Acer Aspire One D255 to ship with dual core Atom chip

Posted in Acer by Conner Flynn on July 6th, 2010

The Acer Aspire One D255 comes with a dual core Intel Atom processor: the Atom N550 netbook chip, each core running at 1.5GHz with 512KB of L2 cache. The N550 will support hyperthreading, so that Windows will report that you have four CPUs under the hood.

That should give you a good performance boost when doing processor-heavy tasks or multitasking. We can’t wait to see how this netbook performs with this processor.

Acer Aspire One 532G gets cancelled

Posted in Acer by Conner Flynn on June 19th, 2010

Bad news if you have been waiting for the Acer Aspire One 532G netbook. It has been cancelled due to technical problems which made it impossible for Acer to deliver the netbook on time. NVIDIA failed to deliver on the performance front.

Right now we don’t have any other details, but it seems strange that they wouldn’t just push back the date. And a 10″ netbook is a common device that other companies roll out easily.

SNES PC modThis casemod combines the shell of an old SNES console with the brains and guts of a modern PC. Anytime we see a CD sticking out of an SNES cartridge, we can’t help but smile. Modders quangDX and DuPPs took an old Super Nintendo and merged it with an Acer Aspire One A150 laptop. They call their new creation the aaSNES1.

And yes, they managed to mount a slot-loading DVDRW drive inside of the Super Mario World cartridge! But it wasn’t that simple. They didn’t have enough room inside the UK model SNES cartridge, but managed to cut things apart enough to get the drive to work. The eject button even ejects the DVD.
