Seagate is thinking about the environment with their latest Barracuda Green hard drive. It’s the industry’s highest performance eco-friendly 3.5-inch desktop drive and it consumes very little juice, making it ideal for low-power personal computers, multi-drive home networking systems and external storage.

The new Barracuda Green will merge the industry’s highest spin speed (5900 RPM) with Seagate’s SmartAlign technology and this results in best-in-class performance. The Barracuda Green hard drive will run quietly, lowering system costs associated with fans and power supply devices that are often required for power-hungry systems. Over 70% of the materials used to build the drive can even be recycled.

Seagate intros low-power Barracuda LP hard drivesSeagate just-announced its Barracuda LP series, which cuts down the power consumption without sacrificing very much in performance. According to Seagate, the drives will use up to 50% less electricity than typical hard drives, while giving you a speed of 5,900 RPM and an average latency of 5.5ms, and a 32MB cache.

We don’t have anything on price yet, but apparently they come in 1TB, 1.5TB, and 2TB sizes (all 3.5-inch).
