Avatar Kinect arrives at Xbox Live Marketplace

Posted in Xbox 360 by Reuben Drake on July 25th, 2011

Xbox 360 users will be glad to hear that the Avatar Kinect is now available as a free download from the Kinect Fun Labs section on Xbox Live Marketplace. This comes two days earlier than expected. If you have the console and a kinect, the app lets you control your avatars over the motion-sensing add-on, including facial expressions and body movements.

You can even produce your own avatar TV shows and chat between friends online. The app includes 24 virtual environments within which up to eight avatars can interact.

Avatar Kinect Xbox feature to be unveiled at CES?

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on January 4th, 2011

We don’t have much info on this one, but an apparent snapshot from Microsoft has surfaced with the name Avatar Kinect displayed on it. While we don’t yet know exactly what that means, you can be pretty sure it translates to you awkwardly moving your body to play something while your avatar does the same.

However, Winrumors is claiming that there will be a separate channel for this arriving in an Xbox Live software update. Sounds plausible enough. Microsoft’s CES keynote is tomorrow, so we should find out pretty quickly.

Avatar is the most pirated movie of 2010

Posted in movies by Conner Flynn on December 23rd, 2010

Avatar was one of the biggest movies of 2010, and as such, it is a prime target for piracy. I’m sure james Cameron isn’t happy about it, but according to Torrent Freak, Avatar is the most pirated movie of 2010, with a total of 16,580,000 illegal downloads just on Bittorrent alone.

The more popular a movie is, the more people want to see it both legally and illegally. There were also large numbers of downloads of the Blu-ray version of Avatar in 2010, with Torrent Freak reporting a total of 200,000 illegal downloads in just 2 days.

Avatar 3D Blu-ray coming in 2011

Posted in 3D by Conner Flynn on March 17th, 2010

Avatar is coming to DVD/Blu-ray as early as next month, but it will be a no-frills 2D release. If you already bought your 3D TV for it, too bad. Avatar will have its first DVD/Blu-ray release on April 22, but you won’t find a single bonus feature anywhere. None of the stuff you love, like trailers, making-of featurettes, or commentary

Sources at Fox are saying that this is because they want all available storage space to be used for the best picture and sound possible. If you want all of the extra stuff, there’s a Special Edition coming in November, possibly with two discs.

Xbox 360 dashboard update in November

Xbox 360 dashboard update in NovemberMicrosoft has confirmed that the Fall Xbox 360 Dashboard Update will be arriving in November. I guess that’s still fall, but it’s pushing the limit. Previous updates have also been released in November so it’s not that unusual, and all the new features might have caused it to be delayed even more, so consider it a good thing that they have announced a date. In the meantime those sick of waiting for their avatars always have the Wii.
