Picasa and Blogger to be renamed

Posted in Google by Reuben Drake on July 5th, 2011

Looks like Google is taking this social networking thing seriously. The company is reportedly trying to put all of its products under one brand. According to Mashable, Picasa and Blogger may become something like ‘Google Photos’ and ‘Google Blogs.’

Blogger will get a UI overhaul, but otherwise, both services should function exactly the same as they do now. The move may take place within the next six weeks and unify Google’s offerings. Youtube is safe however.

LulzSec says new anti-Sony hack campaign starts within a day

Posted in Sony by Conner Flynn on May 29th, 2011

Hacking collective Lulz Security says that it is about to launch a new campaign against Sony. The timeframe is “within the next day.” This follows attacks on Sony Music Japan and elsewhere. Of course, the group didn’t name its specific targets other than some Sony websites.

It doesn’t look like Lulz is responsible for the PSN hack that took down the network for three weeks. So why all the hate against Sony? Well, many don’t like it’s approach to trying to fight PS3 jailbreaking, including getting data on anyone who had even so much as visited hacker George Hotz’ website or commented on his YouTube videos.

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on May 22nd, 2011

That’s right iPad games for your feline friends. Forget shaking some string or a stick at them. Now they just want iPad games. Just like you. Check out the new line of Friskies iPad 2 games that allow cats to use their paws and interact .

We are talking three new games made just for cats. The colors, movement, and game-play have been researched and tested for maximum feline fun and cat action. It amounts to a bunch of shiny things moving around on screen that your cat can paw at.

So this is where bad SNES games go to die

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on May 22nd, 2011

If a game stinks, or games in this case, why not take a wizz on it/them. That must be the thinking behind this unique urinal. As a gamer I couldn’t agree more. And we should save the really horrible games for dropping a deuce on.

Anyway, if you want to make one of these for yourself it isn’t as easy as it looks. You will need sealant, a bunch of gaming cartridges, and a valve just to name a few items. Oh and a strong desire to spray instead of play these games.

Is this an early look at the Wii 2?

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on May 19th, 2011

Alright Nintendo fans. Sit down. Relax. Grab a Mario stuffed animal or something. This is bound to excite you. We have some potential news for you about the upcoming Wii 2. This is supposedly a video shot by a sneaky developer that gives us a rough look at what we can expect from the console.

We will know for sure what the Wii 2 is all about in a few weeks at E3, but for now hit the video. The controller looks like they slapped a screen on a GameCube controller. The console looks pretty typical of what you would expect. Something that looks like a docking station for the controller can be seen at the end. It all seems pretty legit. What do you think?

YouTube to add 3,000 streaming movies to rent

Posted in YouTube by Conner Flynn on May 9th, 2011

Good news movie lovers. YouTube has confirmed that starting today it will add rughly 3,000 new movie titles for rental in the US, as well as reviews and behind the scenes extras. NBC Universal, Sony Pictures and Warner Bros. are the new studios that YouTube is partnering with to add these new and catalog releases. It will double the amount previously available.

Pricing is $2.99 and $3.99 for movies viewed via your PC or Google TV. There was no mention of other devices supported. And though YouTube supports resolutions up to 4K, “most” of the new additions are in SD, which is kinda sad. Still, at least you have more choice than you did before.

The video above shows off the the MacBook Pro G-Form Extreme Sleeve for Laptops, which is available in 11, 13 and 15-inch versions. This is one serious Laptop sleeve that will help your device survive some extreme abuse.

How extreme? How about dropping a 13-inch notebook off a balcony, from a very tall height? The computer survives just fine thanks to Poron Xrd, the name of the custom material used inside the sleeve’s outer shell that absorbs the force on impact. The MacBook Pro G-Form Extreme Sleeve for Laptops is available in black and yellow should you want to test it yourself. It will cost you $69.95 for the 11-inch model or ten bucks more for both 13- and 15-inch models.

Google Video Shutdown Stopped For Now

Posted in Google by Conner Flynn on April 25th, 2011

Google had decided to pull the plug on Google Video, but now it seems that the company has had a change of heart and has put that plan on hold. They are telling users that they are looking for “an easier way” to migrate all of those videos to YouTube.

Originally, Google gave users a choice between downloading these videos or Uploading them to YouTube before it erased them for good, but now they plan to automatically transfer content to YouTube themselves. Seems like that should have been the way to go from the start. Well at least you can rest easy as your videos should live to see another day.

HTC may be working on 16-megapixel Windows Phone 7 device

Posted in HTC by Conner Flynn on April 18th, 2011

A new video ad has emerged that reveals that HTC is reportedly planning on releasing a Windows Phone 7 smartphone with a 16-megapixel camera, which would be a first for the industry. HTC’s most advanced smartphones currently have only eight-megapixel cameras. The phone in the video looks like the Desire S, though that phone uses Android and is probably just a temporary stand in for now.

We don’t have any other specs for this unnamed WP7 phone, but the video shows dual LED flashes. We will just have to wait and see what else emerges.

Google Video shutting down

Posted in Google by Conner Flynn on April 17th, 2011

I’m not sure who would have videos stored at Google’s Video service at this point, but if you do, you better get over there and get them quick. This weekend, Google sent a notice to users that it was shutting down the hosting service. They had already stopped taking uploads two years ago.

Google suggests that you migrate your material to YouTube, which is Google owned of course and doing quite well for itself in case you haven’t heard. Google Video began in 2005, the year before Google bought YouTube and now it is time to clean house.

YouTube to offer ‘premium’ channels

Posted in YouTube by Conner Flynn on April 6th, 2011

Looks like YouTube will be turning to original content to make content for Google TV and to lure viewers in. The Google video site will launch about 20 “premium” channels with about five to ten hours of unique content every week. According to the WSJ, YouTube is willing to spend as much as $100 million to get this content.

It’s a safe bet that some channels may be curations of plain old Youtube content, but most will be professional content with top actors. It will be interesting to see how they do this and what kind of content they can get.
