Posted in AT&T by Conner Flynn on August 5th, 2010

Apparently the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 will be hitting U.S shores soon as AT&T is gearing up to launch the Android 1.6 device. According to AT&T’s system, the X10 will cost phone retailers $345 per device though it’s unclear what the unsubsidized and subsidized prices will be.

The launch date is said to be between mid-August and mid-July. Also launching in the same timeframe will be the Samsung Eternity II. So, call Doc Brown and get ready to travel back in time with Android 1.6.

US in top 6 for data plan costs on iPad

Posted in iPad by Shane McGlaun on August 3rd, 2010

I think that we all know AT&T and the other major carriers in the US charge us way more money than they really need to. They can cry about how much data smartphone users consume all day, but the fact is we pay much more for the data we use than other countries.

Wired put together a nice little chart comparing the price of downloading a gigabyte of data around the world. The US came in at number six on the list with a price of $12.50 per gigabyte. The most expensive place was France with a cost of $25.47 per gigabyte.

iPhone exclusive deal lawsuit granted class action status

Posted in Apple by Shane McGlaun on July 12th, 2010

There have been a number of lawsuits filed against Apple in the years since the iPhone debuted. Many of the suits were for alleged patent infringement. One of the early suits was against Apple and AT&T over the exclusive deal for the iPhone.

The suit was recently granted class action status, which means anyone who purchased an iPhone all the way back to June 29, 2007 is part of the suit. The core allegation is that consumers who entered into the 2-year agreement were actually in a five-year agreement due to the exclusive deal with AT&T.

Samsung Captivate headed to AT&T on July 18 for $200

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on July 8th, 2010

It’s official, the Captivate, AT&T’s version of Samsung’s global Galaxy S line of high-end Android phones, will be available on Sunday, July 18 for $199 on contract with no rebate needed. That pricing is no surprise, since T-Mobile priced the Vibrant the same way.

All four US nationals are getting this device very soon and that’s pretty impressive for Samsung. Will you be getting one? Let us know why or why not.

ZAGG invisibleSHIELD Dry for iPhone 4 Exclusive to AT&T Stores

ZAGG has been making invisibleSHIELD protective films for all manner of gadgets for many years now. I have used the film on all of my iPhones and other stuff and have never had issues with scratches. ZAGG has announced that the new invisibleSHIELD Dry film is now available exclusively through AT&T Stores.

The normal version of the invisibleSHIELD film requires you to spray the surface with a liquid for install. The new Dry version skips that liquid step. The film is available for the iPhone 4 in the dry version.

Dell offering HTC Aria for free

Posted in Dell by Conner Flynn on June 21st, 2010

Want to get the HTC Aria for free? Of course you do. Luckily for you, Dell is offering the HTC Aria for free, instead of having to get it for $129.99 from AT&T. Gotta be a catch right? Of course there is. You and I weren’t born yesterday, if we had been we would be sucking our thumbs and getting our arses powdered.

This deal is available only for those who want to open a new AT&T account, making it a lot less attractive than free. Existing AT&T subscribers whose plans are up and are looking for Android will need $129.99 after all.

Samsung Captivate

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on June 17th, 2010

Looks like ATT is finally getting serious about Android, with the Samsung Captivate, which will arrive in the next few months. The specs are impressive with a 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen, a 1GHz Hummingbird that processes graphics3x faster than Snapdragon, a 5MP camera that can record 720p video, and up to 32GB of combined onboard and external storage.

It will ship with Google Search which is nice. We aren’t sure if Captivate owners will be able to download third-party apps, since AT&T so far hasn’t allowed this on their Android devices.

AT&T stops iPhone 4 Pre-Ordering after system collapse

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on June 16th, 2010

AT&T can’t deal with iPhone 4 orders. After shutting down their online sales system following several security problems, they are giving up in order to avoid any further trouble. Seems like their computer systems are in real trouble thanks to the demand surge.

This comes after only one day of pre-orders. The demand collapsed both AT&T and Apple servers, which were unable to take orders, were taking multiple incorrect orders, placed reservations that didn’t reserve anything, and had physical stores closing or having to take orders with pen and paper. The problems also involved a security breach, with people trying to get into AT&T only to get into the wrong customers account.

AT&T unveils Android Aria smartphone

Posted in AT&T by Shane McGlaun on June 14th, 2010

AT&T has not traditionally offered a bunch of Android devices. This is no surprise given that Android is one of the biggest competitors to the iPhone. Which AT&T sells a massive amount of.

AT&T has added a new entry-level Android device to its offerings today called the AT&T Aria. The Aria smartphone is an Android 2.1 device with HTC Sense UI over the top. The handset has a 3.2-inch HVGA display and operates on the AT&T 3G network with 7.2Mbps speed.

AT&T says sorry for threatening customer with legal action for pair of emails to CEO

Posted in AT&T by Shane McGlaun on June 4th, 2010

I think anyone who has read about AT&T and its ways of dealing with complaints or is an AT&T customer probably understands that the company appears to be run by a bunch of asshats. This was made abundantly clear this week when word that AT&T had threatened a customer who emailed the CEO twice over a few week period with a cease and desist letter if he emailed again.

The guy took his story the internet where it grew to epic proportions in a poo storm the likes of which hasn’t been seen in at least a few weeks. AT&T has now said sorry to the customer for threatening him and had a senior AT&T VP call and talk to the customer personally.

Dell Streak Tablet hits the US in late Summer with AT&T

Posted in Dell by Conner Flynn on May 14th, 2010

Also known as the Mini 5, the Streak will be launching first in Europe with O2 Telefonica, and then “later this summer” with AT&T in the States, according to CEO Michael Dell. NOT on a Baseball field, wearing nothing but a cap.

Dell showed the device off at the Citrix Synergy conference. We know that it runs Android, but they won’t say which version it will actually be. Screen-size is a 5-inch capacitive display, and there’s also be a 5-megapixel camera.
