WiiThink brain scanner makes no sense

The Wii has more peripherals than you can shake a wiimote at. Well, here’s another concept for the Wii. The WiiThink. Not well thought out. In fact it makes no sense.

The WiiThink is supposed to be an EEG sensor that monitors brain waves. The idea is to get the elderly to think really hard and concentrate so their brains exercise and they hopefully won’t get Alzheimer’s. Sounds like a fun little scam. But there is no evidence that concentrating prevents Alzheimer’s.

Cellphones may protect the brain from Alzheimer’s

We’ve all heard that cellphone radiation can be bad for you, even if it does remain unproven. But a new study in mice suggests that using cellphones may help prevent some of the brain-wasting effects of Alzheimer’s disease.

After long-term exposure to electromagnetic waves like those in cell phones, mice that were genetically altered to develop Alzheimer’s performed as well on memory and thinking skill tests as healthy mice. So I guess cellphones could be good for us and bad at the same time.

GPS Shoes keep track of Alzheimer’s Patients

GPS Shoes keep track of Alzheimer’s PatientsAnyone who has ever had an older family member in their lives who has Alzheimers, knows how difficult it can be just to keep tabs on them. It’s sort of like having a small child. They tend to live in their own world and can wander off the instant you divert your attention.

Rather than having to keep searching for lost Alzheimer’s patients, Aetrex Worldwide and GTS Corp have teamed up to put GPS transmitters inside shoes. A simple and brilliant solution. A wristband might be even better as some won’t bother to put on their shoes.
