With all the 3D TVs that turned up at CES this year we knew that 3D was going to be big in 2010. The 3D sets are now starting to land at retailers for those so included to purchase. 3D content for TV is also starting to come as well.

Cox has announced that it will be broadcasting the Masters golf tournament in 3D for two hours each day for the duration of the tournament. The cable network will also show a highlight show each day in 3D.

3D continues to hit Japan in a big way. The 3DTV from Sony has now made it to Japan beating both Panasonic and Samsung. The edge-lit LED LX900 comes with the IR emitter built-in and two pairs of RealD active shutter glasses. The glasses are also available separately.

There’s even a face tracking feature that lets you know if you’re sitting too close. Gee, thanks. Are you my TV or my mom? Also, if you leave the room the TV dims out and goes off, which is nice.

panasonic-3d-plasma-540x404There have been more 3D films hit the theater this summer than I can ever remember seeing before. It wasn’t only animated films in 3D either; there were some live action films. I for one am glad to see 3D going so much more mainstream and I can’t wait to get 3D content in my living room. According to a new report from GigaOM Pro, 3DTV shipments are set to boom over the next few years.

The research firm estimates that between now and 2013 there will be 46 million 3DTVs shipped. Big supporters of the 3DTV format will include Sony and Panasonic who will both look to 3DTV to boost slowing sales.
