Batman Arkham City announced for 2011

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on August 5th, 2010

At last Batman fans, the sequel to the popular Batman Arkham Asylum has just been announced and it will be called Batman Arkham City. It will be available for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC in the fall of 2011. The game is being developed by Rocksteady Studios, Warner Bros Interactive and DC entertainment, and it will be set in Gotham’s new maximum security prison.

With the new Arkham in the city it should make for some interesting game scenarios, allowing even more characters to show up, so that you can bring them down.

Analyst says no iPhone for Verizon this year

Posted in Verizon by Conner Flynn on May 6th, 2010

If you are a Verizon user and have been waiting for the new iPhone 4 this year, we have some bad news. According to BroadPoint AmTech analyst Brian Marshall, AT&T has extended its exclusive deal thanks to their bargaining with the iPad.

Basically AT&T had to do something dramatic to get in on the iPad action. They negotiated a 50% discount on iPad data plans with Apple. And so, AT&T was able to negotiate a six-month extension on the iPhone exclusive, where they will continue to provide dropped calls and horrible service.

BlackBerry tablet to arrive in 2011?

Posted in Tablet PC by Conner Flynn on May 3rd, 2010

Take this with the usual grain of salt, but word is that RIM is working on a tablet device, codenamed the BlackPad or Cobalt. Apparently the device will feature an 8.9-inch display and might even be thinner and smaller than Apple’s iPad.

If such a device is even coming out of RIM, it would be unveiled in 2011, with a 3G connection, Wi-Fi, and might even sync with a BlackBerry smartphone. Now this is mighty interesting. If they play their cards right, this could really compete with Apple.

Low energy Bluetooth 4.0 by 2011

Posted in Bluetooth by Conner Flynn on April 25th, 2010

Bluetooth 4.0 will arrive by early 2011 thanks to the Bluetooth Special Interest Group. It will target products that consume lower energy which would benefit more from a power-saving protocol than a high-speed protocol. It will feature a powerful low energy mode designed to enable expansion of the technology in m-health, sports and fitness, security and home entertainment where button-cell battery devices are plentiful.

BT 4.0 products should ship in late 2010 or early 2011, and things like Bluetooth watches will really benefit from this.

Avatar 3D Blu-ray coming in 2011

Posted in 3D by Conner Flynn on March 17th, 2010

Avatar is coming to DVD/Blu-ray as early as next month, but it will be a no-frills 2D release. If you already bought your 3D TV for it, too bad. Avatar will have its first DVD/Blu-ray release on April 22, but you won’t find a single bonus feature anywhere. None of the stuff you love, like trailers, making-of featurettes, or commentary

Sources at Fox are saying that this is because they want all available storage space to be used for the best picture and sound possible. If you want all of the extra stuff, there’s a Special Edition coming in November, possibly with two discs.

Wii HD with new controller in 2011?

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on September 21st, 2009

Wii HD with new controller in 2011?The Wii has some good titles, but I can’t say that it has many great titles. And playing in 480p has been disappointing. And where have the good games been lately? It makes sense to wonder if the big N has a console refresh coming soon.

Yoichi Wada, president of Square Enix seems to think that there’s a new Wii coming. He also predicts that Microsoft and Sony’s motion efforts won’t be “truly successful.”

According to Wada, the next-generation HD Wii will have the same capabilities as the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and this new Wii will also add a new motion controller. Sadly we have to wait until 2011, like previous rumors have stated.

iRex to develop color eBook reader by 2011

iRex to develop color eBook reader by 2011E-reader maker iRex promises to deliver a high-tech color, writable ebook reader by 2011. They claim that this device would have a brightness level three times that of the existing additive color electrophoretic displays, thanks to a system of subtractive color mixing.

Subtractive e-ink technology is compared to physical printing whereby colors act as filters to absorb portions of white light striking them and reflect back the desired hue. The additive system mixes together backlit or illuminated colors to create hues, often requiring filters that can reduce overall quality.

2011: A Wii HD Odyssey?

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on October 1st, 2008

2011: A Wii HD Odyssey?Cue 2001 theme, but think “2011: The Year Wii Makes Contact”. 2011 is three years from now. So you would expect a new Wii by then right? HD would be nice on a new console. Word is that they are showing off a Wii-HD to developers and publishers, who’ve nicknamed it “Wii HD”. Reportedly, the followup will stick with all of the motion control goodness and amp up graphics, digital distribution, local storage and even be backwards compatible.

The only hard evidence was cited by What They Play, and that is the fact that Nintendo’s R&D spending has grown greatly since the Wii’s launch. I don’t see that that makes the case for a new Wii by itself, but it’s not a stretch as they are surely looking toward the future of the Wii. Many of us would like to see some improvements now rather then later. Like storage for instance.
