Ben Heck, the man behind thousands of awesome mods is back. This time it’s an old school 1977 Atari merged with the Xbox 360 in a laptop kind of deal. This custom mod looks just like Atari would have made the device had they been capable.

It will handle all of the newest games and the old, including Yar’s Revenge and Star Raiders. In his latest show, he takes viewers through the entire build process. The final build is a thing of geek beauty. He has done it yet again.

Iron Man Xbox 360 on Ebay

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on August 23rd, 2010

We’ve seen plenty of painted and modded Xbox 360s in our day, even an Xbox 360 laptop, but until now we’ve never seen what Tony Stark’s Xbox 360 looks like.

And thanks to Zachariah Perry Cruse, we now know. It looks just like his armor. The design student spent his summer vacation creating his very own Iron Man Xbox 360. It’s not the slim 360 console, but it has a 120GB hard drive and an HDMI socket. Why not place a bid?

When it comes to high school graduation, most grads don’t want the sort of things that you would get on the average birthday. They want big-ticket items like computers, cars, and game consoles. Best Buy has a new bundle that gives the grad exactly what they want and saves the parent money.

The bundle includes an Xbox 360 Arcade game console and a notebook computer. The Xbox 360 Arcade is the same old console we already know about. There are two notebook options with the same hardware.

Now this is no Ben Heck masterpiece, but modder TheTwoJ’s Xbox 360 laptop is still pretty sweet. And if you want to get your hands on it, you can bid for it on eBay for a starting price of $1,950.

That’s less than it cost the modder to make. He spent over $2,000 and 650 hours making the X-top and it has been as it’s been tested for problems for the last three months. It’s made from an Xbox Elite Jasper system, with a 120GB hard drive and 17-inch Gateway monitor. Xbox 360 laptop sports retro style

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on December 27th, 2009

Xbox 360 laptop? Normally when you hear about such a thing you think Ben Heck. Amazingly enough, this is the work of someone else. It is the creation of CollinE from Ben’s forums.

We love the red and black color scheme and the giant X on the top lid. This 360 stays true to the original console in most respects, even the “wind tunnel” noise generated by Collin’s five fans. If you want to try your hand at this, a video tour of the hardware is available.

Ben Heck's PS3 Slim laptopOur favorite modder Ben Heck is at it again. The man never stops. I swear, he isn’t human. He just keeps churning out masterpieces. This time, it’s a sleek pin-striped laptop based on the new PS3 Slim that looks retro. Just like his Xbox 360 laptop, this one has a 17-inch Gateway 1775W screen at 1280 x 720 resolution.

Some other features include a storage space for the power cord, Blu-ray drive, and even an Iron Man Arc reactor-inspired fan grill. It could have been even smaller, but he wanted the 17-inch display.

Hands on: Logitech Speaker System Z323

Posted in Review by Conner Flynn on September 21st, 2009

Hands on: Logitech Speaker System Z323Good speaker systems are hard to find. Especially if you want a small form, with big sound. And bass is usually disappointing in these small systems. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been disappointed with speakers that don’t deliver. So I decided to give Logitech’s Z323 a try.

These speakers are acoustically engineered to project audio evenly in all directions, not just one. The idea is that you hear the full range of sound throughout a room. Another interesting feature is the down-firing woofer designed to deliver rich, deep bass. The two satellite speakers claim to produce warm mid-range tones and crisp high notes. You can plug in your Logitech Squeezebox, gaming console, iPod or DVD player. So what did we think of the Z323? Read on.

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on July 5th, 2009

Ben Heck's latest portable Xbox 360After five versions, Ben Heck’s portable Xbox 360 mods are still awesome. He just keeps getting better and better. This latest version looks like a Mac product when closed, and features a 17-inch Gateway LCD panel. Some improvements on this one include a Jasper motherboard, a flush-mount DVD door and side panels, digital potentiometer / button volume controls, and an ethernet port in addition to WiFi.

He ditched the camera, but there’s still two USB ports. It’s the only white-colored Xbox 360 laptop he’s built since the original. The man continues to be the Leonardo DaVinci of gaming consoles.

Sony has a heart

Posted in Sony by Conner Flynn on April 1st, 2009

If you see this thing suddenly appear in your living room, it might be a good idea to run. It wants to assimilate all of your Sony products. This nightmare-inspired mechanical heart is starring in a new series of Sony ads that will air during England’s World Cup qualifying campaign on ITV.

It’s built by special effects house Artem and consists of all kinds of Sony gear, with parts from BRAVIA TVs, Blu-ray players, VAIO laptops, Cybershot cameras, PS3s etc. Once it has absorbed enough Sony items, it will use it’s new powers to lower the price of the PS3 and lay the smack down on some Xbox 360 fanboys.

Dark Knight Xbox 360 on eBay, will cost you
This rare Dark Knight Xbox 360 was spotted at the Microsoft game exhibition in Taiwan. Every self respecting nerd and his comic book dealer want to get their hands on it, but that just isn’t going to happen. Turns out there were only 110 made and it looks like the only way to get one is on ebay, where they seem to be going for $800 and up. It only comes with a 20GB hard drive and the same accessories as the $300 bundle. You better go find a money tree and shake it real hard. There’s always this thing.

Portable Gaming Solutions will mod your Xbox 360 into a laptop
Let’s say you’re in love with Halo, but always on the go. There’s gotta be some way to get your game on. If only you had a convenient Xbox laptop. Ben Heck is probably to busy to make you one, but you may be in luck. For $550, a shop in Kansas called Portable Gaming Solutions says that they will convert your 360 into a suitcase-sized 15-inch laptop with keyboard and speakers.

It might be taking a chance sending your Xbox to him, but hey we all have to start somewhere. The web site has some images and videos of the mod, so it’s probably cool. We hope. Would anyone take the chance and send their console? I don’t know, but I wish him luck. It may not be the most stylish mod, but I guess it gets the job done. Check out the video below.

Planex DigiJuke NAS: YouTube and BitTorrent for the Wii, Xbox 360
The studios won’t like this device one bit. The MZK-NAS02SG1T network attached storage device from Planex. The $524 1TB Gigabit Ethernet block claims “universal access” for all your devices, courtesy of its DigiJuke browser, searching and tagging BitTorrent and YouTube content you want downloaded in the appropriate PSP and iPod (MPEG-4), Wii (FLV), or TV (MPEG-2) format for in-home or portable viewing.

The NAS will also stream audio and video to your iTunes laptops or desktops, DLNA TV, Xbox 360, or other compliant device in the home. A USB 2.0 jack offers one-touch dubbing of USB sticks while a second around back offers storage expansion. It ships with a pair of 3.5-inch 500GB drives, which you may want to swap out for higher capacity drives at a later date.

Xbox 360 Elite laptop is a masterpiece of mod

Xbox 360 Elite laptop
If you don’t know Ben Heckendorn, the man will modify any game console. Nothing is safe from his artist’s hands, whether he’s making an old Atari 2600 into a portable unit or making an XBox 360 Elite laptop. Basically, the man is a modding God.

Now, he’s turned an Xbox 360 Elite into a laptop, a portable gaming system that can be taken anywhere. The screen has a resolution of 1280×720 which allows for 720p HD viewing, and it has an Xbox camera built in. I’d love to own one, but it’s a custom creation. You won’t be able to buy it anywhere anytime soon. Unless of course you were to commission one.
