you, but I play all the time and while there are problems, I spend 99% of my time just playing and enjoying flawless games.

Call of Duty multiplayer subscription/premium content expected soon

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on January 4th, 2011

The Call of Duty game franchise might have some sort of in game charge for premium content or multiplayer subscription services very soon. Possibly in April. One analyst thinks that a monetized second tier of multiplayer online gaming might arrive at about that time.

Wedbush Securities’ January newsletter states that “Activision remains a top pick, primarily due to the company’s potential to create and monetize a second tier of multiplayer online gaming for its Call of Duty franchise. We expect this to occur during the first quarter of 2011″. But the big question is whether enough gamers would be willing to pay for something like this.

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on December 21st, 2010

You’re playing it. I’m playing it. Seems like everyone is playing Black Ops. Call of Duty: Black Ops has now broken the $1 billion sales mark worldwide, in just a month since its launch. Over half of that figure was achieved during its first five days.

It also broke the previous worldwide record of $550 million which was set by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in 2009. If you’ve played the game you know why it is doing so well. It is an awesome gaming experience. We wonder how many more sales records it will shatter.

Call of Duty: Black Ops is taking the gaming world by storm. One of the cool aspects of the game is that you have tools to create and design your own emblems. Some of the emblems that people create are pretty funny.

Since there doesn’t seem to be any central place to find these funny emblems, Daryn St. Pierre has created a Tumblr blog specifically for them at the link below. They range from cute to obscene. Hopefully the catalog will grow. It’s amazing how creative folks can get with the tools provided by the game. Have a look and submit your own funny Emblems.

We recently told you that Activision had sold around 5.6 million copies of Call of Duty: Black Ops on launch day, but the news gets even better. They have released more details, and in the first 5 days since it went on sale, it has made a massive $650 million.

And if you’ve played the game, it’s easy to see why. They did nearly everything right and it is an awesome experience. Call of Duty Black Ops has now made more than Modern Warefare 2 did when it went on sale in the first five days, and it has also broken other records.

Activision sets new First Day Sales record selling 5.6 Million copies of Black Ops

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on November 11th, 2010

According to initial estimates from Activision, it looks like they have a mega-hit on their hands with Call of Duty: Black Ops. Everyone knew it would do well, but sales of the new game are beyond expectations, having sold 5.6 million copies on its first day. That beats last year’s record set by the Modern Warfare 2 launch of 4.6 million copies sold.

It’s the second year in a row that the Call of Duty franchise has set day one launch records. A shame no one is reading this since you are all playing the game.

Call of Duty: Black Ops MadCatz controllers

Posted in Controllers by Conner Flynn on July 14th, 2010

It’s time for the next Call of Duty. Just like last year, Mad Catz is producing a bunch of licensed Black Ops peripherals for the Wii, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC to go along with the game. Above is the 360 controller, which features precision aiming, which is just a lowering of the analog sticks’ sensitivity when you want more precision.

You can toggle it by using the “combat” buttons on the controller’s back. The price should be just under $50 for the console pads and $100 for a Cyborg Rat PC mouse which comes with a 2GB USB dog tag.
