Amazon opens Kindle self-publishing program globally

Posted in Amazon by Shane McGlaun on January 18th, 2010

The Amazon Kindle is one of the most popular eReaders on the market today. One of the reasons it is so popular is that it has a great digital bookstore backing it. Amazon announced today that it is expanding its self-publishing platform to other other countries.

The Kindle Digital Text program prior to this announcement was only open to those in the US. Now users around the world can submit text written in English, German, and French.

Amazon sold more Kindle books than physical books this Christmas

Posted in kindle by Conner Flynn on December 27th, 2009

Amazon’s Kindle broke an important record on Xmas. On Christmas, the company sold more Kindle books than physical books. Yes, they did have a huge push for the holiday. Many people got a Kindle for Christmas and ordered a bunch of eBooks. But it’s still impressive.

The question is can they maintain this momentum? Were it not for a huge banner on their front page for the last week, begging you to buy the Kindle in time for Christmas, sales would not have been so sweet. So we aren’t sure that they can maintain strong sales, but who knows.

Amazon Kindle ships free in time for Christmas

Posted in Amazon by Shane McGlaun on December 18th, 2009

kindledx-sbI think the new lot of eReaders are very cool. I would like to have a Barnes & Noble Nook myself, but alas, the things are sold out. If you have someone on your Christmas list that wants an eReader the Amazon Kindle is the only major choice this year.

Amazon announced today that it is offering free expedited shipping on the Kindle that will get it to you in two days. That means if you order by December 22 you will get the Kindle in time for Christmas. The price is still $259.

Amazon Kindle breaks sales records in November

Posted in Amazon by Shane McGlaun on November 30th, 2009

kindledx-sbI don’t get why companies are so hesitant to tell how much of a certain product they are selling. Apple tells us how many iPhones it sells if for no other reason than to make other smartphone makers feel inferior.

Amazon has by most accounts the most successful eReader available, but the company will not tell us how many of the devices it sells. Amazon did come out today and announced that the Kindle has broken its single month sales record in November.

iRiver Story now on AmazonOne day eBook readers may look different, but for now they all tend to look the same, with white bodies and a keyboard. Looks aside, they aren’t all created equal. Take the iRiver Story, now available on Amazon for £230 ($380).

Sure that’s a bit pricey, but competition will continue to sort things out. IRiver is hoping that you prefer this one over the Kindle or a Barnes & Noble Nook. Do you? Let us know your deepest darkest ebook thoughts.

Early Amazon Black Friday Wii bundle deal with $50 Gift Card

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on November 16th, 2009

Early Amazon Black Friday Wii bundle deal with $50 Gift CardThe Wii has had it’s time in the sun, but lately it seems to have lost some traction and given way to it’s higher resolution competitors. Lately I’ve been seeing all kinds of Wii deals. Even businesses giving them away as promotions.

Well, Amazon has a great deal if you haven’t bought a Wii yet. When you buy the Nintendo Wii console along with a Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board you get a free $50 Gift Card. Normally the Wii sells for $199.99 and the Wii Fit Plus with Balance board sells for only $89.99. The overall cost is $289.98. But subtract the $50 gift card value and you get this Wii bundle for $239.98 on Amazon.

Amazon cancels US-only Kindle

Posted in kindle by Conner Flynn on October 22nd, 2009

kindledx-sb1We knew that the Nook would shake up the e-reader market, but it looks like it is having a major effect very quickly. Amazon will be canceling the US-only Kindle by consolidating their family of 6″ Kindles, lowering the price to $259 from $279.

On top of that, in some countries limited web surfing has been unlocked on the device so that they can take full advantage of the Kindle. The competition is heating up.

Kindle app for PC

Posted in kindle by Conner Flynn on October 22nd, 2009

Kindle app for PCAmazon is preparing to launch its Kindle application for Windows PCs. The app will let you download and read content that was previously available for the Kindle. There’s also an iPhone app already available. You don’t need a Kindle to use the Kindle app for Windows, but you will need to create an account.

The thinking is that Windows 7′s new touch features might make it a good reading platform, plus it gets the content into more hands. Don’t worry Mac users, yours is coming soon. Maybe on a Mac Tablet.

Archos 5 Internet Tablet pulled by Amazon for problemsThe Archos 5 Internet Tablet has been available for just a couple of days, but now Amazon has stopped all orders for the 160GB hard drive-based Archos 5 device, placing the item “under review.”

Amazon says that “customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item”. This is not good news for Archos. However, the 32GB flash-based version is still available for pre-order. Hopefully the issues, whatever they are, can be fixed quickly.
