Activetrax AM/FM radio, MP3 speaker

Posted in MP3 by Conner Flynn on May 6th, 2009

Activetrax AM/FM radio, MP3 speakerWe’re always on the lookout for MP3 speakers, so we had a chance to check out this one from Seattle Sports Co. “Activetrax On the go audio”. It’s designed for camping situations and features AM/FM, weatherband and also serves as an MP3 speaker. It comes with it’s own protective case and can operate by either solar or crank power. So it would seem to be ideal for camping.

As an MP3 speaker, it does the job, but don’t expect high quality sound. It gets pretty loud, but as with most of these type of speakers, the louder you crank it, the more sound problems you have.

Onkyo intros two new iPod speaker systemsOnkyo has released two new cool looking iPod speaker systems. The X-T2CR sports a CD player and the X-T2 plays MDs. Both have built-in iPod docks that are compatible with any generation iPod.

Both also feature AM and FM tuners, and A-OMF Cone and 8cm driver units for the speakers. They’re a little more stylish than your average iPod speaker deck, and actually look pretty nice. ipod docks are a dime a dozen and we like to see some that look good occasionally.

08 Radio concept is a slider

08 Radio concept is a slider
I don’t mean slider in the traditional sense. What I mean is that someone slid right off their rocker, or off the sober wagon or…something. No, this isn’t the top part to that scale that your doctor has in his office. It’s a radio with an interesting slide function, as in you slide the damn radio around to tune in the channel you want, instead of using a dial.

It may be a nice decoration, but I wouldn’t want to use it. At least this thing is cute. Hell, maybe I should invent a real long rail and slide my laptop up and down the thing to tune in websites. That would be swell and I wasn’t using all this living space anyway.

Radio City Valve Radio

Radio City Valve Radio
The problem with the Radio City Valve Radio, aside from the fact that it doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, is that they just kinda slapped a bunch of stuff together and then went so far as to have a plaque on the front that says “Radio City”. Yeah, we’re going to Radio city. Not.

I’m pretty sure the glass or plastic tubes do nothing except emit that faint light you see. And am I seeing this right? It looks like they just went crazy and threw a heatsink behind them for pure kicks. Only our friends in China could show such a lack of style. I mean, the whole deal just looks unfinished and very toy-like.

Stitch CD Player is creepy, plays CDs

Stitch CD Player is creepy, plays CDs
I admit, I’m not much of a Disney fan. Even if I were, I think that having this thing on my desk would creep me out. Runat Japan just announced this CD player based on Stitch from Disney’s popular series ‘Lilo and Stitch’. Stitch’s mouth opens wide revealing the CD tray, the ears double as speakers and the teeth are the controls.

It’s got an AM/FM tuner and the onboard speakers have an output of 0.6W×2ch. Here’s a great design move: It runs on 3 D batteries, which will give you a whole hour of play. The player is a Japan only and will cost you $92.

Homer Simpson floating radio complete with Duff

Homer Simpson floating radio
It’s not quite summer yet, but if you have your pool ready to go, this floating Homer Simpson radio will let you listen to your favorite AM or FM radio station while you take it easy. Like you, Homer floats on his back with a can of Duff parked on his gut and not a care in the cartoon world.

The Duff can is used to tune the radio and adjust the volume. Apparently, he’s waterproof and requires a set of AAA batteries to run. He will cost you $40.

Sony CFD-W77 double tape deck

Sony CFD-W77 double tape deck
That’s right, it’s 2008 and Sony is releasing a tape deck. Wtf you say? Me too. I’m not sure what they are thinking here, but I’m betting an 8-Track deck is around the corner. This dual tape recorder has a nice modern look, at least. It also features a CD player and a FM/AM Radio Tuner. It comes in two shades of gray and is available only in Japan for around $145.

There must be a surplus of tapes in Japan that I had not heard of. Either that or they just collectively discovered the magic of the garage sale cassette. Seriously, alot of people still use tapes. Mostly because they are cheap. The tapes, not the people. OK, them too. Still, I would be curious to find out how many of these units Sony is able to move.
