Asus delays Eee Keyboard again, adds capacitive touchscreen

Posted in Keyboards by Conner Flynn on November 5th, 2009

Asus delays Eee Keyboard again, adds capacitive touchscreenAsus must be toying with us, but we don’t think it’s very funny. We’ve all been drooling over their entertainment-PC-in-a-keyboard with wireless HDMI for months. But where is it? They said we would see it in October, but now it’s delayed until early next year. What the holy f’ing hell? At least they’re making the 5-inch touchscreen a capacitive panel now.

Apparently the Wi-Fi/Ultra Wide Band aerial has been made into an external dongle, because the keyboard’s metallic body reduced the signal. A planned non-metallic version will still integrate the wireless receiver.

ASUS WiFi, 3G and WiMAX ebook readers confirmed for March 2010We had heard that Asus was planning some ebook readers and now some new details have emerged. Executives from the company apparently confirmed that WiFi, 3G and WiMAX versions will be announced before the year is out. The ebook readers will apparently hit carrier partners in the US and Europe in March 2010, with prices that will be “competitive” with what’s offered from Amazon and Sony.

Previous rumors have ASUS readying two different sized readers, one with a 6-inch e-ink display while a second model will have a larger 9-inch panel. WiMax seems like overkill, but Asus apparently thinks it will sell well.

It connects using 3G or Wifi, comes with a memory card slot and supports Skype audio/video conferencing. The price is a really nice $165. Look out Kindle! That’s about all the info we have right now, but we like what we see.

ASUS outs USB 2.0 Blu-ray drive

Posted in ASUS by Conner Flynn on June 29th, 2009

ASUS outs USB 2.0 Blu-ray driveASUS has taken a fairly basic USB Blu-ray drive and given it a high-gloss makeover. The SBC-04B1S-U isn’t gonna wow you with 4.8x maximum Blu-ray disc reading, 8x DVD burning, a USB 2.0 connection, and Windows compatibility.

The bright blue ‘X’ on the unit flashes and has a dedicated app to control brightness. My main concern with this X is that it might attract government agents looking to give Fox Mulder some deepthroat-like info.
